Bra sizing — is it really as easy as learning your ABCs and 123s? Well, maybe not quite child’s play, but we
can certainly help demystify this somewhat complicated system, which tends to vary from style to style and
even brand to brand, especially when it comes to European manufacturers.
In the simplest terms, the U.S. uses letters A through F and so on, to represent cup size with incremental
increases in volume the further up you go. Multiple lettering, such as AA and DDD, is part of the nuanced
system too, which we’ll get into later. A bra’s numerical value indicates its band size, a calculation in inches
based on the measurement around a woman’s torso just under her breasts. These numbers typically start at 30
and increase by twos: 32, 34, 36… you get the idea.
So how do you navigate this alphanumeric roadmap? Let’s start with an overview of the most common sizing
available from a wide variety of retailers.
The band measurement and cup volume are the two key components, both crucial to determining your best-
fitting bra. Together, these should guide you to a size that provides optimal support and comfort, while
ensuring a great fit without any spillage or gapes.
Determining a woman’s ideal bra size requires a combination of three separate measurements — the bust, the
under-bust and the cup. All that’s needed to do this at home is a ribbon tape measure and a lightly lined bra,
which will hold the breasts in their most natural, non-lifted position.
Under-Bust Measurement
Start by wrapping the tape measure around the torso just beneath the breasts. The tape should rest flat against
the body, running parallel to the bottom edge of your bra band. If the measurement falls between whole
numbers, round up. Add four inches to the number if it happens to be even; add five if it turns out odd. This is
your band size. For example, with an under-bust number of 30, the expected band size will be a 34, whereas a
31-inch measurement would give you a band size of 36.
Getting an accurate number will help ensure your bra fits snugly to support breasts, however, it won’t be so tight
that it’ll cut into skin or inhibit your ability to easily move and breathe. Because underbands naturally stretch out
over time, remember to hook your bra closed on the loosest setting and only increase the tension with repeated
wear.
Bust Measurement
The next measurement you’ll need will be the fullest part of the bust. To determine this, simply wrap the tape
measure around breasts where they protrude most, making sure to keep the ribbon flat and parallel to your bra’s
underband. The difference in inches between the breast and under-bust will be what determines your cup size.
Knowing this, you’ll have an accurate sense of the volume needed to avoid overflow or gaping, which happens
when you’re wearing a cup that’s too small or too large for your chest.
Cup Size
So, how do you know what cup size you are? Every letter grade is equivalent to the difference of one inch
between the breast and under-bust calculations, starting with an A. That means a two-inch difference will result
in a B cup, a three-inch difference is a C, and so on up through the alphabet. You might think that multi-letter
sizes such as DD represent that cup volume, doubled — a common misconception, but these sizes are actually
just midpoints between letter grades. As an example, a DD is a cup that falls halfway between a D and an F,
reflecting a five-inch difference between a woman’s breast and under-bust measurements.
Once you have your numbers tallied, you can apply this sizing know-how to any style bra, keeping in mind that
oftentimes, slight variations will occur from one manufacturer to another. Trying on a few bras within your size
range to determine which fits your body shape best is always recommended, as is exploring the concept of sister
sizing.
Standard Sizing
For some types of undergarments, like unstructured bras, tanks and bodysuits, manufacturers may choose to go
the grouped sizing route, similar to the standards used in clothing. These include: small, medium and large, with
XS and XL bookending each side of the range, as well as plus sizes of 1X, 2X and so on. The groupings are
based on the band’s width rather than cup’s volume, meaning that letter grades are less relevant in this type of
sizing.
With standard sizing, you can expect a 32C and a 32D to be bracketed together as a Small, a 34C and a 34D to
both be Medium, a 36C and 36D to equate a Large, and so on, up through the fit range.
Knowing how your body’s proportions relate to sizing conventions will help take some of the guesswork out of
finding your ideal bra. Keep in mind that fluctuations will naturally occur over a woman’s lifetime, such as
volume loss due to age, hormonal shifts as a result of pregnancy and nursing as well as weight changes from
switch-ups to your diet and exercise routines. What that means is that it is important to retake your
measurements each time you shop for new bras, since figuring out your size is an always-evolving process.
Types of Underwear
Our butts come in just as many shapes and sizes as breasts do, but they’re definitely not as complicated. A lot
goes into determining the types of bras we wear, but not as much goes into choosing our underwear. It’s really
more about your own style preferences and what feels comfortable to you.
Underwear styles and designs are based on function for different types of clothing, so the right (or wrong one)
can make or break an outfit. There’s a reason why the saying “Don’t get your panties in a bunch!” exists; ill-
fitting underwear can seriously kill your mood.
Innovation in types of underwear have come a long way – and there’s still quite a ways to go – but now that
there’s so many options to choose from, it’s hard to know which type is best for what. That’s where we come in.
We’ll go over different types of underwear and which ones are best for what you’re looking for.
Cheekiness Scale
Before we get into the different types of underwear, let’s talk about cheek coverage. Women’s underwear styles
differ mostly by how much cheek they show, from full coverage to none at all. As we list the different types of
underwear, we’ll also note their level of “cheekiness.”
1. Thong
Thongs are made for super minimal coverage (to avoid visible panty lines) with a T-shape string in the back.
Like the bikini, it sits three inches below the waist, with the sides usually hitting right at or above the hip bone.
They come in a variety of fabrics, from cotton to lace, so that you can wear them every day and on special
occasions.
2. Hipster
Like the name suggests, the waistband on hipster (or hip hugger) underwear sits on the hips, a couple of inches
below the waist, and have low-cut leg holes. They come in a range of fabrics for comfort and style including
lace, mesh, cotton, and microfiber.
Cheeky-ness level:
¾ cheek.
3. Bikini
Bikinis are a type of underwear similar to the brief but without as much coverage. The waistband sits three
inches below the waist and has high-cut leg holes. They also come in string bikini form, in which the leg holes
are constructed with a thin string of fabric. They can come in the same comfy fabrics as briefs (cotton,
microfiber, and nylon), but also the more delicate ones like lace and argyle mesh.
Bikini underwear types are super versatile. You can wear them with anything from your favorite pair of jeans to
a mini skirt.
Cheeky-ness level:
Hint of cheek.
4. Boyshort
Boyshorts are modeled after men’s briefs, hence the name. They take on a more rectangular shape than most
panties and are similar to the hipster, the key difference being that they have a lower-cut leg. Some legs go
down as low as the thigh. Comfort is key with boyshorts, so fabrics tend to be cotton, microfiber, and nylon.
Cheeky-ness level:
No cheek.
5. G-String
G-string types of underwear have the least amount of coverage, i.e. none, only covering your vajay (barely).
Like a thong, it forms the same T-shape, but with a much skinnier string in the back. G-strings tend to be made
with more delicate fabrics, including lace and satin.
If you’re going for a no-underwear underwear look, a g-string is what you want. Great for form-fitting /
bodycon skirts and dresses; tights and leggings. Basically any time you want to avoid visible panty lines.
Probably not the most comfortable when wearing jeans and denim, but that’s your choice!
Cheeky-ness level:
Bare cheek.
6. Brief
Briefs are a type of women’s underwear that provide lots of front and back coverage. In a nutshell, they’re
designed to be comfortable. They can come in a variety of rises from low to high. Because they’re more about
comfort, the most common fabrics used for briefs are cotton, microfiber, and nylon.
Cheeky-ness level:
Hint of cheek.
7. Tanga Brief
Tanga types of underwear provide moderate to minimal coverage, with back coverage that is more than a thong
but narrower than a bikini. They’re a good option if you want something between a bikini and a thong.
Cheeky-ness level:
Bare cheek.
8. High-Cut / French-Cut
High-cut / french-cut types of underwear have the same high waist as the classic brief but feature high-cut leg
holes that rise just above the widest part of the thigh. They’re a sort of bikini-brief hybrid. You can find them in
fabrics from mesh to microfiber.
Cheeky-ness level:
Hint of cheek.
9. Control Brief
Control briefs are like regular briefs, but with the added function of shapewear. This women’s underwear style
creates a smooth silhouette around your abdomen. They sit high on the waist, just under the belly button with
some styles going as high as under the breasts.
Cheeky-ness level:
Hint of cheek.
Women’s underwear types with cotton give our butts that pillow-soft comfort we love, perfect for days when
you just wanna throw on your favorite joggers and tee.
Lace types of underwear are a favorite because they’re an elegant everyday option, but still sexy enough for a
night out.
Panties are one of the most intimate parts of our wardrobes. They have the power to make us feel special,
comfortable, sexy, flirty, fun, a little wild (or a lot), colorful and then some. Your choice of underwear can also
make or break your outfit and your day, depending on whether you’re wearing the right panties for the occasion.
But how do you choose the best underwear to wear? What are the advantages of a bikini over a boyshort, and
the differences between a G-string, a thong and a tanga? With our ultimate guide to women’s underwear for
every style and body type, you’ll feel your most beautiful and confident in every last thing you wear.

Thongs
Thongs and their cousins, the slightly wider-backed tangas, offer even more than the big advantage of no panty
lines. The next-to-nothing coverage of thong-style underwear is already sexy, even when sporty. You can take
that sexiness as far as you want: Thongs and tangas come in everything from cottony comfort to set-to-stun
lingerie, tummy control to low-rise and everything in between. Thongs and tangas are much more comfortable
now than when they first came on the scene. Made from lightweight, high-tech fabrics, you’ll barely know your
barely-there thongs and tangas are on. They love all body types, too. The main point of thongs and tangas is
how well they vanish due to their nonexistent rear coverage. Thongs and tangas come in a wide range of styles:
You can have smooth, seamless looks for day and, for night, a pearl thong or culotte, a sweetly sexy crotchless
tanga, a bow wrap or lace-up. Thongs and tangas are perfect for staying hidden under your most body-conscious
clothes, as well as for when you want to show off some seriously sexy lingerie. They’re small wonders that do
big things.
Wear thongs with: dresses, skirts, jeans and pants—anything, basically, where panty lines would be apparent
and unwelcome.

Bikini Panties
Bikini underwear is among the most versatile styles you can own, because it can work as both comfy underwear
and lovely lingerie at the same time. Bikinis offer moderate coverage between a full-coverage granny panty and
a thong or tanga; the bikini leg opening tends to hit mid-butt cheek. At the waist, placement can be below, on or
just over the hip. When it comes to comfort, they’re in the “ahhhh” category. You can also find bikini styles in
the lingerie world, like those made of sheer fabric, sporting a strappy cage back and more. Bikini panties are a
great go-to for coverage and comfort. If the bikini is your cut, you’ll find a wide variety of styles to suit your
every mood.
Wear bikini panties with: flowing or loose skirts and roomy or boyfriend-fit jeans or pants. Bikinis work fine
with pants in thicker fabrics like corduroy, too.

Hipsters
Hipsters don’t just sit on your hips; they love your hips. This wide-banded hybrid of a brief and a bikini wants to
celebrate your figure. Low-profile, fuss-free underwear, hipsters don’t ride up, fall down or move out of place.
They can even be your favorites when it comes to sexy lingerie styles. Because the band embraces your hips,
hipster underwear for women occupy the sweet spot of snug and comfy. They offer almost complete coverage in
the back. Hipsters work for all body types, accentuating the curves of slender silhouettes and taking hourglass
figures straight into the goddess zone. For fun, look for special details like lace trim, sheer fabric, seamless
design, peek-a-boo keyholes and vibrant colors and patterns to mix up your hipster underwear wardrobe.
Whether you wear them for yourself or to show off, hipsters make the most of your shape, and they do it in a
comfortable, easygoing way.
Wear hipsters with: mid-rise jeans and pants, because they’ll meet the waistband without peeking over the top.

G-Strings
G-string style underwear was originally designed to be discreet, offering minimal coverage and no panty lines.
They’re still top performers when you want to look like you’re not wearing underwear but don’t actually want to
go without, or you need some very sexy lingerie. The difference between G-strings, thongs and tangas is that G-
strings have the least coverage in the back—just the thinnest strip of fabric between the cheeks, versus the band
that makes up the back of a thong and the slightly wider tanga. Some women say G-string underwear is the
ultimate for a “barely there” feel, while others like G-strings for their sexy effect. If you’re looking for
something a little flashy, you’ll find lots of fantasy-fulfilling G-string panties with special features like
crotchless fronts, pearl strands and almost any other G-thing you can dream of. G-strings are more than just an
insurance policy against panty lines; they’re a way to bring a little levity into your lingerie. They’re pretty…and
pretty daring!
Wear G-strings with: booty-hugging jeans, leggings, skirts and dresses. The total absence of back coverage you
get from G-string style panties means you won’t detect them at all under your outfit.

Boy Shorts
Boy shorts are the women’s underwear equivalent of super-comfy men’s boxer briefs…but a whole lot cuter.
Boy shorts come in a variety of hip heights. These shorts-style women’s panties offer more coverage in the back
than a hipster or brief because they extend down the legs a bit. Boy shorts are one of the comfiest kinds of
women’s underwear, but there are also lots of styles that are meant for the bedroom, with ribbon backs, sheer
lace, a high rise and more. Who knew that a women’s panty style based on men’s underwear could be so
outrageously feminine?
Wear boy shorts with: roomy jeans or pants in thicker fabrics during the day. By night or on a lazy Sunday is
when boy shorts really shine, doubling as sleepwear and loungewear.

Briefs
No need to borrow from the boys. Brief-style underwear for women has the comfort engineering of men’s
briefs, but they’re designed for women’s bodies, with decidedly feminine style. On the whole, briefs are all
about a snug, cozy fit. Briefs for women come in a range of rises, from hip to mid-waist, so they sit higher up on
your torso than bikini underwear. They offer pretty complete coverage in the back. The rear coverage usually
does away with visible panty lines, though under thinner fabrics, a thong or tanga will probably be your better
bet. Some briefs come with added control for a smooth tummy, and briefs work with all body types for an easy-
wearing fit and feel.
Wear briefs with: the high-waisted pants and jeans trending now because they complement the waistband; you
feel soft fabric on your tummy instead of a cold metal zipper or, worse, chafing.

Seamless Panties
Most fashion rules were meant to be broken, but one preference is universal: Panty lines need never happen. Not
when there are smooth, seamless panties to ensure that your best outfits have a flawless finish. Seamless styles
don’t sacrifice comfort while eliminating panty lines. They come in both hipster styles, offering more rear
coverage, and bikini styles, offering mid-cheek coverage. Because of their flat-seam design, there’s never any
bunching, riding up or shifting, and definitely no seams showing. Seamless women’s panties have a super-thin,
flat laser-cut hem at the legs and waistband or are finished with a special woven fabric that won’t betray you
with lines or bumps. Some seamless women’s underwear also extend down the leg, becoming seamless shorts
for added hip and leg smoothness. Whatever level of coverage you want, seamless panty styles mean smooth
sailing.
Wear seamless panties with: your silkiest dress, closest-fitting skirt or lightest pants while enjoying the comfort
and coverage of bikini or hipster style panties (as opposed to a thong).

that’s a sweetly innocent bikini, a lacy hipster or something a little more daring with flirty straps. Their sexy
surprise, and what sets them apart from other types of women’s underwear, is a strategic opening that puts the
"oh!" in oh la la. These little numbers come in a variety of styles, sweet to sassy, so choose from the types you

unself-conscious. No lingerie wardrobe is complete without at least one pair that’s ready to come out and play.

Activewear Panties
Athletic panties are potentially more important than the workout gear you wear over them. Whether you want to
wear your clingiest yoga pants or your baggiest running shorts, athletic panties are designed to let you focus on
your A-game. What’s on your wish list for athletic underwear? That it keeps you comfortable, dry and moves
with you without bunching, falling, wedging or other underwear fails. Our collection of athletic panties was
designed to win in all of those categories: Anti-microbial, sweat-wicking fabric takes moisture away from your
skin to keep you dry and going strong. The high-performance athletic designs move with you, and they’re as
strong as they are soft. Nobody wants to work out in ugly undies, either. That’s why athletic panties look cool

and activewear. However you enjoy staying fit, our experts can help you find the right kind of athletic panties

Sheer Panties
Sheer women’s panties hint at sexiness in the most alluring way. They come in a variety of styles, so
you get to choose exactly the kind of look you want while enjoying their whisper-thin feel. Many sheer
types of panties are cut like a traditional bikini, hipster, thong or other familiar panty style, so you can
get as many different options as the night is long. And because they’re made of fabrics designed to be
diaphanous, they’re breezy against the skin. Sheer and nearly see-through panties are made in a
major range of fabrics, from super-feminine lacy styles to fine mesh. Some sheer panties have
strategic cutouts that take them from suggestion-of-sexiness to all-out bold. They run the gamut from
functional to fun—you get to decide how much you want to show off. Sheer panties are best known for
their beauty…and their playfulness. When you want to go sort of bare but still want something there,
sheer panties are the most appealing answer.

2. Non-Padded Bra
Non-padded types of bras don't come with additional padding in the cups. The cups are simple in form
and come with two or more layers of fabric. Women with fuller breasts may often be seen opting for non-
padded bras . Without the padding, you might feel that the bra is not overly accentuating your breasts but
is also providing you with the right amount of support you need.
3. Wired Bra
With a metal underwire sewn into the cups, a wired bra supports and shapes your breasts to create the
perfect silhouette. You'll get that much-needed support and lift with this style. This type of bra is
available in both full coverage and demi coverage styles.
4. Non-Wired Bra
The non-wired bra doesn't have a metal underwire in the cups, making it much more flexible and easy to
move in. The elasticity of the band and straps provide support to your breasts. Perfect for comfort and
long periods.
2. Plunge Neckline
The plunge bra has cups which are low cut, making them perfect for outfits with low necklines. These
bras are also available with padding, providing a certain degree of lift and contouring to your bust.
3. Balconette Neckline
With cups that only cover your breasts partially, the Balconette bra offers much less coverage than a T-
shirt or a push-up bra. It gives you a natural lift and a much more naturally contoured look. Because this
type of bra offers less coverage, it is better suited to women with small to average-sized busts. As the
straps are wide, balconette bras make for excellent inner wear when wearing a boat neck silhouette.
4. Round Neckline
Round neckline bras come in various styles. Halter bras, lounge bras and sports bras are some examples.
These bras help provide breathing space for your breasts.
Note: With amanté's ultra-light 2MM padding, these bras can contour and accentuate your figure without
making you feel bulky.
2. Push-Up Bra
The padding in a push-up bra will centre, shape and accentuate your bust. It can also help you go up a cup
size for a more 'full' look. Push-up bras also help give a uniform appearance for asymmetrical bust
shapes. Being one of the most popular bras, they are available in wired and non-wired options and with
full-coverage or demi cups. Push-up bras are great for when you want to accentuate your silhouette or
when you plan to wear an outfit with a low neckline. Seamless push-up bras that can be worn under tight
shirts and fitted T-Shirts.
3. Strapless/Multiway Bra
Stylish yet invisible, the strapless bra gives you all the support of a regular bra without the shoulder
straps. This makes the strapless bra perfect for when you want to wear an off-shoulder or halter-neck
style outfit.
A strapless bra can come with detachable straps that can make it a multiway bra. The multiway bra is one
of the most versatile bras types in lingerie. With straps that detach at one or both ends, they can be re-
attached in multiple ways to meet the needs of different outfits.
4. Bralettes
This fashion-first style is perfect for special occasions. They look great when worn under sheer
ensembles, blazers and tops with plunging necklines, or even worn on their own with a chic pair of
trousers! A bralette has no underwire, making it very easy to slip it on and move freely while wearing
one.
A front closure bra has a clasp in the front, right between the cups, rather than on the back of the band.
The clasp is located at the front of the bra and offers a smooth finish at the back. This bra style is
available in various fun colours, perfect for those deep neckline outfits.
6. Nursing Bra
A blessing to nursing mothers, the nursing bra is specifically designed to aid and assist women during the
breastfeeding stage. They come with additional panels or clasps that open over the breasts, making them
accessible and enabling women to feed the baby without taking off the bra.
7. Bandeau/Tube Bra
Basic, simple and as the name suggests, a band-like bra or a tube without wiring and straps. Bandeau bras
may or may not have padding or can come with removable pads. This style is excellent for halter necks,
racerbacks and tops with more visible shoulders.
8. Full-Figure bra
Full-figure bras are a big girl's dream come true! These bras are designed for women who are well-
endowed and have fuller bosoms. Designed especially with bigger bust sizes, full-figure bras feature cups
that provide full coverage and reduced spilling. The wide side wings and broader straps offer support and
comfort to your breasts. Sizes range from DD cups all the way to E and F too!
9. Plus-Size Bra
Like full-figure bras, plus-size bras are an attractive choice for curvy women who are of plus size. While
full-figure bras focus on cup sizes, plus-size bras concentrate more on thicker band sizes for proper
support.
With more support than a low-impact sports bra, a medium-impact sports bra is ideal for any activity,
resulting in a more significant amount of breast movement and 'bounce'. Hiking, playing golf, weight
lifting, and power walking are activities that are ideal for this type of sports bra.
A high-impact sports bra provides the highest degree of support to the breasts. Wear a high-impact sports
bra whenever you're doing any activity, which could create a lot of movement of the bust, like running,
skipping, jogging, etc.
Well, that's all for now. Don't get overwhelmed. Make sure you choose the right bra based on the function
you'd like it to serve. Some are must-haves, some are bare essentials, and others might be for a special
occasion. In case you're wondering which bra style suits your breast shape, we have another blog on
different types of breast shapes. The perfect bra for you is out there. It's time to go looking!

Ah, bras! The one non-male thing in existence we have a love-hate relationship with. A bra is an undergarment
worn by women to support the breasts, but they do more than just support. Believe it or not, bras do help in
keeping your boobs perky, shapely, and stop them from sagging. All the bra myths that you have heard such
as sleeping in a bra is bad for you is pure poppycock, and we have proof. Of course, you can only expect your
bra to deliver such superhero qualities as long as you are wearing the right one for your size.

breasts, there are different types of bras. Your collection of bras needs to be well stocked to include all the
essentials such as the T-shirt bra, the multiway bra, the backless bra, the strapless bra, the push-up bra, the
sports bra, and much more. If you are in love with the shape of you, a big part of that reason are bras.

A Bralette
A bralette is a type of bra that can double up as a top and is often worn for style and comfort. It does not have
any wires or moulded cups. It has thin, delicate straps, the design is predominated by lace and lace inserts, and it
provides a reasonable amount of support – ideal for women with a small to average build. A bralette can be
thought of as that super cropped top that you can wear as it is, without a primary layer underneath. It has been
the most popular fashion item to team with pantsuits among celebrities in 2018. Oh yes, it is fancier than you
think!

A Bustier
Considered a medical necessity in the Victorian era, a bustier is a form-fitting intimate that pushes the bust up
by tightening your midriff and thereby, forcing your breasts up. It also shapes the waist gently at the same time.
You can choose from strapless, seamless, push-up, and underwired bustiers among others.
People often don’t understand the difference between a bustier and a corset. But more on that in the next
section.

A Corset
Known for its slimming powers, the corset came into being around the 1550s when Catherine de’ Medici,
Queen of France during the time, banned ‘thick waists’ at court. Ever since then, the corset has been in vogue
for the shapely look it lends an ensemble. It is a tightly fitting undergarment extending from below the chest to
the hips, worn to shape the figure. What it does is cinch the waist and thereby emphasize the bust and hips,
giving one a curvaceous figure.
The difference?

A Teddy/ Bodysuit
A teddy is an all-in-one undergarment and it is for this reason, often referred to as a bodysuit. A piece of lingerie
that combines the functions of a camisole and panties, the teddy (also known as a cami-knicker), is swimsuit-
style one-piece lingerie that covers the torso and crotch area. It works great if you want to get rid of panty lines
or wear under short dresses. And a sexy one, we mean the lacey one, can be quite handy in the boudoir as well
*wink wink*!

A Thong
A thong is a garment generally worn as either underwear or even as a swimsuit in some countries. It is super
skimpy, with only a small strip of fabric covering just your crotch area while at the back the material is reduced
to a bare minimum. When viewed from the front, thongs typically resemble a bikini bottom.
POPxo Recommends: 3-pack Lace String Briefs (Rs 699) by H&M
ADVERTISEMENT
Did you know? A thong is a very popular bridal wear for the wedding night in the western culture owing to its
high sex appeal.
Thongs are an excellent undergarment to get rid of visible panty lines after seamless panties and, of course,
going commando. There are two types of thongs – the G-string and the C-string.
G-string
Very similar to thongs, G-string panties provide very less coverage. The front and the back fabric directly
connects to the waistband which is nothing more than a tiny little string. You can say, it is the ‘string’ holding
up the cloth.
If, like me, you are also wondering why is a G-string called a ‘G’ string, Quora has an explanation – The lowest
string on a violin is the G-string, it is directly related to this. The lowest string on your body to cover the groin,
‘goods’ or ‘G-spot’, is a G-string. Hence, the name. Interesting, right? It is also called by some as a V-string
because its shape looks like a ‘V’.
C-string
Extremely sexy and sensuous, C-string is the new age underwear and swimwear, which has been a bikini trend
for some time now. The C-string style actually has no strings at all and covers just the bare minimum like a
clamp around your area. I guess, it is called a C-string because it looks like a ‘C’. In my opinion, the C-string is
the most challenging lingerie as I can’t tell how much support can these little ones offer. But hey, this will spice
up your underwear collection with no string attached!
A Garter
Garters are intimate clothing items that are essentially narrow bands of fabric fastened around your mid-thighs.
They come in a set of two, one for each leg, and can be worn at the end of your stockings. They are usually
connected with straps to hold the stockings in place and keep them from slipping.
POPxo Recommends: Lace Garter (Rs 395) by Hunkemoller
ADVERTISEMENT
A Garter Belt
A garter belt is like a suspender belt of the lingerie world. It has an attached panty with clips on the lower end
and can be added over almost any type of underwear. The whole scenario works something like this – You have
your regular underwear underneath over which you wear the garter belt. The belt is then clipped to the stockings
holding them the right side up. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!
POPxo Recommends: Floral Lace Garter Belt (Rs 795) by Hunkemoller
Pantyhose
ADVERTISEMENT
Pantyhose are extremely thin and close-fitting legwear or nylon tights covering the wearer’s body from the
waist to the toes. They are ultra sheer and considered a convenient alternative to stockings since they have both
the panty as well as the socks attached. With pantyhose, you can forget all about the garter and garter belts.
They won’t move a millimeter from their place.
POPxo Recommends: Beige Sheer Pantyhose (Rs 384) by Pink Flamingo
Stockings
Stockings are longer, sheer socks that are worn under mini skirts and mini dresses. Not as tight as pantyhose,
they are close-fitting elastic garments covering the leg from the foot up to the knee or possibly part or all of the
thighs. They come in many different colours, designs, patterns, and sheer levels, and are more of a fashion
statement than lingerie item today especially during winters. Style them with tall boots and see how they
stylishly transform your outfit.

POPxo Recommends: 20 Denier Nylon Stockings (Rs 399) by H&M
Nipple Covers
Nipple covers, as the name suggests, are small adhesive patches to cover your nipular area. They are also
referred to as pasties and come in different sizes and shapes. They are usually disposable, one-time use
intimates. Their coverage is strictly limited to the nipples and are worn with backless, super deep V-neck or
front cut-out necklines to avoid a nip slip. No more refraining from cut-out dresses, ladies.

A Babydoll or Negligee
Want to knock the wind out of your partner? A classy yet utterly sexy babydoll is the way to go. It is a short,
mostly sleeveless, loose-fitting dress or negligee, intended as nightwear for women. Sometimes, it comes with
formed cups too in addition to the flowy attached skirt that falls till the upper thigh. If you don’t already own
one, you need to get your hands on one now! Head to the link below without further ado and pick out one as
sensual as this one right here that even Christian Grey would approve of!
POPxo Recommends: Strappy Babydoll with Lace Inset (Rs 1,599) by Sweet Dreams
Chemise
ADVERTISEMENT
A chemise is a short slip dress that is simple to (literally) slip into. Historically speaking, a chemise was a
simple garment worn next to the skin to protect the clothing from sweat and body oils.
People often get confused between a babydoll and a chemise. But, the primary difference between the two
lingerie dresses is that a chemise is slightly tighter around the hips while a babydoll is completely free falling.
While a chemise can be worn under a dress as an underslip, a babydoll can be considered an intimate bedroom
outfit in itself.
You should definitely have one in your wardrobe for yourself. It will make you feel super feminine and flirty.
POPxo Recommends: Underdress with Lace Panels (Rs 1,995) by Hunkemoller

A Romper
You have your camisole and tap pants set, right? A romper is basically the two joined into one. In other words,
a one-piece with short-shorts attached, consider it a lingerie version of a playsuit. They tend to have a playful
vibe and are typically made of cotton or other comfy materials making them cosy enough to lounge around sall
day. To amp up the sex appeal, opt for one in other materials such as see-through mesh, tulle, soft satin or
elegant lace.

A Robe
ADVERTISEMENT
There is something about slipping into a stylish silk or satin robe, say while you are doing your hair and makeup
before a night out, that can instantly make any woman feel like a diva starring in her very own glamorous
movie. A robe is a long, loose-fitting outer garment with the length ranging from the mid-thigh to the ankle. It
comes with an attached fabric belt to tie-up in the front. Oh, and let us not forget that robes are equally good to
lounge in or carry on vacations too. Are you thinking resort wear too? Bang on! Throw on this pretty robe on
your camisole and tap pants set and wander around the house in comfy chic style.

1. Cotton fabric:
Commonly, cotton is a plant fiber that’s particularly made up of a polymer called cellulose. Cotton
fabric is one of the best suited fabrics for underwear worn every day for long duration. It is very soft
and gentle to the skin and doesn’t cause skin irritation. It is a very breathable fabric that will prevent
excessive moisture and heat from building up.
2. Hemp fabric:
Hemp fabric is a textile material extracted from the Cannabis sativa plant. The fibers in the stalks of
the plant are prominently used to manufacture the fabric since these fibers are known to be extremely
durable and tensile. Because of its some of the amazing properties, it is best material to use for making
underwear.
3. Silk fabric:
Silk is a very smooth and shiny fabric produced by silkworms, because of which it is more expensive.
Silk has sweat-wicking and moisture-wicking properties and is also an unbelievably soft fabric that
will provide optimal comfort.
1. Organza fabric:
This fabric has sheer and transparent with a touch of sparkle and a very beautiful fabric to use to add
decorative notes to the lingerie. One can add shaped motifs that subtly catch the light or petticoat
layer to the babydoll. Organza is sheer with an ethereal aesthetic, which makes it a perfect choice for
lingerie. It can bring a slight firmness without adding any weight, ideal for undergarments.
a. Super stretchy
b. Transparent with fluid drape
c. Lightweight and breathable
d. Gentle on the skin
e. Non-fray knitted net
3. Nylon fabric:
Nylon is a synthetic fabric that is made from crude oil. Initially, nylon from crude oil is a plastic, after
which it undergoes further chemical processing to manufacture the strong, stretchy nylon fibers that
work so well as a fabric in clothing.
4. Spandex fabric:
This synthetic fiber is generally composed of polyurethane. It is a highly elastic type of fabric and
because of which it can withstand a large amount of wear and tear. Due to its stretchability, spandex is
a popular underwear fabric that is best suited to those who live an active lifestyle, e.g., athletes.
5. Polyester fabric:
Polyester fiber is a stretchy and very strong synthetic fabric manufactured from petroleum. It is first
a PET plastic and then undergoes a process called melt spinning to form polyester fibers that are used
to make the fabric.
1. Satin fabric:
Thus fabric is made with a satin weave. Simply, it is a woven fabric with one direction of its threads
crossing on top of multiple threads going the other direction. This adds extra light and creates a
smooth, lustrous effect. Satin can be made of silk, polyester, rayon, and even cotton. If the fabrics are
made from shorter fibers like cotton and rayon then, it is called “sateen,” and has less shine. It us used
for making lingerie because it has a smoother hand than plain woven fabric, so it’s perfect for
garments that sit close to your skin.
2. Lace fabric:
Lace fabric is one of the most popular and versatile lingerie fabrics. Either it’s a full fabric or a tiny
trim, because of it’s delicacy it is perfect for lingerie. Modern lingerie lace is almost always machine
made, often of nylon, with elastane added for stretch as per the requirement. If it requires thicker feel,
it’s sometimes made with metallic threads, or even cotton fibers. Lace is usually crafted with floral
or botanical motifs, but geometric patterns have become more common over the last few years. Even
cheaper lace can elevate a lingerie design from simple to stunning.
Fig: Lace in underwear
3. Jersey fabric:
This fabric is being associated with the t-shirt drawer, but jersey is everywhere in the lingerie world.
The basic underwear in the drawer is probably made of jersey knit, and even the fancier pairs likely
have a cotton jersey gusset inside. The front of jersey knit fabric is smooth, while there is a tiny “loops”
of the knit closely on the back. Jersey can be made of nearly any fiber. Cotton, polyester, and rayon are
commonly used, while wool and silk are more rare. Most lingerie jersey includes some amount of
elastane for extra stretch. Because of its stretchy nature, so it can move with the body and it’s easy to
fit, it is best suited fabric for lingerie
4. Mesh fabric:
Mesh fabric means any fabric that has space between its yarns. Lingerie often uses a hexagonal mesh.
This fabric is named after the six-sided shape of its negative space, and works for so many
applications: as a rigid sheer base for embroidery, as stiff tulle trim on a nightgown, or as the stretchy
body of a pair of sheer knickers. Lingerie mesh is made from nylon, with elastane added for stretching
purpose. Its softness or stiffness depends on the fiber content, the size of the space between the yarns,
and the finish on the fabric. A stable hex mesh called “powermesh” is often used as interlining for
bras, as well as in shapewear and activewear where extra compression is desired.
5. Microfiber fabric:
This fabric is made from very thin synthetic fibers, giving the fabric an ultra-soft hand. Microfiber
fabrics are in demand, all industries right now, but those made for lingerie are typically a thin knit.
They can be made of polyester, nylon, or rayon, usually with elastane added for stretch. Microfiber is
often used for activewear undergarments, as it wicks moisture and feels light and airy against the skin.
It can also be used for ultra-soft, super-slinky loungewear, nightwear, and underwear. This fabric is
also commonly used for a smooth finish on t-shirt bras.

A bodysuit is basically a bra and underwear in one (and is sometimes referred to as a teddy). Although
a bodysuit offers more coverage than two separate pieces, it's somehow sexier. Probably because it's
a go-to "special occasion" style, making it a perfect pick for your wedding night,
honeymoon, Valentine's Day or anniversary.

Bra
Obviously, you know what a bra is—but a delicate bra and underwear set alone can make a sexy
statement on the wedding night and every other day of the year. Bras come in a variety of styles,
including triangle, push-up, demi, balconette and more, so you can really choose the fit that you love
most. Look for a bra embellished with embroidery or lace to elevate it to special-occasion status.
Bralette
A bralette is a bra without underwire or other structural elements, so it tends to offer less support. For
some, that's a draw, but for others, it's a dealbreaker, so try the fit out for yourself. Note: Some
bralettes don't have clasp closures and need to be removed over your head.
Shopping for lingerie on a budget? This convertible bralette is an affordable and versatile option that
can also double as a going-out top. The convertible straps can be worn as a halter, criss-cross or
traditional—so you can easily create three different looks with this one piece.

Bustier
Want to add extra va-va-voom to the wedding night? Wear this lingerie style to accentuate your
cleavage. A bustier is an extended bra top that usually covers all or most of the torso, though
there are bustier bras that end well above the belly button. For an ultra-bridal look, go white and lacy.
Or, if you're looking to pump up the sex appeal, go for a strappier style in black or red. Want
something more extravagant? Buy one with attached garters so you can add thigh-high stockings.
Seven 'til Midnight Lace Underwire Bustier and Cutout Briefs Set in Lavender
Guess what? This plus-size lace bustier set comes with matching cutout briefs, so you don't have to
worry about buying a separate pair. Best of all, the sultry cutouts and removable garters are the
perfect way to help you go all out. Choose from two colorways: swoon-worthy Lavender or daring
Black.

A camisole (aka cami) is a lingerie tank top usually with spaghetti straps. Choose one in a silky or satin
fabric with lace accents for a luxe vibe, and pair it with tap shorts (which are lingerie short-shorts). It's
an excellent option if you want something comfy and pajama-esque for the wedding night and
beyond. Plus, a cami can also be worn with a thong (or any other underwear bottoms) to show a little
more skin.
Lulus Sweetest Dreams Satin Ruffled Two-Piece Pajama Set in Navy Blue
You can wear this two-piece satin cami and short set in the bedroom or around the house on lazy
Sunday mornings. Our favorite parts? The slightly cropped bodice and the adorable ruffled hem on
the matching satin lounge shorts.
$36 | Lulus
Chemise/Babydoll
A chemise is a short slip dress that you can literally slip into, and it can be paired with a matching
bikini or thong. They're often confused with a babydoll, which is slightly shorter and typically falls just
below the panties. Both will make you feel so beautiful and flirty—kind of like a wedding dress, only
skimpier.
$36 | Yandy
Corset
In the past, corsets tangibly cinched the waist and had grommets and ties that would be pulled tight,
squeezing the midsection. Today, some corsets are still worn as shapewear that can help smooth the
appearance of the torso. But a wedding night corset isn't about slimming anything—it's worn just for
fashion's sake. Some may have boning in them for style and support, but avoid any corset styles with
painful squeezing! For your special day, look for a corset with details such as lace, grommets, satin
straps or attached garters.
A garter belt (aka suspender belt) has clips that allow it to hold up thigh-high stockings. Plus, you can
add it to almost any type of lingerie. Match it with a coordinating bra and panty to take it from
ordinary to super sultry.
Pair this flirty garter belt with your other favorite styles of black lace lingerie. It features a two-gate
hook-and-eye back closure with four adjustable garter straps attached. Incorporating this alluring
piece into your lingerie rotation will be a breeze.
$21 | Torrid
Hipster
This underwear cut sits low on the hips and covers the back side with a little extra length on the
bottom (but it's not as long as a boy short). Instead, it has more coverage and lends a more youthful
and trendy look than traditional cuts, like the bikini.
$20 | Nordstrom
Robe
A sumptuous bridal robe can be worn prewedding while you're getting ready. Afterward, in the
honeymoon suite, open it to reveal the underthings of your choice—or nothing at all. Skip the typical
terry cloth bathrobe and treat yourself to a more luxurious fabric.

Romper
In the lingerie world, a romper is basically a cami and tap short in one (or a one-piece with short
shorts attached). Rompers tend to have a playful vibe and may be made of cotton or other comfy
materials that are cozy enough to lounge around the house. Others are made of mesh, tulle and lace,
while some are completely see-through—so choose the style that makes you feel your best.
$48 | Lulus
Thong
Thong underwear is one of the most revealing types of lingerie, with only a small strip of fabric in the
back to show off your backside. For the big night, you can pair your thong with a cami, chemise,
bustier, corset and/or a garter belt and thigh-highs—or nothing at all.
Equal parts naughty and nice, a classic lace thong is always a good choice to keep in your lingerie
drawer. This one, available in plus and standard sizes, is crafted from soft cotton-jersey fabric and
features a flirty lace trim around the waist and legs.
