Tourism in Washington DC and London

Both Washington DC and London are important capitals of two important English speaking
countries, however they offer different types of experiences for any tourist looking for fun. The
contrast between these two regarding culture, history can show the similarities and differences
between them.
Both cities are rich in worldwide and national history, they did developed in different times, for
example London has a history that comes from more than two thousand years. It was part of the
Roman Empire and known by a different name, Londinium.
On the other hand Washington comes formally to life in the XVIII century. Even when native
Americans lived in the lands since XVI century, the city became the United States capital not
until decade of 1790.
From that time until today, Washington DC had a big influence worldwide, and beside these two
cities have different histories they both had and continue having social influence in economy and
culture.
In a cultural level London has a large amount of museums that guard very important treasures
from the world, also Washington has the National Gallery of Art and some more from the
Smithsonian and we can agree that London has a significant advantage on this category. Art in
London is one of the best in the world, this is related to the Great Britain in comparison to the
United States.
Making a comparison between the ways of transportation in these two cities there is a difference
between them that can be very beneficial for tourists, Washington DC, is a very eco friendly city
that encourages bicycles rides in a very affordable price and also is a walkable city, in
comparison to London which has taxis, buses and not too many bicycle rides.
London has a richer past than Washington DC and related to this there is so much more material
to organize. Theaters are richer in London than Washington DC, since there is a different mind
and way of enjoying culture.
Regarding air quality we could say London has a poor air quality when we compare to
Washington DC, on the other side Washington DC has numerous parks and pure air areas to
enjoy the life with good air quality.
Moving to different states comes easy from Washington DC, you can move easily using train to
different cities, in London for going to the seaside is pretty hard to, the trains can suffer strikes
and several stops which make it harder for people to enjoy a really nice tourism, imagine you
have an agenda and this strikes mess it up.
On a study made in versus website you can see a clear comparison between this two cities, we
can see very bad reviews regarding security in London, is not recommended to be outside in the
night because of different gangs and drug dealers, and it can be said that of course there are
drugs in the whole world but London can be one of the cities that drug dealing is way to high,
also prostitution and crime is pretty elevated in comparison to Washington DC.
It can also be said London is one of the cities with a big ratio of racism.
There is something in which London is up in the charts, and I would say as a personal opinion
that one big piece of information that can make a difference, public sanitary assistance is totally
free in London in comparison to Washington DC and it’s important to notice that US has one of
the most expensive sanitary assistance in the world. So this piece is a big win for London.
In activities we can say they are pretty similar for example in Washington there are so many
attractions that a tourist can enjoy, for example you can get a tour on the US Capitol house of
the US legislature. You can also take time to enjoy the Lincoln Memorial, Washington can also
offer one of the most important museums the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, very
popular and known this days for its aircrafts and rockets.
You can take a time to enjoy a visit to the White House which of course is the house of the
presidential family and a very emblematic place in the US. You can also go hiking for
Washington mountains which you can not find in London.
Of course London also has several activities that can be enjoyed by everybody, the London Eye
is one of them were you can enjoy a very nice and talk view of the whole city, and if you are a
fan of Harry Potter there is a very nice tour since as a reminder is a city we’re the movie was
filmed, you can also take a time to enjoy a visit of the Windsor castle which carry a lot of history
for London. There is also the Big Ben a very emblematic place in London and it’s an UNESCO
world heritage site, is amazing not to miss any of those. There is also an option to take a guided
tour on the Buckingham Palace the home of British Monarchs, there are also several markets that
are very nice and enjoyable.
In conclusion I would never recommend one place over the other and of course they have so
many differences but that is what make them great tourist opportunities, London has very good
benefits and also cons as an example the poor air condition, but still makes it a very nice place to
enjoy for some days, and Washington is also a very nice place to enjoy we’re public
transportation is easier and have very clean streets and parks, both places have nice attractions
and it’s something worth the travel, highly recommend them as cities.
