Many people still believe that natural resources will never be used up. Actually, the world’s
energy resources are limited. Nobody knows exactly how much fuel is left. However, we should
also use them economically and try to find out alternative sources of power. According to
Professor Marvin Burnham, we have to start conserving coal, oil and gas before it is too late; and
nuclear power is the only alternative.
However, many people do not agree to use nuclear power because it is very dangerous.
Radioactivity causes cancer and may badly affect the future generations. The most effective thing
is that we should use natural resources as economically as possible.

Almost all our energy comes from oil, coal, and natural gas. We call them fossil fuels. The
earth’s fossil fuels are running out. What will happen when there is no coal, oil and gas on earth?
 Scientists are trying to find and use other alternative sources of energy. We can use energy from
the sun, the wind, and the water.
Solar energy is unlimited. The sun supplies all the energy used to grow plants, to evaporate water
for rain, and to maintain the temperature of the planet. All are necessary for human life. If we are
able to collect solar energy, we will be sure to have this abundant source of power.
Another source of energy from nature is the wind which is clean and plentiful. Energy from the
wind has been used for centuries to move ships, grind grain, pump water and do other forms of
work. In recent time, wind has been used to generate electricity.
Water can also provide power. For a long time, people have used water to power machines. Some
early uses of water were to mill grain, saw wood and power machinery for the textile industry.
Today water is mostly used to generate electricity.

Tet or Lunar New Year is the most important celebration in the year which occurs in late
January or early February. Tet is a time for family members who live apart try to be together. The
preparations and celebrations used to be spread over months but nowadays the holiday is much
shorter. However, there is great excitement building up well before Tet. Streets are decorated
with colored lights and red banners. Shops are full of goods. People often buy gifts, clean and
decorate their house and cook traditional foods for Tet.
On the first days of Tet people try to be nice and polite to others. They visit their relatives
or friends and exchange New Year’s wishes. Children receive the “lucky money” inside red
envelopes. Many people go to the pagoda to pray for a happy new year for themselves and their
family. Tet is really a time of fun and festivals throughout the country.
