The toy is crocheted with yarn of several colors. I used a method of changing a thread
color using slip stitches and lifting loops. But if you want, you may use more simple way to
change the color, which is shown at the picture below.

Arms (2 pieces)
Start crocheting with white yarn.

Round 1: 5sc in MR (5)

Round 2: 5inc (10)

Round 3 (working in BLO): 10sc (10)

Round 4: 10sc (10)

Change the color to the red one — join thread using sl st,
then make 1ch. Cut the white yarn, fasten and hide yarn tail.

Next we change a thread color similarly.

Rounds 5 -6: 10sc (2 rounds) (10)

Change the color to the orange one.

Rounds 7 -8: 10sc (2 rounds) (10)

Change the color to the yellow one.

Round 9: 10sc (10)

Round 10: 8sc, dec (9)

www.GurumiLandDesign.etsy.com 6
Rainbow Zebra @GurumiLand_design

Change the color to the green one.

Rounds 11-12: 9sc (2 rounds) (9)

Stuff only bottom of the arm and do not stuff the upper part. This way the arm doesn't
stick out too much after sewing it to the body.

Change the color to the blue one.

Round 13: 9sc (9)

Round 14: 7sc, dec (8)

Change the color to the indigo one.

Rounds 15-16: 8sc (2 rounds) (8)

Change the color to the violet one.

Rounds 17-18: 8sc (2 rounds) (8)

Fold the part in half, connecting the upper edges and work 3sc through both edges. Cut
off yarn.

Make two arms.

Legs (2 pieces)
Start crocheting with white yarn.

Round 1: 6sc in MR (6)

Round 2: 6inc (12)

Round 3 (working in BLO): 12sc (12)

Round 4: 12sc (12)

Change the color to the orange one.

Rounds 7-8: 12sc (2 rounds) (12)

Cut off yarn.

Make two legs.

Let’s join the legs.

Take one leg and join yellow yarn (in place where you finished
crocheting the leg). Work 8 ch and join another leg using sl st.
The stitch marker goes through the back.

Change the color to the violet one.

Round 23: 36sc (36)

Round 24: (4sc, dec)*6 (30)

Change the color to the red one.

Round 25: 30sc (30)

Align the beginning of the round to the middle of the back.

Work or undo as many stitches as you need to place the

Joining the arms.

Round 26: 6sc, 3sc together with arm*, 12sc, 3sc

together with another arm*, 6sc (30)

*3sc together with arm — it means, that you work

together two layers — one of arm and one of previous
round, grabbing with the hook a stitch of arm and a stitch
of body. You work 3 such stitches.

Change the color to the orange one.

Round 27: 30sc (30)

Head

Start crocheting with red yarn.

Work 5 ch and start crocheting from the 2-nd stitch from the
hook:

Round 1: 3sc, 3sc in the last ch, along the other

side of the chain: 2sc, inc (10)

Round 4: 2sc, inc, 2sc, (2sc, inc)*3, 2sc,
(2sc, inc)*2 (28)
Round 5: 28sc (28)

Align the beginning of the round to the middle of bottom of

the muzzle. Work as many stitches as you need. I worked 6sc.

Change the color to the orange one.

Rounds 6-8: 28sc (3 rounds) (28)

Again align the beginning of the round to the middle of bottom
of the muzzle. Work as many stitches as you need (I didn’t
need).

Change the color to the white one.

Round 9: 8sc, 12inc, 8sc (40)

Round 10: 40sc (40)

Round 11: (inc, 9sc)*4 (44)

Round 12: (5sc, inc, 5sc)*4 (48)

If you use safety eyes, put them now. I placed the eyes
between orange and white rounds so that the distance
between them is 8-9 orange stitches.

Stuff the head while crocheting.

Ears (2 pieces)
Crochet with white yarn.

Work 5 ch and start crocheting from the 2-nd stitch

from the hook:

Round 1: 3sc, 3sc in the last ch, along the other

side of the chain: 2sc, inc (10)
Round 2: inc, 3sc, then work (sc, 2ch, sc) in one
stitch*, go on the round: 3sc, inc, sl st

*(sc, 2ch, sc) in one stitch - it means, that you work

2sc in one making 2ch between them, that’s the ear
tip.
Cut off yarn leaving a long tail for sewing.

Make two pieces.

Tail
Join red and white yarn tails where the tail will be situated. And tie a few knots or
make a pigtail. Cut yarn ends. The tail is ready.

Assembly and decoration

Pin the head to the body. Place the head symmetrically and tilt the muzzle down (look at the
photo below). Then sew the head with the yarn tail which you left while crocheting the body.

Pin the ears to the head in desired position, slightly bending the ear base . Then sew
them.

Glue or sew eyes. I placed the eyes between orange and white rounds so that the
distance between them is 8-9 orange stitches.

Embroider eyelashes and nostrils with black DMC floss (using 2-3 strands).

www.GurumiLandDesign.etsy.com 14
Rainbow Zebra @GurumiLand_design

Make the mane like «iroquois»)). Join yarn tails of all the colors along the mane line from
the forehead to the bottom of the head and neck (look at the photos below). I alternated
colors in reverse order, including white. Then trim the mane and shag threads with your
fingers.

www.GurumiLandDesign.etsy.com 15
Rainbow Zebra @GurumiLand_design

I have decided to make tightening for the eye sockets.

We will need orange yarn and a needle. Fix the yarn somewhere near the neck and bring the
needle out under the muzzle (where the head is attached to the neck). Then bring the
needle out from the inner corner of the first eye. Make a little stitch nearby (equal 1sc)
bringing the needle out under the muzzle again. Tighten yarn lightly to create a small
deepening near the eye.

Make another tightening for the second eye. Fasten and cut off yarn, hide yarn end.

Decorate the zebra with a beautiful bow.
