Character Development In Hugh Garner s The Father By

Hugh Garner utilizes character development of John Purcell to demonstrate that one s
irresponsible choices made have the ability to jeopardize an essential relationship in one

Because the father was so involved with himself, he did not make the time or put the
effort to develop a proper relationship with his son. It is hard to have a healthy
relationship with someone when they are controlled by alcohol. The relationship
between John Purcell and his son had drifted apart more and more by his actions and
his choice of being alcoholic. As inconsiderate as John he says to a curate Three dollars!
Why, I could have taken Johnny to a burlesque show for less than that. There is a little
boy present and their parents do not want their children exposed to such inappropriate
jokes like John often expressed. John is inconsiderate therefore he does things without

Music Is An Identifying Characteristic Of Film And Television
Music is an identifying characteristic of film and television; everyone who has been
exposed to popular culture knows the theme for Star Wars and The Simpsons, even if
they have never seen the movie or show. Disney movies are no exception, and this is
largely due to the genius creative mind of Alan Menken. Menken is best known for
composing the scores for some of the most beloved Disney classics, including Aladdin,
Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Hercules, Pocahontas, and Tangled. He also
made his mark composing for highly acclaimed Broadway musicals, including Little
Shop of Horrorsand Newsies, as well as the stage adaptations of some of his Disney
hits. The familiar songs composed by Menken are permanently ingrained in our minds
and are largely responsible for the success of the films and theatrical works he was
associated with. Alan Menkenwas born on July 22nd, 1949 in New York City. He grew
up in New Rochelle, New York with his sisters, Faye and Leah. Menken s family was
heavily involved in the performing arts, setting the stage for his career at a young age.
His mother, Judy Menken, was an aspiring actress and playwright; his father, Norman
Menken was a dentist but played boogie woogie and show tunes on the piano as a
hobby. Alan Menken aspired to be a composer from a young age, but the men in his
family typically became dentists and he felt that he was expected to continue this
tradition. However, he did learn to play the piano, violin, and guitar as he
The Oldest Jest by Jennifer Johnston
The Big Houses of The Old Jest and Good Behaviour were first of all, big physically, in
relation to the modest cottages...from the 18th century on, it was the center of wealth,
power, and influence. These Big Houses were normally inhabited by Ascendancy
families, Anglo Irish blood, and Anglican faith (Mortimer 209). In The Big House in
Ireland, Seán O Faoláin s statement towards the Ascendancy sums up the attitude of this
society Ireland was their country, Ireland was never their nation...they were far removed
from their fellow countrymen in political loyalty, religion, and education...their way of
life and social outlook seemed to belong to another world (Mortimer 209) and that world
was Great Britain. O Faoláin here describes how the characters in Good Behaviourlived
while in The Old Jest describes the characters living closer to the people in the village
and surrounding community. Keane and Johnston took radical opposite points of view in
writing about the decline of the Big House both bringing aspect of their personal lives

All these tsunamis however took lives of the people who lived or were visiting the
area at the time. In addition to the death that a tsunami causes, there are also other
effects. The towns or cities where the disasters took place are also affected. Many
structures are destroyed or damaged. Businesses may be destroyed. All these effects
make it difficult and slow for the areas to not only aid those that were hurt in the
tsunami but also to rebuild the towns and cities quickly. This has an effect on not only
the economy of the town but also on its people. They may feel like there is no hope as
they try to rebuild and start again. Besides the economic effects after a tsunami and its
mental effect on the people, there may also be environmental effects. The result of the
ocean coming on to land has a bad effect on fresh water supplies. The drinking water
may be affected. This alone may lead to diseases but also other health problems are
caused because of water left standing for long periods. The standing water may help
mosquitoes to develop and cause the spread of various diseases. The large number of
dead in certain areas may also cause problems as there is not enough room to place the
dead and the bodies are left out in the open until they can be buried. The effect of a
tsunami are can also be global as in the 2004 tsunami that hit many countries and killed

My Intellectual Identity Comes From My Love Of Having
New...
Intellectual My intellectual identity comes from my love of having new experiences
and exploring new cultures. I love challenging myself to learn new things. During high
school, a lot of classes were not intriguing and were boring to sit through. However, in
college I truly enjoy classes that challenge me intellectually. Some of my favorite classes
are psychologycourses because I get to really understand how and why people do the
things they do. I find learningabout people so interesting because it is seems like there
are never ending discoveries about how they work When I grew up, I was never a
huge reader and I wish I had been. When I get into a good book though I truly enjoy it
and can read very quickly. As a learner sometimes it takes me a little longer to
understand certain concepts and I need to re learn it multiple times. I am a visual
learner so a long article that is very complex is harder for me to understand. However,
I am always curious to learn about new topics and put myself out of my comfort zone.
I studied in Spain last spring, which was an experience where I was continuously
learning about a new cultures and lifestyles. I had to expand my use of the Spanish
language but also had to adapt certain parts of my lifestyle. My entire 4 months there
allowed me to further develop my eagerness for learning about cross cultural differences.
At times, I felt very unmotivated to get go learn new things about culture because I
would get caught up in my own life
