Disclaimer
The use of any Rogan-Delft product is subject to all terms and conditions as stated in the governing
software license agreement and in Rogan-Delft's general conditions of sale. By using the product the
operator certifies that he or she has read and understood the license agreement, viz. the conditions
of sale, and that he or she accepts all liabilities as defined in these documents.

By their nature, Rogan-Delft products are used for storage (archiving), retrieval, viewing and analysis
of medical information, such as patient images (e.g. X-ray, CT, MRI, PET, Ultrasound etcetera),
related patient demographics and other relevant clinical data. This medical information is usually
imported into the Rogan-Delft product from third party supplied systems. Most commonly the
transfer of medical information is based on DICOM-3 as a communication protocol and data format.
If so, the correctness and consistency of the imported DICOM image and DICOM header information
is the sole responsibility of the third party vendor and the user is supposed to verify the correctness
and consistency of this information prior to using it on a Rogan-Delft product. Sometimes alternative
ways must be used to import images, such as digitizing a video signal or a hardcopy film. In that case
it is the responsibility of the user to ensure that the information that is added to these images is
correct and consistent.

Federal (U.S.) and State laws restrict the sale of this product to a physician or on a physician's order.
Only individuals authorized to perform radiological diagnostic functions and appropriately trained in
radiological diagnostic techniques should use this software. Carefully read all instructions prior to
use. The physician is responsible for its proper clinical use and the resulting medical diagnosis.

Rogan-Delft declines all liability for the use and consequences of incorrect, conflicting or
misleading medical information that was imported from third party systems or that was added by
the user. When feasible Rogan-Delft may provide technical means to facilitate a check on the
correctness and consistency of imported data, but that does not waive the user's responsibilities
as stated in this section. These technical means may consist of software tools, warning messages
and notes in the graphical user interface and/or directives in the relevant sections of the user
manual.

1.3 About This Manual

It is recommended that users of the system familiarize themselves the use of the software and
related hardware such as computers, scanners etc. It is not required for the use of the software to

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 9 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

have extended knowledge of the underlying operating system (Microsoft Windows XP an Vista), but
some knowledge about it is certainly useful.

The operating system’s security aspect should be used to make the use of the system by unqualified
users impossible. Restrictions in the continuous use of computer displays may be applicable.
National guidelines must be followed.

This Reference Manual is intended to help Users. It is not intended as a specification book and no
rights whatsoever can be derived from it. Detailed technical descriptions and configuration of View
Pro-X can be found in the Service Manual.

Furthermore the possibility exists to be trained in the usage of View Pro-X by Rogan certified
application engineers.

1.4 Terminology
This manual contains specific terminology. For explanation of these words, see chapter 10.1
Appendix A: Terminology.

1.5 Operating Instructions

Rogan View Pro-X, the viewing software of Zillion PACS by Rogan is operated through its Graphical
User Interface (GUI) by means of the mouse and the keyboard. It is possible to integrate View Pro-X
software with speech recognition systems.

Note, all users are supposed to have read this manual before using View Pro-X.
In this manual the phrase, ‘left clicking,’ means positioning the mouse cursor with your pointing
device over an area on the screen and then clicking the Left Mouse Button (lmb). When just ‘clicking’
is mentioned in the manual, it means left clicking. ‘Left-click’ a GUI element typically selects an
object; ‘double-clicking’ (two quick left-clicks) stands for executing an action, whereas ‘right-click’
typically will display a menu of applicable options (a context menu). ‘Pressing a button,’ means left-
click it.

Only viewing images in 1:1 display guarantees that the images are displayed in their true
resolution (please refer to chapter 4.8.1 for further details).

Note, View Pro-X has been thoroughly tested and is supposed to operate continuously. If however
an unexpected event occurs View Pro-X will warn the users and will stop operating to prevent
incorrect operation leading to possible mistakes.

2 Getting started
2.1 Starting View Pro-X
If View Pro-X did not start automatically when turning on your computer,
you will find an icon on the desktop that you will have to double-click.
It is also possible to start View Pro-X via the Windows taskbar:
‘Start’  ‘Programs’  ‘Rogan’  ‘View Pro-X’.

Rogan View Pro-X will first check that the software license on your computer is valid. If this license is
invalid you will be informed and can only use View Pro-X as a DICOM-DIR viewer.
When you log on for the first time, a dialog box will be shown in which you are asked if you agree
with the terms and conditions as stated in the governing software license agreement, and in Rogan-
Delft's general conditions of sale. If you agree, you can press on the ‘Accept’ button. If you do not
want to see the disclaimer in the future, you can check the box ‘I have read the disclaimer and
understood its contents and do not want to see it again.’

Of course, if you do not agree, you can press the ‘Cancel’ button and View Pro-X will close.

2.2 Graphical User Interface
View Pro–X follows the Graphical User Interface design style of the Windows Operating System and
has a great number of features and capabilities. The features are bundled in logical groups.

Rogan View Pro-X has two main viewing windows: the Work list Viewer that can be activated by
pressing the ‘View Work list’ button and the Image Viewer that can be activated by pressing the
‘View Images’ button.

<- Image Viewer Work list Viewer ->

Both the Image Viewer and the Work list Viewer show different types of bars on the top or at the
bottom of your screen.

The Title Bar is an information bar at the top of your screen.

The Menu Bar gives access to various commands within View Pro-X by means of a drop down menu.

The Tool Bar displays various commands represented by buttons showing icons and text that can be
pressed to execute the command.

Figure 2-2: Title Bar, Menu Bar & Tool Bar

The status bar is an information bar at the bottom of your screen.

Figure 2-3: Status Bar

View Pro-X uses ‘Display Properties’ in Windows to determine the fonts used in different parts of the
application and the scaling of the application itself. Further details can be found in the Service
Manual.

2.3 Menu Bar

The Menu Bar contains all available commands within View Pro-X. These commands are context
sensitive, which means that menu bars can have different functionality available in the Image Viewer
compared to the Work list Viewer.

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 12 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

The available functionality in Menu Bar will be discussed step by step in chapter 3 and chapter 0.

The Work list Viewer displays a list of patients and studies. Which patients and studies are displayed
depends upon the chosen PACS Profile (See 2.4.4, Selecting Patients and Studies and 3.5 PACS
Profiles).

2.4 The Work list Viewer

2.4.1 Lay out and content
When selecting patients or studies in the Work list Viewer, the Hanging Protocols bar will change its
Hanging Protocols to the selection being made. The Hanging Protocols determine the sequence and
arrangement of images in the Image Viewer (See 3.6 Hanging Protocol).

View Pro-X has various taskbars. In Figure 2-4: Work list Viewer the Work list Viewer is displayed,
including the PACS Profile bar and the Hanging Protocols bar. These taskbars can be hidden by
clicking the in the right upper corner of the bar. This way every user can configure whether he
wants to see these bars or not.
The taskbars can be displayed via the menu ‘View’ and selecting ‘PACS Profile Bar’ or ‘Hanging
Protocols Bar’. Besides this, any toolbar, like the PACS Profile Bar and the Hanging Protocol Bar can
be docked in specific places in the screen, or placed as a floating window on top of the work list
viewer.

Figure 2-4: Work list Viewer

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 13 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

2.4.2 Work list Views
View Pro-X offers a variety of different Work list Views. To switch between the different Work list
Views choose ‘View’  ‘Work list Views’ in the menu bar.

It is possible to have a four-quadrant work list containing information on patient, studies, series and
image level as shown in Figure 2-5: PSSI View. The image window will show information on the
images of the selected Series. The Series window shows information of the series in the selected
Studies and the Studies window shows information of the studies of the selected patient.
It is not possible to select more than one patient at the same time.

Figure 2-5: PSSI View

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 14 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

The PSS view will show a triple-window work list containing information on Patient, studies and
series level as shown in Figure 2-6: PSS View giving more space for displaying large lists of patients.

Figure 2-6: PSS View

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 15 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

The third option is to configure the Work list Viewer to only show information on Patient and Studies
level as shown in Figure 2-7: PS View.

Figure 2-7: PS View

For all Work list Views it is possible to change the size of the separate lists to
your personal taste.

Move the mouse pointer to the list separator until the pointer changes to
horizontal, vertical arrows or both (see Figure 2-8: Changing

Figure 2-15 Select Pacs Profile

Now select a patient by clicking on the patient in the Patients Window. Only one patient can be
selected.

The most recent study of the selected patient will automatically be

selected. You can now choose to select multiple studies of this
patient.

Figure 2-16 Selected study

This can be accomplished in several ways.

Select multiple sequential studies by pressing Shift and using the Select multiple studies

2.5 The Image Viewer
The Image Viewer displays the images from the selected studies from the Work list Viewer.

The Image Viewer shows one or more view ports, depending on which Hanging Protocol has been
chosen. The Pictorial Index shows an index of loaded images in thumbnail size. The matched Hanging
Protocol Bar is shown on the right side of the screen in Figure 2-17: View Pro-X Image Viewer. In this
example, the PACS Profile Bar has been hidden.

Figure 2-17: View Pro-X Image Viewer

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 20 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

2.5.1 View Port Tiling
View port tiling is the ability to display multiple images of a series at the same time.
As can be seen in Figure 2-18 you can configure for example two view ports, each containing 2x2
tiles. The top-left tile of the view port on the left is currently selected.

Figure 2-18: View Port Tiling

Each view port tile will show a different image. If there are more tiles than images,
the remaining tiles will be left empty.

One view port can only contain images of one series. When another series is selected, all the tiles of
the view port will show images of the new series.

The view port tiles will show the images from the series in the ‘Image Sorting Order’ of the Hanging
Protocol configuration of the view port. Detailed information about the configuration of view port
tiling can be found in the Service Manual.

Navigating through tiled view ports works slightly different than when you have a normal view port
(chapter 4.9.1).

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 21 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

2.5.2 Image manipulation
View Pro-X contains multiple tools to alter the initial presentation of an image. These tools are
explained throughout the manual. For the modalities CT, MR, NM, US and XA the changes in zoom
factor, window level settings, orientation, showing of overlays, panning and inverting will be
synchronized throughout the series. For the other modalities changes will only apply to the selected
image.

Changing for instance the window level of one tile that is displaying a CT image will change the
window level for all the tiles.

2.6 Mouse behavior

2.6.1 Default behavior
Next to the default Windows mouse behavior, the mouse provides specific options for image
handling. These options are:

- Left mouse button click: Select (option, tool, image, patient etc).

- Left mouse button double click: Execute (image loading).

- Left mouse button click and hold down: Change window width and window level by
moving the mouse.

- Right mouse button double click: With the magnifying glass enabled results in an
inversion of the magnifying glass.

- Right mouse button click and hold down: Panning an image to adjust its location in the
View Port.

- Left and right mouse button click and hold down: Fast navigation through a stack of
images by moving the mouse.

- Mouse wheel up – down: navigate through a stack of images.

- Mouse wheel click up – down: Zoom in and out on mouse pointer.

In this manual the phrase, ‘left click,’ means positioning the mouse cursor with your pointing device
over an area on the screen and then click the Left Mouse Button (lmb). When just ‘clicking’ is
mentioned in the manual, it means left click. ‘Left-click’ a GUI element typically selects an object;
‘double-click’ (two quick left-clicks) stands for executing an action, whereas ‘right-click’ typically will
display a menu of applicable options (a context menu). ‘Pressing a button,’ means left-click it. The
user is assumed to have used a Microsoft Windows environment before.

If an exam needs to be diagnosed that recently has been sent to the archive, and it will not show up
in the work list, it is necessary to press the refresh button, or press the F5 button on your keyboard.

3.2.2 Start Preloading

Preloading enables the user to load the images of multiple patients at once and start viewing them
afterwards. This eliminates the waiting time for loading the images when the study is selected for
viewing. In order to use preloading the ‘select’ column has to be visible in work list (see chapter
2.4.3). The ‘select’ column is available on all information levels in the work list. The checkbox has to
be checked before initiating the preload command. You can start viewing images during preloading.
When a viewing command is executed preloading will stop. Once the images are shown to you in the
image viewer you can manually continue preloading by selecting the preload button again.

3.2.3 Cancel Loading

3.3.1 Select All
Within a study, series or image list in the work list, everything will be selected.
The patient list is limited to one selected patient.

3.3.2 Key Image Notes

The Key Image Notes profile of IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) describes the means to
mark the key images of a study and use them in additional workflows. For all described workflows a
Key Object is generated and added to the study. This object is visible as a KO object in the work list
and displayed in the Key Image Notes bar (see chapter 3.4.10)

Selecting this Key Object in the Key Image Notes bar will select the related images to the Key Image
Note. Choose a hanging protocol or the ‘View Image’ button to load the images into the image
viewer.

All functionalities mentioned in this paragraph use a common user interface

Figure 3-7: Add Comment, Add Report, Mark for Review, Mark for Teaching
The default values in the dialog are extracted from the selected image (The active image in the Work
list Viewer or the Image Viewer). The name of the report author is filled out automatically. The
document title describes the purpose for which this dialog is used. In the ‘Comments’ field, the
keyboard can be used to enter the comments. You can also use predefined comments or paste text
from the windows clipboard into the edit field.

The Document title and Comment can be predefined. Key Image navigation is available to navigate
over the available Key Images (see chapter 4.9). A dedicated viewport can be assigned to show only
the Key Images of a study.

Please refer to the service manual for detailed information on how configure document titles and
predefined comments and configuration of hanging protocols.

3.3.2.1 Add Comment

Selecting this option will display the ‘Add Comment’-dialog, which enables you to add comments to
the selected image. The Document title is fixe to ‘Comment’.

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 28 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

If the study that contains the ‘Comment’ matches the criteria of the Search Filter in the PACS Profile
a red dot is displayed in the ‘Modalities in Study’ column to indicate its availability. Comments apply
to a single image.

3.3.2.2 Review
The function ‘Mark for Review’ adds images to the Zillion Review application. The interface offers
you a choice to expand the selection. After confirming the selection the destination Review folder
can be chosen.

Figure 3-8: Expand selection

3.3.2.3 Teaching
The function ‘Mark for Teaching’ adds images to the Zillion Teaching application. The interface offers
you a choice to expand the selection. After confirming the selection the destination folder can be
chosen.

3.3.2.4 Add Report

Although not strictly part of the Key Image Notes this functionality uses the same interface. Reports
are created per study.

Report creation offers the option to select a ‘Document title’ to categorize the report. The Reports
will be stored in the same PACS archive as the selected image by pressing the OK button. The Report
appears in the work list on series level as SR modality (Structure Report)

Both document titles and comment can be predefined. Please refer to the service manual for
detailed information on how configure document titles and predefined reports.

If the study that contains the Structured Report matches the criteria of the Search Filter in the PACS
Profile a red dot is displayed in the ‘Modalities in Study’ column to indicate its availability.

3.3.3 Set Study to Diagnosed

An integrated speech recognition system can set the active study automatically to the status
diagnosed. If there is no integrated speech recognition system the selected study in the work-list (or
active view port when in the image viewer) can be set manually to the status diagnosed. This
command is enabled if the status of the active study is Diagnosed ‘No’.

3.3.4 Delete selected Images

Selected images can be deleted from a local DICOM archive. Images located on DICOMDIR archives
cannot be deleted.

During the deletion process, a progress bar will be visible to indicate the number of images deleted
against the number of all selected images. After all the images have been deleted, the work list will
be reloaded.

Deleted images are removed permanently!

3.4.1 View Images

If selecting ‘View’  ‘View Images’ from the Work list Viewer’s menu bar, the Image Viewer will
display the selected images. This command is also available under the right mouse button: after the
desired selection in the Work list Viewer, press the right mouse button and select ‘View Images’.

3.4.2 Previous Patient / Next Patient

Two buttons are added to support the workflow. Pressing either button will advance or go back one
patient in the work list.

The buttons can be found in the workflow toolbar of both the work list viewer and the image-viewer.
They can also be added to the user defined toolbar.

Previous and next patient buttons work on the currently loaded or

displayed work list. Changing the work list (for instance change the
PACS-profile) or the way the list was sorted will also change the previous Figure 3-10:
or next patient selection. The buttons will always show the patient in Previous / Next Patient
the image-viewer. So if you are in the work list viewer VPX will
automatically open the image-viewer to show the selected patient.

3.4.3 Intermediate patient

Intermediate Patient viewing allows the user to open a second instance of View Pro-X without losing
the setting made in the original instance. When the second instance is opened the first instance will
be hidden. The title bar on top of your screen will state Intermediate patient’ to underline that the

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 30 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

user is viewing an Intermediate patient. In order to return to the first instance of View Pro-X, close
the second instance by reselecting the intermediate patient function or exiting View Pro-X.

3.4.4 Add Patient

This command can be used to view additional images from another patient than the patient under
diagnosis, allowing the patients to be compared. It is only available when images are being viewed.

The ‘Add Patient’ command can be used as follows:

1 Invoke the ‘Add Patient’ command. ‘Add Patient’ mode will be turned on and a new work list
will be shown.

2 Select another PACS Profile if needed.

3 Select the images that you want to view in addition to the images that are currently
displayed.

4 Invoke the ‘View Images’ command or select a Hanging Protocol. ‘Add Patient’ mode will be
turned off and the selected images will be displayed together with the images that were
already displayed. The work list is restored to the state it had before the ‘Add Patient’
command was invoked.

5 This can be repeated multiple times if more than two patients need to be compared.

These commands cannot be executed in the Image Viewer when the active view port shows images
of an "added" patient (to compare with):

 Set study to 'diagnosed'.

 Start dictation.

 Adding / editing reports.

 Change study priority.

 Add comment

 Diagnostic workflow commands

These commands cannot be executed after patients have been added:

 QC commands.

 Copy to PACS archive

 Review

Changes of annotations / measurements / orientation / calibration done on images of an "added"

patient are not stored.

3.4.5 VIP Patients

If the user wants to see a work-list with VIP patients (among other patients), the first step is to log
on. During this process the archive will determine if the user is allowed to view VIP patients (see
Error! Reference source not found.).

To log on for VIP viewing select ‘VIP Patients’ from the ‘View’ menu in View Pro-X. A login dialog

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 31 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

appears. The login name is already available with the value of the user that is currently logged on in
Windows. However, it can be changed to the username of any user as long as it’s a valid username
from the (Windows) domain.

If the username or the password is invalid, the logon is denied. The same applies when the user is
not allowed to do VIP Viewing!

After a successful logon, the user can now do a regular query for a work-list, in the case that a user
can view VIPs, this work-list will also contain VIPs.

Select ‘VIP Patients’ from the ‘View’ menu again and confirm your choice or close View Pro-X, to
stop viewing VIPs.

Note, other users will be able to view VIPs, when a user logged on for VIP Viewing doesn’t log off or
close View Pro-X!

When you logoff the work-list will automatically refresh and the image viewers will clear themselves
to remove any information about VIPs.

3.4.6 View Reports

Besides showing the Structured Reports (SR) created within View Pro-X, View Pro-X will also show
Structured Reports created in other systems, if configured so by your PACS administrator. These
Reports can either be retrieved from the PACS archive or retrieved from the RIS. Structured Reports
are shown to you in the structured report viewer.

The availability of a Structured Report is shown in the series and image pane of the Work list. If the
study that contains the Structured Report matches the criteria of the Search Filter in the PACS Profile
a red dot is displayed in the ‘Modalities in Study’ column to indicate its availability. If the Structured
Reports are retrieved from the RIS then they are indicated as ‘External Report’ in the series- and
image description.

3.4.7 Work list Views

Work list Views contains 3 different types of Work list Viewers:

 Patient Studies Series View

 Patient Studies View

4.2 Query Toolbars

Query toolbars can be used to query the master archive for a Patient ID, Patient Name or Accession
Number. Immediately after executing the query, the images will be loaded and viewed, but only
when a patient has been found that matches the given user input.

The query toolbar can be made visible in the Work list Viewer and Image Viewer through menu
items ‘View’  ‘Toolbars’  ‘Query Patient ID’ and ‘View’  ‘Toolbars’  ‘Query Accession
Number’.

Searching with the Patient ID toolbar will automatically search for primary patient id and secondary
patient id or global patient id (when used).

Usage of these toolbars can also be done while they are hidden, through the default short cut key
combinations Ctrl-Alt-A (Accession Number) and Ctrl-Alt-P (Patient ID). Another option is to
customize the workflow toolbar so that a button for query toolbars is made visible. By using these
buttons or by using the short cut keys, the query toolbar is popped up floating and centered in either
the Work list viewer or the Image Viewer, whichever has the focus. After popping up, the query
toolbar will get the focus and a Patient ID or Accession Number can be typed in immediately. By
pressing the Enter key, the query is executed and the query toolbar will return to its previous state,
which may be docked or hidden. Pressing the Escape key will set the query toolbar to its previous
state, without executing a query.

Should a query fail in the sense that the expected patient is not found, check if the correct master
archive location is set.

4.3.8 Export to
4.3.8.1 PACS-Archive

The work list selection can be copied to another

archive location. At least two archive locations are
required in order to make a copy from the source
archive to the destination archive.

A dialog will appear asking you to select the

destination archive.

Figure 4-5: Select Destination

4.3.8.2 Media
‘Export to Media…’ writes the selected images from the work list or image viewer to a media. This
media can be a CD, a DVD or an arbitrary folder. If a device doesn’t support export, or the media
type in the device doesn’t support export, the export to it will not be possible. It is possible to export
multiple patients to the same media. First select the images of the first patient you want to export.
Then select the ‘Export to Media…’ option.

Figure 4-6: Export to media

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 43 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

Note, if no selection has been made in the work list the ‘Export to Media’ option is disabled (grey).

The dialog offers several options. By default an image viewer will be included on the media. This is a
copy of View Pro-X. This copy of View Pro-X will automatically start from the media so neither
installing the software nor obtaining a license is needed.

Select ‘Anonymize’ in order to alter the patient related information before exporting. Random data
is filled automatically after which this data can be altered manually. The ‘Anonymize’ feature
requires an additional license.

To add additional patients or studies to the export choose ‘Select’ in the dialog. When the new
selection has been made, choose the ‘Export to Media…’ option again and the newly selected images
will be added to the export. Repeat this procedure until all data has been added to the export.

Another way to export multiple patients is by enabling the ‘Select’ column in the work list. The
‘select’ column has to be visible in work list (see chapter 2.4.3). The ‘select’ column is available on all
information levels in the work list. Check the boxes before initiating the ‘Export to Media...’
command. Anonymized export is not possible when exporting patient data in this way.

Choosing ‘Cancel’ will cancel the export procedure. Choosing ‘Export’ will start the export.

When working with a Global Patient ID the institutions patient ID is automatically replaced with the
Global Patient ID.

4.3.8.2.1 Selecting the export device and media type

Visible in Figure 4-6 is a ‘Media Settings’ group. This group allows the user to change settings for the
device and media type to which the export will be done.

In the dropdown box device is a list of all optical devices that are found on the computer. In the
same list will always be the ‘Folder’ option which allows for export to a folder (for instance a storage
USB device).

The ‘Export’ button is disabled when one of the following conditions apply:

- The device is not capable of export (for instance a CD-ROM player)

- The media type that is currently in the device is not capable for export (for instance the
media type is already written on)
- The amount of information exceeds the capacity of the current media type (for instance a
CD can only hold 700 MB of information)

To remedy the disabled ‘Export’ button, you can either select a different device, or insert a media
type capable of recording. In order to detect a newly inserted medium, you must reselect the device
containing the medium. First insert the new media type in the device and wait a few seconds for the
device to detect it. Now reselect the device and see the updated media type.

4.3.8.2.2 Exporting
Press ‘Export’ to start the export. The ‘Export progress’ group will update the user on the progress.
You can’t continue working with View Pro-X during the export!

You can always export to a folder. None of the conditions above will apply.

Note, the export to folder will not show its progress and in case of large amounts of data copied to a
‘slow’ device like USB storage, View Pro-X can become unresponsive.

This can be ignored, allow the copy process to complete after which View Pro-X will continue to run.

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 44 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

4.3.8.3 Print
Select this menu item to print images.

4.3.8.3.1 Selecting images for printing

The same selection mechanism applies as in the Work list viewer. If an image is selected, it is marked
with a capital S in the top left corner of the view port.

- Clicking an image in a view port selects that image. It also removes the selection of all other
images that are displayed in that view port.

- Clicking an image while keeping the Control key pressed toggles the selection status of an
image.

- Clicking an image, while keeping the Shift key pressed, changes the selection to a range
between the previous selected image and the current selected image.

- Pressing the A key while keeping the Control key pressed selects all images in the current
view port.

The selection is frame-based. The user can select

multiple frames from a multi-frame image (a multi
frame image will appear as one image in the Work
list but contains a movie-like set of images).

The total number of selected frames is shown on the

status bar of each monitor that displays images.

4.3.8.3.2 Printing
The Print Dialog shows, underneath the layout
selection, three print modes.

Current Image:
Print the frame in the active view port.

1. Selected Images: Print the selected images

using the selected layout in a rectangular
distribution.
Only active if a selection has been made.
2. Monitor: Print the frames visible
in the view ports of
the active monitor in the same distribution.
If a selection has been made, the mode is preset to
'Selected Images'. Otherwise, the mode is preset to
'Current Image'.

Under the following circumstances the orientation Figure 4-7: Print dialog
will be changed during printing:

1. When 'current image' is selected and the image width is greater than the height (known as
'landscape').
2. When 'monitor' is selected and the view ports visible on the active monitor form a
rectangular area with a width that is greater than the height.

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 45 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

The page number, the name of the user and the workstation where the print was initiated are
printed on top of each page.

Calibrated size printing allows you to print images based on the calibration of the image.

This function is only supported when used with a DICOM printer that supports “Requested Image
Size”. When the image is too large to fit the film, a dialog will be shown to enter the alignment of the
image relative to the film.

4-8: Calibrated size printing

4.3.8.4 Publish Image

Although overlays are stored automatically, View Pro-X offers an alternative for when Rogan PACS
systems have to communicate with third party archives that do not support all the in View Pro-X
available annotations. When publishing an image, the image in the active view port is stored as a
new series besides the series the image originated from. After selecting the Publish Image command
the user can enter a series description (see Figure 4-10).

Publish Images provides two options for publishing an image. The Image can either be stored with
annotations as a separate overlay (removable modality overlay) or with the annotations burned into
the image. A published image is stored at the configured archive location. Please refer to the service
manual on how to configure the Publish Image settings.

Figure 4-10: Publish Image Series description

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 46 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

4.3.8.5 Movie
Series can be exported as a movie file to a certain location on the computer.

You can use different export formats if different codecs are installed on the workstation.

4.6.4 Edit Hanging Protocols

This menu option allows editing of hanging protocols. Please refer to the Service Manual for details.

4.6.5 Add View ports

This command adds extra view ports to an Image Viewer. The new view ports copy their settings
(which overlays are visible, how the images are sorted, etcetera) from the active view port. The view
ports are added either by increasing the number of view port rows or by increasing the number of
view port columns, depending on which of the two methods results in the squarest view ports. The
order of the view ports (when ordered in columns going from top to bottom, with columns ordered
from left to right) is preserved. View ports are added at the end. The default accelerator key for this
command is ‘INSERT’.

4.6.6 Remove View ports

This command removes view ports from an Image Viewer. The view ports are removed either by
decreasing the number of view port rows or by decreasing the number of view port columns,
depending on which of the two methods results in the most square view ports. The order of the view
ports (when ordered in columns going from top to bottom, with columns ordered from left to right)
is preserved. View ports are removed at the end. The default accelerator key for this command is
‘DELETE’.

4.6.7 1 X 1 View Ports

This command resets the image viewer to a one by one viewport. The image shown in this one by
one viewport, is the image shown by the active viewport before this command is issued. Choosing

Note, the ‘Annotation Overlay’ has to be switched on for all the commands in the Measure Menu
to be enabled.

Note, all measurements can be stored in the PACS archive and will be displayed whenever the
image is loaded from the archive and the ‘Annotations Overlay’ is enabled.

Note, View Pro-X will not display a unit symbol measurements on an image calibrated in
HyperView 4.x, the predecessor of View Pro-X. The reason for this is that HyperView does
not ask for the units when calibrating an image. View Pro-X measures in millimeters.
Recalibrating the image in View Pro-X will solve this.

4.8.12.1 Calibration
In order to perform an accurate measurement on an image, the image needs to be calibrated first,
so that it will be clear how many pixels of the image fit into a millimeter.

When this is known, accurate values can be shown for miscellaneous measurements on this image.
The calibration will be stored in the archive, so an image only needs to be calibrated once.

In order to calibrate an image, an object of known dimensions - a calibration object - is used as a

starting point for the calibration command: after the object is detected - manually or automatically -
the user enters the size of the calibration object in millimeters and the calibration value is stored
into the archive. Form this moment on all measurements values are computed based on this
calibration value.

Examples of calibration objects:

- A ruler photographed together with the patient.

- Metal backed cups of a hip prosthesis.

- Femoral head prosthesis.

4.8.12.1.1 Manual calibration

To manually calibrate an image use the following commands:

- ‘Calibrate Circle’ – the calibration is based on the manually detected circular calibration
object.

- ‘Calibrate’ – the calibration is based on the manually detected a segment.

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 58 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

4.8.12.1.2 Auto-calibrate Circle
Using the Auto-calibrate Circle command an image can be calibrated based on a circular calibration
object that is automatically detected.

To do this, the following steps have to be done:

 Select the Auto-calibrate Circle command.

 Left click on the centre of the calibration object.

 View Pro-X will automatically detect the calibration object.

 View Pro-X zooms in on the calibration object, allowing you to verify the correctness of the
calibration object detection.

 Enter the diameter of the calibration object in millimeters.

 Subsequent measurements will use this calibration.

Figure 4-29 Examples of circular calibration objects

4.8.12.1.3 Auto-calibrate Dome

Using the Auto-calibrate Dome command an image can be calibrated based on a “dome like”
calibration object that is automatically detected.

To do this, the following steps have to be done:

 Select the Auto Calibrate command.

4.8.19 Paired Image Processing Mode

This command will turn paired image processing mode on or off. When View Pro-X is in paired image
processing mode, the following image tools will work simultaneously on two view ports:
 Zoom In
 Zoom Out
 Set Zoom Factor
 1:1 Display
 Fit to Window
 Magnifying Glass
 Inverted Magnifying Glass
 Shutter
 Light Box
 Panning

Paired image processing is available when there are exactly two view ports.

Note, Paired image processing may not work as expected in the following situations:
 Situation 1 (when all of the following statements are true):

o Paired image processing is used to compare two mammography images of different

sizes.

o The alignment of one of the view ports (as specified by the hanging protocol
configuration) does not match the location of the breast in the image that it displays. For
example: the alignment of one of the view ports is left but the image it displays shows a
breast located on the right side of the image.

 Situation 2 (when all of the following statements are true):

o Paired image processing is used to compare two mammography images of the same
size.

o Both images show a breast located on the same side of the image

o The alignments of the two view ports (as specified by the hanging protocol
configuration) differ.

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 65 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

 Situation 3 (when all of the following statements are true):

o Paired image processing is used to compare two mammography images of the same size

o One image shows a breast located on the left side of the image and the other image
shows a breast located on the right side of the image.

o The alignment of one of the two view ports (as specified by the hanging protocol
configuration) is left and the alignment of the other view port is not right.

 Situation 4 (when all of the following statements are true):

o Paired image processing is used to compare two mammography images of the same size

o One image shows a breast located on the left side of the image and the other shows a
breast located on the right side of the image.

o The alignment of one of the two view ports (as specified by the hanging protocol
configuration) is top, centre or bottom and the alignment of the other view port is not
the same.

4.8.20 Mirror Paired Mode

This command switches between mirrored and non-mirrored behavior of the paired image
processing mode.

When paired image processing mode is on and an image tool is used on an image in one of the view
ports then that image tool also operates on the image in the other view port. For some of the image
tools, there is a distinction between mirrored and non-mirrored operation on the image in the other
view port. The operation on the image in the other view port is mirrored if Mirror Paired Mode is on
and non-mirrored otherwise.

When for example a magnifier in one view port moves from left to right then the magnifier in the
other view port moves from right to left if Mirror Paired Mode is on or from left to right if Mirror
Paired Mode is off.

Note, when paired mode tools are used on two images it is the responsibility of the user to make
sure the images are aligned correctly. Turning of ‘Paired Image Processing Mode’ and
panning one image until it matches with the image in the second view port can accomplish
this.

Note, when using paired mode tools on images that have been greatly enlarged, there is no
guarantee that the two tools (for instance magnification glass) show the exact same
location, since this must be accomplished by aligning the images manually.

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 66 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

4.8.21 3D / MPR
MPR is the first available embedded 3D feature in View Pro-X. MPR is enabled by selecting the
function from the menu but is also available as tool button and can be activated directly from a
hanging protocol.

 3D: enables MPR in the active viewport.

 View Axial: shows the axial view of the volume
in the active (sub)viewport.
 View Coronal: shows the coronal view of the
volume in the active (sub)viewport.
 View Sagittal: shows the sagittal view of the
volume in the active (sub)viewport.

MPR can be enabled in multiple viewports side by side in order to compare series with one another.

Note: The number of images that can be handled is solely limited by the available computer
memory. 64 bit systems are recommended for using the View Pro-X 3D extension.

Working with MPR

On enabling MPR the active viewport is split into 4 sub viewports each containing a plane
reconstructed out of the available volume information.

Figure 4-40: MPR view

The different planes are represented using various colors and as intermittent lines for perceptibility
on grayscale displays. In the lower right corner of each sub viewport a reference object is displayed
to show how the plane view is oriented in relation to the patient. The lower right sub viewport

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 67 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

shows the relation between the planes to one another. A dedicated MPR toolbar appears in the
image viewer containing the same functions as the 3D menu.

Mouse controls enable you to alter the position of

the reconstructed planes. A single left click on a
location in the active viewport moves the
intersection of the reconstructed planes in the
other two sub viewports to the position of the
mouse. The intersection can also be dragged to
another location by moving the mouse towards the
center of the axis, holding down the left mouse
button and releasing it at the desired location.
Rotation of the axis can be achieved by moving the
mouse to the proximity of the outer 2/3 of an axis.
The mouse pointer indicates that you can rotate
the axis around the center point by moving the
mouse with the left mouse button pressed.
The Free Rotation function allows you to rotate the
Figure 4-41: Rotate
images in each sub viewport freely.

4.9.1 Navigating a Tiled View Port

Figure 4-43: Set Movie Frame Rate Figure 4-44: Set Navigation Speed

Navigating through tiled view ports works slightly different than when you have a normal view port.

The series will be split into sets of images. Each set contains a number of images corresponding to
the number of tiles in the view port. So every time you navigate the whole visible set of images will
be altered.

If at the end of the series there are fewer images left than there are tiles available,
the remaining tiles will be left empty.

 First Image: Show the first set of images of the current series.
Example: A series containing 20 images, a tiled view port with a 2x2 matrix (4 tiles),
displaying the second set of images (5 – 8).
Result: The first 4 images will be shown.

 Previous Image: Show the previous set of images of the current series.
Example: A series containing 20 images, a tiled view port with a 2x2 matrix (4 tiles), currently
displaying the second set of images (5 – 8).
Result: The first set will be shown containing images 1 -4.

 Next Image: Show the next set of images within the current series.

Example: A series containing 20 images, a tiled view port with a 2x2 matrix (4 tiles),
displaying the second set of images (5 – 8).
Result: The third set will be shown containing images 9 -12.

 Last Image: Show the last set of images within the current series.

5 Quality Control
The Quality Control Module (QC) is an expansion of View Pro-X, which enables the user to correct a
variety of problems than can occur:

 The operator of a modality could have

selected the wrong procedure step,
causing the recorded images to be
linked to the wrong patient.

 Administrative items, like an accession

number, could have been entered
incorrectly.

 Patient demographics could have been

entered incorrectly.

QC provides an intuitive interface that allows a

(limited) group of users to correct these errors.

Corrections can be made to a patient, a study, Figure 5-1: Quality Control menu Change values
series and / or images. The user can also move
information. For instance a series can be moved to a different study or a different patient. Next to
this the QC module can import new images from a CD into the archive and delete images that are no
longer needed.

5.1 Quality Control Menu

The QC options are presented in the Quality Control menu. This menu can be found in both the work
list viewer as the image viewer. The represented options are almost identical. The only difference is
that the QC menu in the Image Viewer has the additional sub options ‘Loaded Images…’.

The Quality Control menu contains the following items:

 Change Patient/Study Values

o Study…

o Selected Images…

o Loaded Images…

 Change Patient VIP Status…

 Login to …

 Logout from …

The menu items are enabled or disabled according to certain conditions.

The general condition for all menu items is that user must be logged in.
Either the ’Login to…’ or ‘Logout from…’ option will always be enabled.

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 74 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

5.1.1 Login
To be able to perform QC actions you must first be
logged in to an archive. The archive you’ll log in to
will be the archive of the currently selected PACS-
profile. This is also indicated in the menu item (see
the underlining in Figure 5-1), where the name of the
archive location is displayed.
It is possible to perform QC actions on multiple
archives, as long as you are authorized to login to the
various archives. These permissions are handled by
the archive itself.

When the login option is selected from the menu the

dialog in Figure 5-3 will appear. Here you should Figure 5-3: The Login Dialog
enter your user name and password in order to login
to the archive.

QC recognizes two levels of users: Basic and Advanced.

Basic users are more restricted than advanced users in the type of commands that can be performed
on the archive as well as in the type of changes they can make. For Basic users some options in the
QC menu will remain disabled, even when they are logged in to the archive.

5.1.2 Logout
A user can only perform QC actions on one archive at a time. If you wish to perform a QC action on
another archive than you are currently logged into, you are required to logout from the current
archive, before you can log into another archive.

In the QC menu you can see into which

archive you are currently logged in, since
the name of the archive will appear
behind the ‘Logout from…’ text.

When you choose the logout option, the

Figure 5-4: The Logout Dialog dialog in Figure 5-4 will appear. Select ‘Yes’
to logout.

The QC module has an inactivity timer.

That means that when you stay inactive (have not performed
any QC action) for a certain period of time while being logged
into the archive, you will automatically be logged out. When
this happens, the dialog in Figure 5-5 will appear.
This is done for security reasons, so no unauthorized users can
get access to QC commands in the case a user forgets to
Figure 5-5: Forced Logout Dialog
logout. The inactivity period can be configured by the PACS
administrator (See Service Manual).

5.1.3 Change Patient / Study Values

The ‘Change Patient / Study Values’ action can be used to move a study or selected images to
another study or patient. At the same time the attributes of the study or the selected images can be

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 75 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

modified.

This action can be used to correct the situation where an incorrect modality procedure step was
selected.

5.1.4 Change Patient VIP Status

The VIP module is designed to cover 2 scenarios.

The first scenario is an already existing patient which has images in the PACS archive. By changing
the VIP status of this patient the existing images are no longer available for anyone but the group
that is capable of viewing the images of a VIP patient.

The second scenario is a ‘new’ patient which doesn’t have images in PACS yet. This patient is sent via
an ADT message and stored in the archive. By changing the VIP status of this patient, any images
added to the PACS will not be available for anyone but the group that is capable of viewing the
images of a VIP patient.

Although the difference in the scenarios appears to be trivial, the handling of each scenario is
different in the PACS viewer.

The Quality Control menu in View Pro-X has an entry named Change VIP Status. This
entry will be enabled when the user has logged in to a PACS archive and the PACS archive
‘recognizes’ the user as a user that is allowed to view VIP patients.

To log in select the menu entry named Login to (archivename), from the Quality
Control menu and provide the password to log in.

If the user is not configured to be in a group that has the policy VIPViewer set to the value Y then
the menu item for changing the VIP status will remain disabled.

All QC commands will only work when a work-list is loaded, the Change VIP Status command
is the exception to that. This is done to be able to handle the second scenario. The PACS viewer will
not show a patient when there are no images available, so to be able to select a patient without
images the command is enabled even without a loaded work-list.

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 76 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

When the user selects the Change Patient VIP Status command, the dialog in the image
below is shown:

Figure 5-6 Select Patient for VIP status

In this dialog the user can select either a new patient that doesn’t have images yet or an existing
patient with images. Because the PACS archive does not return a patient without images, the user
has to provide the patient ID manually in the first case. In the second case the patient that is
selected in the work-list
list will be the patient that has its VIP status changed.
chan

If no work-list
list was loaded before issuing the change VIP status command, then the second option is
disabled.
If a patient was available from a loaded work-list,
work list, then the dialog still allows the user to specify a
patient ID of a patient without images.
images

Select what is appropriate and click Next.. The following image shows the dialog that appears:

The user can only set the VIP status. This status can only be ‘Y’ or ‘N’. Any other values are rejected.
Click Next to go to the QC action overview and Next again to apply the status to the patient.

5.1.5 Import Selected Images

The ‘Import Selected Images’ option is used to import images from DICOMdir
dir media (probably a CD
CD-
ROM) into the PACS archive. The imported images will be imported in the archive that has been
configured as the master archive location.

Note, The user has to be logged in to the Master Archive Location in order to import images.

5.1.6 Edit
The ‘Edit’ action allows for attributes to be changed.

Attributes are either on patient-level, study-level, series-level or image-level and depend on the
configuration (ask your PACS-administrator).

Selecting a level allows the user to change attributes of only that level. So if you choose patient, you
can change the patient name or the patient ID, but not the accession number, since the accession
number is an attribute on study level.

If you want to change the accession number, choose the ‘Edit Study…’ menu item

This action can be used to correct the situation where attributes were entered incorrectly.

The unperformed list gives an overview of the difference
between the scheduled studies on the DICOM modality work list
server and the archived studies.

Once selected, you can set the starting date to compare the
entries in the modality work list server and the archive and the
number of days to be checked. . If the start date is today you can
also set an end time to ensure that scheduled studies for later

5.2 QC Wizard
The Quality Control Wizard will guide the user through any QC action. Although it consists of three
dialogs only, it’s capable to provide the user with feedback on the current action. It will also prevent
a specific QC action, in the case that the prerequisite criteria have not been met.

5.2.1 Edit Dialog

Each QC action (except the Delete action) will invoke the Edit dialog. This dialog is the centerpiece of
Quality Control.

5.2.1.1 The Columns

Figure 5-13: Edit Dialog Columns

The Edit Dialog contains 3 columns.

 Original Values
The attributes in this column represent the original values of the image, series, study or
patient for which the QC action was started.
These values cannot be modified.

 New Values
The attributes in this column represent the values that will be stored when the user selects
the OK button. These values can be copied from the Original Values or the Matching Values,
but they can also be filled or edited directly.
Not all the attributes will be editable (see chapter 5.2.1.4)

 Matching Values
The attributes in this column represent the values of the target (when doing a move action)
or of the match (when doing an edit action).
These values cannot be modified and are initially empty.

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 83 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

5.2.1.2 The Buttons
The Edit Dialog contains three general buttons

Figure 5-14: General Edit Dialog Buttons

 ‘Reset’
Reset all the attributes in the New Values Column to the original values.
This does not depend on the selection of attributes.

 ‘Cancel’
Cancel the QC action.

 ‘Next’
Moves to the next step, the confirmation dialog.

Next to the general buttons, the right and the left column of the Edit Dialog have their own group of
buttons to help the user with setting the correct values.

5.2.1.3 Represented DICOM Attributes
The Edit Dialog will present a set of DICOM attributes that may be modifiable. (See chapter 5.2.1.4
Modifiable DICOM Attributes). The set of attributes that will be presented depends on the type of
QC action that has been chosen as well as the Quality Control Configuration.

The Import action will present a fixed set of attributes in the Edit Dialog:

 Patient ID

 Patient Name

 Patient Sex

 Patient Birthday

 Accession Number

The Move and Edit actions will show the attributes that have been configured by the PACS
administrator (Please refer to the Service Manual for detailed information).

The default configuration contains:

 Patient ID (Patient Level)

 Patient Name (Patient Level)

 Patient Sex (Patient Level)

 Patient Birth date (Patient Level)

 Accession Number (Study Level)

 Study Date (Study Level)

 Study Description (Study Level)

 Referring Physicians Name (Study Level)

 Performing Physicians Name (Series Level)

 Series Description (Series Level)

 Patient Comments (Series Level)

 Body Part Examined (Series Level)

 View Position (Image Level)

 Patient Orientation (Image Level)

5.2.1.4 Modifiable DICOM Attributes

The DICOM attributes that are displayed in the Edit Dialog can either be modifiable (enabled) or
fixed (disabled).

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 85 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

Figure 5-17: A Modifiable and a Fixed DICOM Attribute Row

Depending on the type of QC action and of the level of the source (patient / study / series / images),
the Edit boxes of the ‘New Values’ column and the checkboxes of the other two columns will either
be enabled or disabled.

For instance, if you perform an edit action on study level, you cannot modify attributes on patient
level. Nor can you change series, study or patient attributes when you are editing image attributes.

Furthermore you can change patient attributes while you are moving a patient to another patient,
but if you move a study to a patient you can only change study attributes.

All these possibilities are listed in Table 5-7: Modifiable DICOM Attributes. The ‘Displayed Attributes
Level’ column indicates which attributes are shown; while the ‘Modifiable Attributes Level’ column
shows which attributes can actually be modified.

However when the target of the action is a new patient all attributes will be enabled, so they can all
be modified.

5.2.2 Find Target / Find Match Dialog
The Find Target / Find Match Dialog help the user to select a matching patient or a target. When the
user wants to perform an edit action, he might want to find a match from which the DICOM values
can be used to copy into the ‘New Values’ column.

When a move action is being executed, the user may want to find a target to move the sources to. In
both cases the dialog in Figure 5-18: Find Target / Find Match Dialog will be displayed.

Figure 5-18: Find Target / Find Match Dialog

5.2.2.1 The Buttons

In this dialog three groups of controls can be found:

 Location
The selected radio button determines whether the query for a match or target is done on
the DICOM Modality Work list Server (DMWLS) or on the PACS Archive.

 Query
This group of controls enables the user to search for a specific target / match. This can be
done in 3 different ways.

o Search filter Query

This will pop-up a dialog where the user can select and provide a value for
attributes to query. This is allows for most flexible queries

o Patient ID
When a Patient ID has been filled into the edit field, pressing the Query Patient
ID button will query for the specified Patient ID.
In the case of searching in a PACS Archive only a part of the ID has to be filled to
obtain matching Patient ID-s, but when the DICOM Modality Work list Server is
queried, the complete Patient ID must be specified.
(See Figure 5-19: Query Controls). Entering a Patient ID will disable the Query
button for Accession Number.

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 87 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

o Accession Number
When an Accession Number has been filled into the edit field, pressing the
Query Acc. Nr. button will query for the specified Accession Number. For both
PACS Archive and DICOM Modality Work list Server it is sufficient just to specify
a part of an accession number to get matching results. Entering an Accession
Number will disable the Query button for Patient ID.

Figure 5-19: Query Controls

 Level
The Level group of radio buttons is especially important when selecting a target for a ‘Move’
action. The selected radio button specifies how much of the queried data will be returned to
the edit dialog. For instance: If you want to perform a ‘Move Study’ action, the final result of
the action will depend on the level you select here:

o If you select ‘Patient’, the study will be moved to the target patient.

o If you select ‘Study’, the study will be merged with the target study.

The location and level controls presented in this dialog depend upon the type of QC action that has
been selected. Table 5-8: Location and Level Selection will show the different options. The  symbol
indicates the default selection.

Table 5-8: Location and Level Selection

After a query has been performed, a target / match can be selected from the list.
When the selection has been made a line of text will be displayed above the list. This text will inform
the user what the current selection will imply (see examples in Table 5-5: Move Sources and
Targets). The hint text will change according to the current selection in the list, the selected level and
the type of QC action.

The hint text may also indicate a potential error (see chapter 5.2.4).
If this is the case, the selection will not be allowed. If the selection is accepted you can press ‘OK’
and return to the edit dialog.

The behavior of the ‘Cancel’ button varies with the type of QC action that is performed.

 When doing an edit action pressing ‘Cancel’ means:

Cancel the search and return to the edit dialog.

 When doing a move action pressing ‘Cancel’ means:

Do not indicate a target! Instead create a new target. When you return to the edit dialog,
you will find that all the controls are enabled. With all the control enabled you can fill in any
information required for the new patient.

5.2.2.2 Confirmation Dialogs

The confirmation dialog will give an overview of what is about to happen before actually performing
the requested procedure. There are two types of confirmation dialogs; one for a delete action and
one for all the other actions.

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 89 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

5.2.2.3 General Confirmation Dialog
The confirmation dialog shows the ‘new’ patient, study, series and / or image information.
This information can be generated because the images are moved to a different patient and
attributes change automatically, or because the attributes were changed by the user.

5-20: General Confirm Dialog

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 90 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

The attributes that will be modified are displayed in a bold font. The items that are displayed in a
normal font are original values that will not be changed.

The hint text in the top of the dialog shows what will happen. Check whether this is what you expect
before continuing with the QC action. If you are satisfied with the result, press the ‘Write Data’
button to commit the changes and modify the data. When you are not satisfied and want to make
changes, press the ‘Back’ button which will return you to the ‘Edit’ dialog for further modifications,
without modifying anything at this moment. You can also decide to cancel the QC action altogether
by pressing ‘Cancel’.

5.2.2.4 Confirm Delete Dialog

The Confirm Delete Dialog (Figure 5-21) shows all the images that will be deleted.
This is only an information dialog; nothing can be selected.Either press ‘Cancel’ to cancel the delete
action, or press ‘OK’ to delete the images.

Figure 5-21: Confirm Delete Dialog

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 91 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

5.2.3 Progress Dialog
Some QC actions can take up considerable time.
To indicate how long it will take before the action will be
completed a Progress Dialog will be displayed.
The progress dialog consists of 6 separate steps plus a total
progress indication for each transaction. If you are performing a
delete action or an import action only two progress bars will be
used. (Delete Originals and total progress or
Store Images and total progress respectively).

Images will be processed in groups of 1000 images at the same

time. Each transaction (group of images) will restart the
progress indicators until all transactions have been completed.

Figure 5-22: Progress Dialog

5.2.4 Error Messages

When making a selection (either through the ‘Find Target / Find Match’ dialog or by entering the
values in the ‘Edit’ dialog) you may encounter several error messages. Some of these messages only
occur when an edit action has been selected, others may also occur in the case of selecting a target.

All errors must be resolved before continuing the action. In Table 5-9: Error Messages and Remedies
the error messages and their remedies have been listed.

Once the problem has been resolved the user can press the ‘Next’ button to proceed.

6 Orthopedic Functionality
View Pro-X can be extended with specific orthopedic functionality. An additional license is needed in
order to use the Orthopedic Functionality.

6.1 Templates
When the orthopedic functionality is activated in View Pro-X
the ‘Ortho Templates Bar’ will be available in the View
Menu. By selecting and deselecting the Ortho Templates Bar
will either appear or disappear in View Pro-X.
The Ortho Templates Bar can be used to select an available
arthroplasty type in order to add or replace a template of a
prosthesis component in the image that is currently
displayed in the viewer.

6.1.1 Selecting Templates

The templates for prosthesis can be added to an image as
follows:

Navigate to the image to which the templates are to be

added.

Calibrate the image using one of the calibration commands

(See chapter 4.8.12.1).

Select the following properties in the Ortho Templates Bar:

 Arthroplasty type: Anatomical region.

 Image orientation: antero-posterior or lateral.
 Laterality: Side of the patient on which the
prosthesis will be used.
 Vendor: select the arthroplasty vendor.
 Cemented: Yes / no
 Model: Device name of the prosthesis. Figure 6-1: Ortho Templates Bar

Now the Ortho Templates Bar will show a list of available sizes for each of the prosthesis
components. Selecting a size will add a template for the prosthesis component of that size to the
image. Selecting another size for the same prosthesis component will replace the previous template.

A template can be moved by maneuvering the mouse over the template and dragging it while
keeping the left mouse button down and moving the mouse. The template can be rotated by moving
the mouse while keeping the right mouse button pressed down.

An unlimited amount of templates can be added to the Image. If multiple templates or multiple
template parts need to be added to the image then make sure that none of the templates on the
image are selected. Templates or template parts can be added to the image by making a new
selection from the Ortho Template Bar.

6.1.2 Availability of Templates

View Pro-X comes with a pre-selected set of templates based on your needs. In order to display
templates, the templates have to be available on your system. When the set of templates is altered
some templates might not be available anymore. View Pro-X will warn you if templates are not

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 94 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

available to be displayed. In order to prevent this situation you can use the function ‘Publish Image’
(see chapter 4.3.8.4). For more information, please consult your system administrator.

6.2 Measurements
6.2.1 Total Hip Measurement
The ‘Total Hip Measurement’ is a collection of various measurements on a hip.

Before a total hip measurement can be done the image should be

oriented as shown in Figure 6-2.

To create a total hip measurement:

 Select the Total Hip command (chapter 4.8.12)
 View Pro-X will ask to left click on the following points:
o The centre of the femoral head
of the right and left side of the patient.
o The medullary canal of the femur shaft Figure 6-2:
of the right and left side of the patient. Required orientation for Total
o The teardrops on the right and left side Hip Measurement
of the patient.
 A total hip measurement will be added to the image.
It will be given an initial layout based on the points that were selected.
 Adjust the total hip measurement.

Figure 6-3: Total Hip Measurement

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 95 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

A total hip measurement bases its measurements on the following components:

Horizontal Reference Line (indicated with ‘a’ in Figure 6-3)

A horizontal line helps to determine the orientation of the hip. It connects two adjustable
points that can be positioned on the teardrops or on the ischial tuberosities.
Medial Reference Line (indicated with ‘b’ in Figure 6-3)
This line is the centre reference of the body. It is perpendicular to the horizontal reference
line.
Centre of rotations (indicated with ‘c’ in Figure 6-3)
Two circles indicating the acetabular centers of rotation. Both need to be placed on the
acetabular boundary or the femur head boundary if the acetabular boundary is not clear.
Longitudinal Axes (indicated with ‘d’ in Figure 6-3)
Two lines representing the centers of the femur shafts. A longitudinal axis is positioned using
two helper lines connecting two points situated on opposite sides of the femur shaft. The
longitudinal axis connects the middle points of the two helper lines. Each longitudinal axis
also has a line parallel to it that is used for calculating the offset.
D2 Reference points (indicated with ‘e’ in Figure 6-3)
For the calculation of the femoral component of the leg length a reference point is used. This
point needs to be placed on the femur, for example on the tip of the greater trochanter or
the tip of the lesser trochanter.

When a total hip measurement is created these components are given an initial position but they
need to be adjusted in order to get correct measurement results.

A total hip measurement contains the following measurements:

Offset
The (horizontal) offset is the distance between the acetabular centre of rotation and the line
that is parallel to the longitudinal axis through the middle of the femur shaft and positioned
on the outer cortex of the greater trochanter. It is visualized as a double-headed arrow
labeled ‘Offset’.
Distance to Medial Line
The distance to medial line is the distance between the acetabular centre of rotation and the
medial reference line. It is visualized as a double-headed arrow labeled ‘MD’.
Acetabular component of the leg length
The acetabular component of the leg length is the distance between the acetabular centre
of rotation and the horizontal reference line. This distance is positive if the centre of rotation
is below the horizontal reference line and negative if the centre of rotation is above the
horizontal reference line. It is visualized as a double-headed arrow labeled ‘D1’.
Femoral component of the leg length
To calculate the femoral component of the leg length the acetabular centre of rotation and
the D2 reference point are projected on the longitudinal axis. The femoral component of the
leg length is the distance between the projected points. This distance is positive if the
projected D2 reference point is below the projected centre of rotation and negative if the
projected D2 reference point is above the projected centre of rotation. It is visualized as a
double-headed arrow labeled ‘D2’.

The measurement values of a total hip measurement are not immediately visible.
They become visible when an Ortho Hip Arthroplasty Report is created because the total hip
measurement values are included in the report.
(See chapter 6.3.1, Arthroplasty Report).

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 96 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

6.2.2 Hip Angles Measurement
The Hip Angles measurement measures the acetabular angles of the left and right hip in degrees. It
is created as follows:

 Click on the roof of one of the acetabuli.

 Click on the two points of the Hilgenreiner’s line (Y-Y line).

 Click on the roof of the other acetabulum.

6.2.3 Wear Measurement

Cup wear measurements are not stored in the archive. The value of a cup wear measurement can be
stored using the Wear of the Cup Report.
(See chapter 4.3.23 Wear of the Cup Report).

Before a cup wear measurement can be done, the image should be oriented as shown in Error!
Reference source not found. or Error! Reference source not found., depending on the side of the
patient on which the measurement is done.

Figure 6-4: Required orientation of right hip for cup wear measurement

Figure 6-5: Required orientation of left hip for cup wear measurement

Note, the distances measured by the wear of the cup measurement are very small.
A small error in the points clicked on when creating the wear of the cup measurement can
result in relatively large errors in the measurement values. Because of this it is
recommended that a wear of the cup measurement is repeated a couple of times for the
same cup in the same image. The deviation between the values gives an indication of the
precision of the measurements.

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 97 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

6.2.3.1 All-Poly Cups
When a measurement is done of the wear of an all-poly cup, View Pro-X will ask to click on 6 points
on the metal ring of the cup and then to click on 6 points on the outline of the femoral head. A cup
wear measurement is then created consisting of an ellipse tracing the metal ring and an ellipse
tracing the outline of the femoral head. The cup wear measurement displays the distance between
the centre of the metal ring and the centre of the femoral head.

Figure 6-6: Cup wear measurement for all-poly cups

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 98 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

6.2.3.2 Metal-backed Cups
When a measurement is made of the wear of a metal-backed cup component of a hip prosthesis,
View Pro-X will ask to click on the following points:
 3 points on the outline of the metal backing of the cup.
 The lateral and medial cup edge (indicated with “a” and “b” in Error! Reference source not
found.).
 3 points on the outline of the femoral head.
A cup wear measurement is then created consisting of a circle tracing the outline of the metal
backing, a line between the lateral and medial cup edge, and a circle tracing the outline of the
femoral head.
The cup wear measurement displays the distance between the centre of the cup and the centre of
the femoral head.

6.3.2 Wear of the Cup Report
The Wear of the Cup Report template will display the following measurement values of the Wear of
the Cup Measurement:

Centre of the cup (for metal-backed cups only)

The location of the centre of the cup. The centre of the cup is always located at (0, 0)
since it is used as origin of the coordinate system (see chapter 6.3.2.1 Wear of the
Cup Coordinate System).
Centre of the metal ring in the cup (for all-poly cups only)
The location of the centre of the metal ring in the cup. The centre of the metal ring
in the cup is always located at (0, 0) since it is used as origin of the coordinate
system (see chapter 6.3.2.1 Wear of the Cup Coordinate System).
Centre of the femoral head
The location of the centre of the femoral head.
Wear of the cup length
For metal-backed cups: the distance between the centre of the cup and the centre
of the femoral head.
For all-poly cups: the distance between the centre of the metal ring in the cup and
the centre of the femoral head.
Wear of the cup angle
For metal-backed cups: the angle of the vector from the centre of the cup to the
centre of the femoral head.
For all-poly cups: the angle of the vector from the centre of the metal ring in the cup
to the centre of the femoral head.
The angle is measured relative to the x-axis of the wear of the cup measurement
(see chapter 6.3.2.1 Wear of the Cup Coordinate System). The angle is positive if it is
clockwise.

Figure 6-10: Wear of the Cup Report

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 102 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

The Wear of the Cup Report template also gives the user the possibility to enter additional
comments. Selecting OK will store the Wear of the Cup Report.

The menu option for this report will only be available when the image in the active view port
contains a Cup Wear Measurement (see chapter 6.2.3, Wear Measurement).

Wear of the Cup Reports are stored as structured reports.

When viewing a Wear of the Cup Report, it will be displayed in the structured reports viewer. It will
not be editable.

6.3.2.1 Wear of the Cup Coordinate System

For reporting locations of certain points of a cup wear measurement and for reporting the cup wear
angle a coordinate system is used.
For metal-backed cups, the coordinate system has its origin at the centre of the cup. The x-axis is
parallel to the line passing through the lateral and medial cup edge and points towards the left side
of the patient. The y-axis is perpendicular to the x-axis and points upwards.
Figure 6-11 and Error! Reference source not found. show examples of the calculation of the Wear
of the Cup values for metal-backed cups. The green circle is tracing the outline of the metal backing
of the cup and the green line is connecting the lateral and medial side of the cup. The bleu circle is
tracing the outline of the femoral head. The x- and y-axis indicated with ‘x’ and ‘y’ and a circular
arrow represents the wear of the cup angle.

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 103 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

Figure 6-12: Measuring the wear of a metal-backed cup on the left side of a patient

For all-poly cups, the coordinate system has its origin at the centre of the metal ring of the cup. The
x-axis coincides with the longer of the two axes of the ellipse tracing the metal ring and points
towards the left side of the patient. The y-axis is perpendicular to the x-axis and points upwards.
Figure 6-13 and Figure 6-14 show examples of the calculation of the Wear of the Cup values for all-
poly cups. The green ellipse is tracing the metal ring in the cup. The blue circle is tracing the outline
of the femoral head. The x- and y-axis indicated with “x” and “y” and a circular arrow represents the
wear of the cup angle.

7 Diagnostic Workflow / Teleradiology
This feature allows for multiple physicians to read from the same set of images without interfering
each other’s workflow and the occurrence of double readings. This workflow is common in
mammography screening and Teleradiology.

All images that are stored in the archive are expanded with so-called work items.

Initially, these items will have the status SCHEDULED.

To show these work items in various statuses,

it is possible to select a workflow type on the
Edit PACS Profile dialog (see image). The
Diagnostic Workflow box is normally set to
‘None’ for normal work list behavior. It can be
set to four other values, to produce four types
of workflow Work lists:

Diagnose Scheduled Studies produces a list of

work items that have the status SCHEDULED,
indicating that the user can perform a reading
study. This list should only shows items which
are not read by this user before and given a
POSITIVE or NEGATIVE diagnoses for. For
recovery purposes, this list also shows the IN
PROGRESS items of the user, which the user
was working on last.

Show Consult Required Studies produces a

list of items that have been set to Consult
Required. Users will typically want to see
items in this list to confer about their findings.
In the archive database, the study status will
be marked as SUSPENDED.

Show Incomplete Studies shows studies that

this user has set to INCOMPLETE if additional
information on the patient has to be gathered.
These can be reset or rescheduled once the
missing information has been acquired. The
status of the study is reset to SCHEDULED.

Show All Incomplete Studies on the other

hand shows the INCOMPLETE studies of all
users at once. Clicking on a workflow PACS
Figure 7-1 Configure Pacs profile dialog Profile yields a work list similar to a normal
work list, with a few exceptions:

 Patient-related fields in the Work list view are restricted to Patient Name and Patient ID.

 A number of workflow related fields can be selected through the field chooser.

 When the user views images for a study, the work item is claimed by the user.

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 106 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

Workflow-related fields, that can be chosen from the Field Chooser for workflow-related work lists
are the following:

 Scheduled Procedure Step Status (SPS Status)

 Scheduled Procedure Step ID (SPS ID)

 Scheduled Procedure Step Start Date and Time (SPS date / time)

 Scheduled Procedure Step Priority (SPS priority)

 Human Performers Name (SPS Performer)

 Comments on the Performed Procedure Step (Comment on SPS)

As mentioned, one can view images from the workflow work list by either clicking “view images”
from the right-click menu, or double-clicking the selected items on the work list. Both will result in
images being loaded for the physician to read, and the work item being claimed so no other
physician can work on the same items at the same time.

Figure 7-2 Diagnostic Workflow toolbar

To be able to work on the images, the physician needs the Diagnostic Workflow toolbar. This toolbar
can be shown and hidden by selecting ‘View / Toolbars / Diagnostic Workflow commands’ from the
menu bar.

When not using the Diagnostic Workflow the buttons are grayed out. When using the Diagnostic
Workflow, the buttons are grayed out according to what actions can be performed on the currently
loaded images. The following actions, if not grayed out, can be performed on a work item:

 Negative: chosen to report a negative finding for the visible images. In this case, the user
does not edit a report, or, if the PACS Profile indicates the use of reports, a default negative
report is generated on behalf of the user.

 Negative + R: also reports negative findings, but is chosen when the user wishes to edit the
report before submitting it.

 Positive: chosen to report positive findings, in which case a report must always be filled by
the user.

 Incomplete: chosen by the user to indicate that he or she does not have enough information
to complete the reading. May be reversed later by either a Reset or Re-diagnose.

 Consult: used to indicate that a consult with another physician is required to achieve a
complete reading in this case. As a result of the consult, this item may be Reset or Re-
diagnosed.

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 107 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

 Re-schedule: returns a work item to the SCHEDULED state, as long as it has not exceeded the
number of COMPLETE Performed Procedure Steps required for a complete diagnosis.

 Re-diagnose: returns a work item to the SCHEDULED state, and immediately claims it for the
current user, so immediate diagnosis may follow.

The addition ‘Next’ automatically loads the next (preloaded) study in the worklist after selecting the
action. Configure the toolbar to suit your preferred workflow (see 4.3.6 Customize).

For some screening purposes multiple readings are required to complete a full diagnosis. This can be
configured in the archive (Rogan On-Line Access ROX).

If multiple overlays are available the ‘CAD Next’ functionality shows the overlays in sequence. ‘CAD
Marks’ and ‘CAD Outline’ show the individual overlays.

8.3 Mammography diagnostic workflow

This feature allows for multiple physicians to read from the same set of images without interfering
each other’s workflow and the occurrence of double readings (of the same study). This workflow is
common in mammography screening.

For some screening purposes multiple readings are required to complete a full diagnosis. This can be
configured in the archive (Rogan On-Line Access ROX).

See Chapter 7 above Diagnostic Workflow for more details.

8.4 Mammography Radiologists Report

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 109 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

The radiologists have the option to add a report of their findings to the image. These reports are
activated by using the Diagnostic Workflow but also available by viewing the image in the image
viewer, selecting it, and choosing Mammography Radiologists Report from the Edit menu of the

Figure 8-2 Mammo Radiologist Report

menu bar (see chapter 4.3.10). This will pop up the Radiologists Report Template, to allow the
radiologist to report his findings. This template has several areas:

1. A classification for the right breast, mandatory

2. A classification for the left breast, mandatory

3. A legend relating the various BIRAD ratings to the classifications

4. A comment field for free format text

5. A proposed action field, with several options and a free form option

6. A proposed next round field, with several options and a free form option.

The entire dialog can be sized, to allow adaptation to the size of your screen.

The radiologist's reports will be stored as structured reports.

When viewing a radiologists report, it is displayed in the structured reports viewer. It will not be
editable.

8.5 Mammography Technicians Report

Rogan-Delft B.V. Page 110 of 118 Release: 4.0.10

On this report a Radiographer can mark finding after physically examining and observing a patient
for mammography imaging. This is done by displaying the image in the image viewer, making sure it
is selected, and choosing the mammography technician’s report from the edit menu in the menu bar
(see chapter 4.3.20).

This pops up a dialog, in which there is room for several findings:

1. A free text comments field, for any findings not fitting the other dialog elements.

2. A set of checkmarks to report findings related to the nipple area of the breasts.

3. A graphical representation of the breasts on which findings related to other areas of the
breasts can be marked.

The last option is activated by marking a spot using the left mouse button on the breast image. A
small dialog will pop up asking for the type of finding one wants to mark. Once selected, the mark
will be set using the first letter of the type. The user can right-
click on a marking to remove it from the image. Dragging marks
is not possible. The entire dialog can be sized, to allow for
better adaptation to the screen.

These reports will be added to the data of the patient as

structured reports, which will bring up the same dialog. While
viewing a report it will not be editable, but read-only. If for
some reason a report cannot be archived, the user will be
notified.
