Document Conventions
l The syntax of the CLI command and its usage is given in command format.
l Elements in (< > ) indicate the field required as input along with a CLI command,
for example, < integer (100-1000)>.
l Elements in square brackets ([] ) indicate optional fields for a command.
l Text in {} refers to either or group for the tokens given inside separated by a |
symbol.
l The no form of the command resets a particular configuration to its default value
or revokes the effect. This is explicitly explained in the description of the
commands for which it is applicable.
l Any action that can change the switch configuration, conditionals and
requirements for a command and information associated with significant details
and functionality of a command is listed using the F symbol.

Using the Command Line Interface

This section describes the configuration of Aviat Networks CTR 8500 and CTR 8300 using the
Command Line Interface. The Command Line Interface (CLI) can be used from a console
attached to the serial port of the switch or from a remote terminal using telnet or SSH.
Log in instructions are below. After logging in, the user's mode is based on their assigned
privilege level:
user-exec mode - levels 1 through 14
privileged-user-exec mode - level 15.
CLI command modes provide a detailed description of the various modes available for CTR.
l The command prompt always displays the current mode.
l The abbreviated forms of the CLI commands are also accepted when the short
version is unique with any other possible command options. For example,
commands like show ip interface can be typed as sh ip int.
l CLI commands are case insensitive.
l CLI commands will be successful only if the dependencies are satisfied for a
particular command that is used. The general dependency is that the module
specific commands are available only when the respective module is ‘enabled’.
Appropriate error messages will be displayed, if the dependencies are not
satisfied.

Logging Into CTR 8500 CLI

When the Aviat Networks CTR 85oo or CTR 8300 is started, enter the user name and
password at the login prompt (example is for CTR 8540):

which can be viewed by using the CLI command "show system
acknowledgment". This command also details the licenses
associated with each component and describes the methods
available to acquire the open source software.

User Name and Password Overview

To log in, users need a user name and a password.
There are two default users:
l The root user has administrative privileges and can access all aspects of the
system. The default root user password is admin123 . The root user cannot be
deleted, but the default root user password can be changed.
l The guest user has limited privileges, with a default password of guest123.

N O TE: For s tr ong s ys tem s ec ur ity, the adminis tr ator s hould c hange the

New users can be created and deleted in the system with the following commands:

Command Function
enable password <new-password> Sets a password enabling the current user to access the
privileged_exec user level from the user-exec level.
no enable password <password> Prevents the current user from accessing the privileged_exec user

Context Sensitive Help

The Aviat Networks CLI framework offers context sensitive help.
The user can type a question mark (?) anytime during a session to get help. The help can be
invoked in several ways. It is not displayed as a whole and is available only for the specific
token from where it is invoked.
Examples of possible scenarios are given below.
User keys in a character followed immediately by a question mark (?). This
displays the current possible tokens without help string.
aos(config)# sh?

show shutdown
The user enters a keyword at the command prompt and enters a question mark (?)
after hitting a space. This displays the next possible tokens along with the
corresponding help string.
aos(config)# line ?
console Console related configuration
vty Virtual terminal line information related
configuration
Some of the basic concepts implemented for the context sensitive help are:
l The next possible tokens are listed only in the lexical order and not in the
order as available in the syntax or command structure.
l All possible tokens are listed along with the help string, even though the
command is ambiguous. Any ambiguous command errors and value
range errors are taken care only during the execution of the command.
l The help tokens provided within <> brackets denotes that the user should
input values of specified format. For example, <string(32)> represents
that the user should input a string of size varying from 1 to 32.
l The help tokens provided within () brackets denotes that the user should
input only the values represented. For example, (1-4094) represents that
the user should input value within the mentioned range alone.
l The format is directly provided as help token for some non-keyword such
as IP address, IP mask , MAC address and so on. For example,
aa:aa:aa:aa:aa:aa represents that a MAC address of this format should
be provided.
l The help token along with the help string explaining the operation of the
command is displayed, if the command can be executed at that point
(errors are handled only during the execution).

CLI Command Modes

The following table format lists the different CLI command modes. Depending on the CLI
mode, aos prompt will be specific. This cannot be changed by the end user.
For example; If aos label is ABC and the command mode is Global Configuration, the
prompt display will be ABC (config) #

User EXEC Mode

After logging into the device, users at privilege level 0-1 are automatically in the User EXEC
mode. In general, the User EXEC commands are used to temporarily change terminal
settings, perform basic tests and list system information.

Privileged EXEC Mode

Because many of the privileged commands set operating parameters, privileged access is
password protected to prevent unauthorized use. The password is not displayed on the
screen and is case sensitive. The Privileged EXEC mode prompt is the device name followed
by the pound (#) sign.
