This program provides hands-on training in the principles and design of computer-based distribution or MacPhail School of Energy
process control systems (DCS/PCS). Review of input measurement devices and output control devices 403.284.8881
is necessary as these devices are used for operation of the level process skids/carts. Device networks [email protected]
(Foundation Field Bus, Device Net, Modbus, etc.) are also covered to ensure students have the skills

The program offers theoretical and practical training primarily based on an Emerson’s Delta V control
system wired to real process equipment. Labs include building all the logic and graphics for proper
operation and tuning of the flow and level loops on the process skids/carts. Each student uses their own
configuration/operator workstation to develop configuration and graphics.
Upon completion of the program, students can pursue a career in various industries that monitor and
control processing facilities such as power plants, pulp mills, oil producing and refining plants and chemical
processing plants.
Prerequisite for CNTR115 is CNTR252 – Instrumentation and Control but you may have the prerequisite
waived depending on your knowledge in electrical or instrumentation, through such backgrounds as
