DIVISION OF CAVITE PROVINCE
BULIHAN INTEGRATED NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
Problem Statement:
Pagbasa sa Agham Program aims to improve students’ literacy on Science terms and
comprehension. Also, it is designed to motivate the students to read and enhance their science
comprehension, analytic and critical thinking skills through the use of various learning materials
(journals, articles, publications). This project is expected to produce quality learning materials, and
activities designed solely for reading and comprehension program. The learning resources will be
evaluated and validated first before utilization and dissemination. To assess the effectiveness of the
program, teachers involve will create an assessment followed by data analysis and will be supported
by accomplishment reports and narrative reports. The results of the program will be presented to
science department for future utilization and further recommendations.
Nearly three years have passed since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has
resulted in substantial changes, particularly within the realm of education. Despite this span of time,
learners are still grappling with the adjustment to the learning methods introduced by the Department
of Education. The count of students who have discontinued their studies or are no longer actively
participating in learning activities continues to rise. These figures also have a bearing on the
assessment of critical learning competencies.
Pagbasa sa Agham as a form of remediation and enhancement is a reading program in
response to Hamon: Bawat Bata Bumabasa or DepEd 3B Initiative issued under DM 173, s. 2019.
With the successful project implementation last academic year, the Science Department of Bulihan
Integrated National High School will continue the “Pagbasa sa Agham” program. The project aims to
promote Science literacy through the help of DepEd partners and volunteers. The reading intervention
is a program supplementary to an existing literacy curriculum which is the main purpose is to uplift the
reading comprehension skills as wells as to develop their literacy on science terms.
The proponents firmly believe that this program will prove to be a highly effective means not
only of extending academic support to students but also of assisting other stakeholders who are
grappling with the unconventional methods of educational delivery in the new normal.
