    Problem 1.
    A built-up beam made of four planks is shown. Each screw has an allowable shear capacity of
    1.7kN. Calculate the spacing smax; given V = 3.6 kN.

    Answer: 210mm

    Problem 2.

    A tubular element with dout of 220 mm and a material thickness of 5 mm is subjected to the
    loads shown.
    (a) Determine the normal and shear stresses at the point H.
    (b) Determine the normal and shear stresses at the point K.

    Answer: (a) σ=396.0 MPa τ=31.69 MPa (b) σ=91.40 MPa τ=58.33 MPa
