SIWES REPORT FORMAT GUIDE

1. INTRODUCTION
Writing a successful SIWES (Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme) report involves

presenting a comprehensive and organized document that effectively communicates your learning

experiences and achievements during the industrial training.

The report should be type-written using MS Word, printed, soft bonded and is to be submitted by

the students to their SIWES Coordinator, Computer Science Department for review, presentation

and grading. Here is a general structure and guidelines to help you write your SIWES report.

2. FORMATTING OF SIWES REPORT


The format for SIWES report writing using Microsoft Word is as follows:

1. Paper: A4 Sized White Paper

2. Font: Times New Roman

3. Font Size: 12

4. Line Spacing: 2.0 (Double Line)

5. Aligned/Justified on Both Sides

6. The SIWES report should be approximately 30 to 50 pages in length, providing a

comprehensive overview of the experience.

3. PAGINATION

1. All pages except the Cover page must be numbered from the bottom (middle) of the page.

2. Use small Roman numerals for all preliminary pages. Begin the numbering with a small

Roman numeral ii at the bottom of the page following the Cover page.

3. Page numbers begin with number 1, and must be within the margins at the bottom of each

page from chapter.

4. ORGANIZATION AND STRUCTURE OF THE IT REPORTS
Each SIWES Report shall contain the following parts:
1. Cover Page (As Shown in Appendix A) (not numbered)
2. Title page (As Shown in Appendix B) ii
3. Dedication iii
4. Acknowledgement iv
5. List of figures (if applicable) v
6. List of Tables (if applicable) vi
7. Table of Contents vii
8. Abbreviations (if any) viii
9. Abstract ix
Chapters Titles

Chapter One: Introduction

Chapter Two: Organizational Role/Responsibilities and Daily Activities

Chapter Three: Learning Experiences and Achievements

References

When writing a report, it is important to follow proper citation guidelines, such as the APA

(American Psychological Association) Style, for any references used. Using the APA style ensures

that sources are properly credited and that readers can easily locate and verify the information

being referenced.

Note: A maximum of four-chapter structure is also acceptable provided all the chapters

indicated above are inclusive.

CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCTION


1. Introduction:

a) Introduce the purpose and objectives of your SIWES program.

b) Include a brief background of the industry and the role it plays in your field of

study.

2. Objectives of SIWES:

Clearly state the objectives you set out to achieve during your industrial training.

CHAPTER TWO: ORGANIZATIONAL ROLE/RESPONSIBILITIES AND DAILY

ACTIVITIES

1. Description of the Industry:

a) Provide an overview of the industry, its products/services, and its significance in

the field.

b) Include the location, size, and structure of the organization.

2. Duration and Location of Training:

Specify the period during which the training occurred and the physical location of

the training.

3. Job Description:

a) Detail the specific tasks and responsibilities you were assigned during the training.

b) Highlight the relevance of these tasks to your field of study.

CHAPTER THREE: LEARNING EXPERIENCES AND ACHIEVEMENTS

1. Languages, Tools and Techniques Learned:

a) Discuss any languages, tools, equipment, or techniques you learned during your

training.

b) Explain how these tools contribute to the industry's operations.

c) Presents any software that you developed (if any) during the IT period.

2. Challenges Faced:

a) Describe any challenges or obstacles encountered during your training pertaining

your field of study.

b) Discuss how you overcame or addressed these challenges.

3. Achievements and Contributions:

Highlight any notable achievements or contributions you made during your

industrial training pertaining your field of study.

4. Conclusion:

Summarize your overall experience and discuss how the training has contributed to

your personal and professional development.

5. Recommendations:

Suggest any improvements or recommendations for the industry based on your

observations and experiences in your field of study.

6. References:

Cite any references or sources used in your report.

7. Appendices:

Include supplementary materials such as photographs, charts, graphs, or any

additional information relevant to your report.
