The Comedy of Hamlet
The Comedy of Hamlet
Shakespearean plays are often known for their outstanding entertainment and classic
comic conflict. In his masterwork, Hamlet, Shakespeare uses these aspects to serve his
thematic purpose. He has used comedy throughout many of his historic plays, but in this
play, comedy is the drawing point that makes it fun and entertaining, yet clear and
intuitive. Generally, his tragedies are not seen as comical, but in reality, they are full of
humor. However, these comic elements don t simply serve to relieve tension; they have
much significance to the play itself. The characters of Hamlet, Polonius, Osric, and the
Gravediggers, prove to be very influential characters, and throughout the play, they are the

Osric s role during the play was to enlighten the intensity in the room and use humor to
create a positive atmosphere. As courtier to the king, Osric was not necessarily one of
the most influential characters, but he did play an important role as a servant and
braggart soldier (Draudt, 2002). His character allowed a more powerful character
(Hamlet), to not only make fun of [his] diction, but also deliberately baffle and confuse
[him] and thus expose [his] slow wits (Draudt, 2002). Throughout Act V, Osric isn t
usually the one to offer the humor, but the humor is revolved around him. This type of
comedy reflects the meaning of his social class, and as Hamlet ridicules him, it only
weakens his reputation. Nonetheless, Hamlet uses this humor to poke fun at Osric and
is therefore viewed as comedy. The importance of this action is to show the ignorance
of Osric s character and how easily he can be manipulated by his fellow men and because
it highlights his function in society and his class rank.
In addition to being mocked, Osric also serves as [a] foil to the hero (Hamlet),
contrasting with [his] genuine wit... [and] honesty (Draudt, 2002). As a foil, Osric is the
complete opposite of Hamlet, and that can be seen by the way Hamlet treats Osric. This
reveals to the audience the differences
Factors That Influence Rainfall in the United States
Factors that Influence Rainfall in the United States
A type of precipitation is rainfall and it develops when water vapor condenses into
droplets in the atmosphere thus becoming too heavy to stay suspended in the air so
gravity causes them to fall. The pattern or occurrence of rainfall in the United States or
basically anywhere in the world depends on several factors such as ground elevation,
wind directions, location within a continental mass, areas of low pressure, cool fronts, jet
streams and even mountain ranges. For instance mountains have an influence on wind
and wind is an important feature in rainfall, The windward sides of mountainous islands
in the trade wind regime are among the rainiest places on earth, where rains exceed ...

When the pressure is high it means that the air s pressure is higher than the pressure of
the surrounding air in the area. A low is where it is lower. This means that where the
air is slowly descending the pressure is high and vice versa. So, as air descends, it
warms, which inhibits the formation of clouds. This means that the air that descends
in high pressure area has to get to high altitudes in some way which is why air actually
rises in low pressure areas. Winds tend to blow into low pressure areas because are
moves from higher pressure areas into lower pressure areas. When the wind moves into
a low area the air moves up and eventually cools and rainfall comes about. Also the low
pressure that causes the air to rise has to do with the Criolis Effect, which is the force
caused by the Earth s spin that redirects moving air to the right in the Northern
Hemisphere and to the left in the Southern Hemisphere. According to meteorologist Tony
Pann, who works with Coriolis Effect stated, With the Coriolis effect, air circulates in
patterns that depend on latitude. At the mid latitudes of the USA, most weather systems
move from west to east. However, systems tend to move from east to west near the
poles and in the tropic (Pann). The upslope flow is also related low pressure areas which
is basically the result of air rising and cooling while being forced to ascend to higher
terrain.
Ethical Issues Of Legalizing Marijuana
The legalization of cannabis, much better known as marijuana, is one of the most
controversially discussed issues in our country today. Marijuana has many specific
medical benefits and is a better alternative to other medications already permitted for
medical use. In 2012, two states legalized marijuana for recreational use. An additional
18 states, plus the District of Columbia, had already legalized medical marijuana. Even
though marijuana is still illegal at the Federal level, President Barack Obama said very
clearly that his administration will not seek to enforce the law in states that have deemed
cannabislegal. Currently, marijuana is classified as a Schedule I substance by the Food
and Drug Administration (FDA). A Schedule I status... Show more content on

Producers and sellers are unlicensed and completely unregulated. Unlike licensed
businesses that sell liquor or tobacco, marijuana sellers operate virtually anywhere and
have no incentive not to sell to children or teens. Prohibition guarantees that marijuana
will not be inspected for purity or labeled for potency, and ensures that the only people
selling marijuana will be criminals. Our current laws do not control marijuana, but they
do ensure that 100% of the profits from marijuana sales remain in the hands of criminals
and gangs. Also, those people who are concerned with the potency of marijuana should
support regulation. Producers of wine, beer,
