Brief Summary of Course Content

At AS Level candidates develop an understanding of what a business is, what it wants to


achieve, and who is involved. Candidates develop the vocabulary to understand how a business
operates and learn how to analyze what the business does. Key areas include business and its
environment, human resource management, marketing, operations management, finance and
accounting,

Business Concepts 1 component of the AS Level Business includes short answer questions
and one essay from a choice of two.

Business Concepts 2 component of the AS Level Business includes two data respinse
questions with six parts each.

The content of the AS Level is assumed knowledge for the assessment of Paper 3 and Paper 4.
The A Level topics build on the learning acquired in the AS Level topics. The content taught to
candidates in the A Level syllabus is an advanced version of the AS Level Syllabus with the key
areas remaining similar but different content being taught.

Business Decision-Making component of the A Level Business includes five compulsory


questions. The first two questions are worth 8 marks each. Question 3 and Question 4 are worth
16 marks each. Question 5 is worth 12 marks.

Business Strategy component of the A Level Business includes a case study, which
includes information in written, numerical, and diagrammatic form. Candidates need to answer
the questions using relevant and appropriate information from the stimulus text to support their
answers. Both questions are essay questions.
