The "Seven Wonders of the World" refers to a list of remarkable constructions or natural

formations from ancient times. There are actually several lists of wonders throughout history,
with some focusing on ancient wonders and others on modern wonders. The most famous list,
often referred to as the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, includes:
 The Great Pyramid of Giza: Located in Egypt, the Great Pyramid is the only surviving
structure from the original list. It was built as a tomb for the Pharaoh Khufu during the Fourth
Dynasty of the Old Kingdom.
 The Hanging Gardens of Babylon: Described by ancient writers as a remarkable feat of
engineering and horticulture, the Hanging Gardens were said to have been built in the ancient
city of Babylon (in modern-day Iraq). However, there is debate among scholars as to whether
they actually existed.
 The Statue of Zeus at Olympia: Created by the sculptor Phidias, the Statue of Zeus was a
giant seated figure of the god Zeus, housed in the Temple of Zeus at Olympia in Greece. It
was one of the most famous works of classical Greek art.
 The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus: Located in present-day Turkey, the Temple of Artemis
was dedicated to the goddess Artemis and was renowned for its grandeur and size. It was
destroyed and rebuilt multiple times before its final destruction in 401 AD.
 The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus: Built in Halicarnassus (now Bodrum, Turkey), the
Mausoleum was a grand tomb constructed for Mausolus, a satrap in the Persian Empire, and
his wife Artemisia. It was famous for its elaborate sculptures and architectural design.
 The Colossus of Rhodes: Erected on the Greek island of Rhodes, the Colossus was a massive
bronze statue of the sun god Helios. It stood at the entrance to the harbor of Rhodes but was
toppled by an earthquake in 226 BC.
 The Lighthouse of Alexandria: Also known as the Pharos of Alexandria, this ancient
lighthouse was located on the island of Pharos in Alexandria, Egypt. It was one of the tallest
man-made structures of its time and served as a beacon for sailors navigating the
Mediterranean Sea.
These wonders were celebrated for their architectural, artistic, and engineering achievements
and were considered marvels of the ancient world. However, with the exception of the Great
Pyramid of Giza, all of these structures have been lost to time, existing only in historical
records and archaeological remnants.
