Reflective Questions

1. Why do you think the society readily accepts the benefits of science and technology even
though negative results also come out from them? 5 points
There are many possible reasons why society accepts the benefits of science and
technology despite the negative consequences that may arise from them. Such as Science and
technology have improved the quality of life for many people around the world. They have
provided us with better health care, education, communication, entertainment, transportation,
and more.

2. How is science and technology affecting the growth of a nation? 5 points

Science and technology are affecting the growth of a nation in many ways. Such as
Healthcare and education enhancement: Science and technology can improve the health and
well-being of the population by providing better diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of
diseases, as well as improving nutrition and sanitation. They can also improve the access and
quality of education by providing more and diverse learning opportunities, such as online
courses, digital libraries, and interactive media.

Exercise 1. Reflection Task (Create a Collage 20 points)
Instructions: On the space below, paste a magazine, newspaper cut-out or digital image from the
internet of any photograph that depicts an issue or problem in science and technology.

1. What is the issue or problem depicted in the photograph?

The photograph highlighted an issue that has been one of the most serious threats
in the recent years which is climate change. It is represented inside an hourglass which serves
as a reminder that time is rapidly running out and the species are on the verge of extinction. It
is only a matter of time before the man-made infrastructures will take over the earth and Mother
Nature will extinct.
2. How does this particular issue or problem impact the well-being of humans today?

2
Warming temperatures, changes in precipitation, increased frequency, or intensity of some
extreme weather events such as floods, droughts, and storms and rising sea levels
are all effects of climate change. These effects of climate change will alter the food we eat,
water we drink, air we breathe and weather we experience. Our health will be jeopardized if
this happens.
3. Why is it important for people to study and learn about STS as academic field, especially in
addressing the issue or problem depicted in the photograph?
Science is synonymous with knowledge, expertise, and awareness. The term
"technology “refers to the application of science. If these two are used together to complete
work, a very effective and good result will be obtained That is why learning STS is important
because science allows us to see and understand the situation we are currently facing and it
gives us knowledge on how to solve problems effectively and accurately.
