In the piece, If I Forget Thee, Oh Earth the author talks about a world where our very
own birthright, the Earth, is taken from us and we are forced to live on a lunar colony
because those before us were too selfish to take care of what they had. In the piece,
from Silent Spring the author talks to us about a little town where the birds are always
singing, the fields are always prosperous, and where people come from all around just to
hear the songs of all the birds. Then in a mere moment, misfortune after misfortune falls
upon this town and it becomes ruined, unlivable. Both of these pieces share a common
theme of predicting that the Earth will suffer from human destruction. In If I Forget Thee,

Abiotic Conditions
A study to investigate how abiotic conditions at different tidal heights affect biodiversity
at Cranberry Cove, NS.

Abstract
The intertidal zone has stressful and fluctuating abiotic conditions, making it harder for
species to survive in the environment. It is important to study the intertidal zone as it can
help to understand how the ocean is being affected by climate change (Gutowsky 2016).
This study was conducted at Cranberry Cove, NS, to investigate how abiotic conditions
at different tidal heights affect invertebrate and macroalgae diversity. A 20x20cm
quadrant was used to measure species richness and diversity at upper and mid intertidal
zones. A LabQuest2 was used to measure temperature and salinity ... Show more content

Some species were found in both areas, but others were only found in either the mid
pool or upper pool areas. The invertebrate species common to both mid and upper pool
areas were dog whelk, green crab, smooth periwinkle, blue mussels, rough periwinkle,
isopod, common periwinkle and acorn barnacle. Cladophora rupestris, Corallina
officinalis, Pilayella, Chaetomorpha melagonium were the macroalgae species that both
the upper and mid pool areas contained. The mid pool area has more biodiversity in
regards to both invertebrate and macroaglae species (Figure 1 and Figure 2).
The common periwinkle was the most common invertebrate species for the upper pool
area, and that acorn barnacle was the most common invertebrate species for the mid
pool area (Figure 1). The Ulva linza is the most common macroalgae species for the
upper pool areas, and Fucus distichus is the most common for macroalgae specie
(Figure 2). The upper pool area had the highest temperatures on average (Table 1).
However, the water salinity was higher in the mid pool area. Upper poolMid
Analyzing Frankenstein
The formalist method of literary criticism is primarily focused on the text itself, rather
than external topics such as history and background, the author s biographical
information, or the social contexts which surround a piece of work. In the formalist
perspective, we ask ourselves, why did the author choose to write his or her work in
this specific style? Why did he or she choose to include certain literary elements? What
matters most to the formalist critic is how the work comes to mean what it does how its
resources of language are deployed by the writer to convey meaning (DiYanni 2076). A
reader can employ the formalist method to decipher many meanings in Mary Shelley s
classic text Frankenstein. Shelley uses setting,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Walton s second letter introduces the idea of loss and loneliness, as Walton complains
that he has no friends with whom to share his triumphs and failures, no sensitive ear to
listen to his dreams and ambitions. Walton turns to Victor as the friend he has always
wanted. His search for companionship parallels the monster s desire for a mate later in
the novel. But I have one want which I have never been yet to satisfy...I have no friend,
Margaret: when I am glowing with the enthusiasm of success, there will be none to
participate my joy; if I am assailed by disappointment, no one will endeavour to sustain
me in dejection...I desire the company of a man who could sympathize with me, whose
eyes would reply to mine. (page 18). This similarity between man and monster becomes
clearer as the novel progresses. It suggests that the two may not be as different as they
seem. Framing helps the reader find the interrelation among the characters and come up
with observations that would be concealed in other circumstances. The framing technique
also makes the story more compelling because Walton will eventually see the monster at
the end of the novel. The story about the creature would just be a story, if not for Walton
s personal encounter with Frankenstein and his creation. Shelley uses Walton and the
framing perspective to add validity to the novel.

Preventing Teenagers from Trouble
There have long been debates by parents and teenagers on whether or not there are
benefits for establishing a curfew. A curfew is a designated hour that requires people to
remain indoors. Curfews are typically set in place by parents for their teenagers to return
home at a certain time at night. There are a numerous amount of compelling arguments
that support each side of the idea about curfews. Although there are many arguments that
can be made, there are a number of positive factors that lead to the belief that curfews
should be implemented in a household atmosphere. An important feature of a teenager s
curfew is family time. Spending time with family is essential for maintaining the
relationships within the household. During the school week, teens tend to carry busy
schedules with schoolwork and extracurricular activities. When the weekend approaches,
teenagers prefer to spend as much time with their friends as possible. When parents set a
curfew for their teenagers, this enables the option for families to spend time together. If
teenagers are spending time with their families instead of dealing with modern day
temptations, the time restriction is keeping them out of trouble. If teenagers are spending
more time at home, this gives the parents the ability to monitor what activities their
children are participating in. Curfews set healthy guidelines that allow teenagers to have
time with their friends but also quality time with loved ones at home. Another positive

Taking a Look at Heavy Metals
Heavy metals are elements that exhibit metallic properties. It mainly includes the
transition metals, basic metals, some metalloids, lanthanides, and actinides. Many
different definitions have been proposed some based on density, some on atomic number
or atomic weight, and some on chemical properties or toxicity (Duffus, 2002). Example
for some heavy metalare iron(Fe), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), mercury (Hg),
cadmium (Cd) etc.

Iron is important as a mineral in human body (part of haemoglobin) and also part of
many enzymes and proteins. Deficient amount of iron in human body will cause anaemia
while excess amount of iron may cause iron poisoning or hemochromatosis. Zinc is a
metal which known as essential trace element as very little amount of it is necessary for
human health. Zinc is important for cellular metabolism, catalytic activity of enzyme,
immune system, synthesis of protein, wound healing, cell division and DNA synthesis
(Sandstead, 1994; Solomons, 1998; Prasad, 1995). However, excess amount of zinc may
lead to remarkable health problems such as depressed immune system, stomach cramp,
vomiting, nausea and anaemia and skin irritation.

Cadmium (II) ions are known of its toxicity in trace amount may result in poor health
effect. Cadmium can be found easily in contaminated food or water. Workers of metal
refining or smelting factory or cadmium product manufacturing have a high possibility to
be exposed to cadmium. Long term exposure of cadmium lead to

Ethics and the Media Project Greys Anatomy
Dilemma
For this Media Project, I chose to watch an episode of a Grey s Anatomy that contains
a medical ethics dilemma. I watched Season 2 of Grey s Anatomy, Episode 23 Blues
for Sister Someone. In this episode, a woman asks Dr. Addison Shepherd to
clandestinely tie her fallopian tubes (tubal ligation) while she gives birth to her 7th
child through C section. She does not wish to have any more children (seven is already
a huge burden), but her devout Catholic husband does not allow birth control. Hence,
she pleads Addison to help end her childbearing abilities (tying her tubes would be
permanent birth control). She begs Dr. Shepherd to do the surgery in private so here is
no medical record ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One Perspective The perspective of the wife is that she has autonomy over her body and
has the right to decide whether or not she wants to continue having children. She
already is exhausted from her current six children; she has gone to the hospital from
dehydration and exhaustion from forgetting to drink water for 3 days because she was
so busy taking care of her kids. With the birth of this seventh child, she has had enough.
She does not want to bear any more children. She believes that God will understand her
situation and her reasons for choosing and that she will be forgiven for giving up her
fertility.
Other Perspective On the other hand, her husband Chris is a devout Catholic that
follows everything that his religion insists. The Pope says that birth control is not
allowed, so he is against letting his wife take birth control. To a Catholic, they live to
reproduce; hence you are not supposed to use any form of contraception as a Catholic.
Tying tubes is viewed as a form of contraception. It s also important to consider the
perspectives of the physicians involved with the decision making process in this
dilemma. From the perspective of Dr. Shephard, the patient is her sole obligation and
helping a patient get what they wish is important. On the other hand, her associate Alex
Karev is against tying the woman s tubes. He
