explanationof assertion (A).
b) Both assertion (A) and reason (R) are true but reason (R) is not the correct
explanation of assertion (A)
c) Assertion (A) is true but Reason(R) is false.

19. Assertion: the mean of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, …...,97, 99 is 50
Reason: 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + ………...+ (2n – 1) = n2.
20. Assertion: A tangent to a circle is perpendicular to the radius through the point
of contact.
Reason: The length of tangents drawn from an external point to a circle are
equal.
SECTION – B (5 × 2 = 10 MARKS)
21. Find the HCF of 96 and 404 by the prime factorisation method. Hence, find
their LCM.
22. Using Theorem 6.1, prove that a line drawn through the mid-point of one side
of a triangle parallel to another side bisects the third side.
23. A tower stands vertically on the ground. From a point on the ground, which is
15 m away from the foot of the tower, the angle of elevation of the top of the
tower is found to be 60°. Find the height of the tower.
24. Two tangents TP and TQ are drawn to a circle with centre O from an external
point T. Prove that PTQ = 2 OPQ.
25. The length of a tangent from a point A at distance 5 cm from the centre of the
circle is 4 cm. Find the radius of the circle.
SECTION – C (𝟔 × 𝟑 = 𝟏𝟖 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐊𝐒)
26. Prove that 3 + 2√5 is irrational.
27. Find the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial 6𝑥 2 − 7𝑥 − 24, and verify the
relationship between the zeroes and the coefficients.

28. A fraction becomes 11 , if 2 is added to both the numerator and the
denominator. If, 3 is added to both the numerator and the denominator it
5
becomes , find the fraction.
6
(Or)
Solve 2x + 3y = 11 and 2x – 4y = – 24 and hence find the value of ‘m’ for which
y = mx + 3.
tan 𝐴 cot 𝐴
29. Prove that: + = 1 + sec 𝐴 cosec 𝐴
1 − cot 𝐴 1 − tan 𝐴
(Or)
cos 𝐴 1+sin 𝐴
Prove that: 1+ sin 𝐴 + cos 𝐴 = 2 sec 𝐴
30. Prove that the parallelogram circumscribing a circle is a rhombus.
31. A box contains 90 discs which are numbered from 1 to 90. If one disc is drawn
at random from the box, find the probability that it bears
i. A two-digit number.
ii. A perfect square-number.

32. Prove that, if a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle to intersect the
other two sides in distinct points, the other two sides are divided in the same
ratio.

33. A train travels a distance of 960 km at a uniform speed. If the speed had been
12 km/h less, then it would have taken 4 hours more to cover the same
distance. Find the uniform speed of the train.
34. Shanta runs an industry in a shed which is in the shape of a cuboid
surmounted by a half cylinder. If the base of the shed is of dimension 7 m × 15
m, and the height of the cuboidal portion is 8 m, find the volume of air that the
shed can hold. Further, suppose the machinery in the shed occupies a total
space of 300 m3, and there are 20 workers, each of whom occupy about 0.08
22
m3 space on an average. Then, how much air is in the shed? (Take = 7 )
