The document provides feedback from multiple customers on a gear monitoring system called Notus. The customers highlight benefits like increased catch, decreased costs from improved efficiency, complete visibility of gear performance, and issues being detected immediately. One feedback example describes how Notus detected a problem with uneven door spread that revealed a broken chain upon hauling up. The system is said to greatly improve fishing performance and pay for itself over time.

CUSTOMER FEEDBACK
•The benefits of the system are
proven time and time again.
•Keeping gear finely tuned increases
catch.
•All parameters of the gear are
monitored at all times - giving you peace of mind.
•Time wasted towing due to broken
bridles and chains is a thing of the past as this is picked up immediately.
•Monitor your gear if it starts to mud
up as the spread decreases and speed reduces. No more speeding up and towing nets that are under spread due to mud. CUSTOMER FEEDBACK • “No more guess work.
• Complete control of my gear.
• Improved fishing performance
consistently achieved.
• Decreased fuel costs by towing
at optimal spread.
• Investment well justified.
• I would not leave the harbour
without it.
• A vital tool for any twin rigger.”
CUSTOMER FEEDBACK CUSTOMER FEEDBACK • “Know exactly what is happening at all times. • The trawl master has greatly increased our fishing performance and reduced our fuel costs as we are now towing at optimal spread with less R.P.M and engine load. • The information received from the Notus system is very accurate and vital to twin rig. • Last trip when towing at twin rig, Notus displayed a problem with one of the doors - no door spread and no wire length. After hauling up we found that the chain at the back of the door was broken. The system picks up any change immediately. • The system pays for itself time and time again.” SH 65 NOTUS ONBOARD SH 65 AT SEA System losing door spread occasionally was a common complaint. This was resolved by relocating the sensor sleeves on the clump and protecting the sensors with rubbers (supplied). When towing, warps were measured by a Marelec system, Notus continually displayed one wire a metre out in length. I requested that the wires should be evened up to equal lengths. After doing this we calculated the middle wire adjustment and made the recommended alterations. Immediately the door spread increased. The overall spread was still not satisfactory for the skipper. After heaving up the gear, I altered the towing angle on the doors at the front end. During towing on the next haul we achieved optimal spread on each net. This resulted in equal catch in both nets. The alterations ensured the gear was finely tuned resulting in - stable doors, the clump positioned in line with the doors, achieving equal spread on each net at the perfect door spread for the gear.
