Introduction
The rise of social media influencers had several positive and negative
impacts on our environment. Influencers have helped to promote global
understanding and tolerance. They also helped to break down barriers between
different cultures and communities. There are a lot of good contributions that the
influencers made to our environment that helped us to improve and enhance our
community. But on the other hand, influencers can also be criticized by other
people. There are a lot of reasons but some reasons are they are being accused
of misleading their followers and making bad comments just because they are
promoting something that the followers don't like.
Even though there are some hard times, the rise of global people and
influencers is a positive development. It shows a more interconnected and
inclusive world. Having these will boost courage and confidence for people or
communities that may have been traditionally marginalized as well.
Research Questions:
- How has the development of technology, particularly the internet and
social media, changed how people live, work, and interact throughout the
world?
- What part do social media influencers play in fostering international
connections, and how do they advance mutual understanding and the
sharing of cultural values?
- What good effects have social media influencers had on the global
community, breaking down cultural and regional barriers?
- What are the criticisms and issues with social media influencers,
specifically with reference to possible disinformation and the effect of
sponsored material on followers?
- And how does this impact their reputation with their followers? How can
social media influencers strike a balance between endorsing products, and
how does this affect their credibility among their followers?
Theoretical framework
Mediascape
– “refer both to the distribution of electronic capabilities to produce and
disseminate information (newspapers, magazines, television stations and film
production studios) which are now available to a growing number of private and
public interests throughout the world, and to the images of the world created by
these media” (p. 330). “Tend to be imagecentered, narrative-based accounts of
strips of reality (Appadurai, 1990, p. 331)”.
Conceptual Idea/s
Methodology
1. Literature Review:
● Conduct a thorough review of existing literature on the rise of global
influencers, internet culture, and social media platforms.
● Identify key studies, academic papers, and reputable sources that provide
insights into the evolution of global influencers.
● Summarize and synthesize relevant information from the literature to
establish a foundation for the research.
3. Case Studies:
● Choose specific influencers as case studies, considering factors like
geographical diversity, niche, and content format.
● Select influencers whose journeys exemplify the global impact of internet
culture.
● Conduct in-depth analyses of the selected influencers, exploring their
content strategies, engagement metrics, and the ways they connect with a
global audience.
5. Data Gathering:
● Develop an online survey or look for existing data to gather quantitative
data on audience demographics, preferences, and the perceived impact of
influencers.
● Share the survey across relevant online communities and platforms to
ensure a diverse sample.
● Analyze survey responses to identify trends, correlations, and insights
related to the influence of global people in the age of the internet.
6. Ethnographic Research:
● Immerse in online communities and forums related to internet culture,
influencers, and global trends.
● Participate in discussions, observe interactions, and document cultural
nuances.
● Use ethnographic insights to enrich the understanding of how internet
culture shapes the rise of global influencers.
7. Comparative Analysis:
● Select influencers with similar and contrasting characteristics for
comparative analysis.
● Compare influencers based on factors such as content style, engagement
strategies, and cultural relevance.
● Conduct a detailed comparative analysis to identify commonalities and
distinctions in the rise of global influencers.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the rise of global influencers in the internet age has both
positive and negative impacts on society and the environment, transforming how
people live and connect globally. Social media influencers contribute significantly
to fostering international connections, breaking down cultural barriers, and
sharing cultural values.
The Mediascape framework captures the dynamic influencer landscape,
where digital communication technologies enable the swift flow of media across
borders, shaping global perceptions and cultural trends. The transformative
power of influencers through Mediascapes emphasizes the need for responsible
content creation and ethical practices.

Hi! My name is Caila, a 21 year old 3rd year student taking up Communication
Arts at DLSU. I started content creation during the pandemic when I enjoyed
making coffee and shared it online. I noticed how a lot of people loved the videos
I posted so after a few months, I started collaborating with brands and shared my
recommendations, thoughts, recipes, and the like. After some time I started to
share different aspects of my life as well like the concerts I attend as well as my
life as a Student Jock of Monster RX 93.1.
I identify myself as a Food and Beverage content creator so the content I create
would mainly focus on my love for coffee and how I enjoy trying different cafes
and restaurants around the metro. I also give in to the newest food and drink
trends and try them for myself. I have also worked with a few brands such as
Nescafe, UCC, Magnum, B Coffee, Nespresso, Pepsi, Milksha, and a lot more.
However, I also love sharing not just my coffee addiction but also my other
interests such as KPop and going to different concerts so I also share my
fancams and concert stories. There are times I would also post about me going
on air from the radio which I also enjoy.
Yes! I felt this as I was starting and how even people from other countries would
interact with my content and try the recipes I would post on Tiktok. Early on in the
pandemic, I experimented a lot with different concoctions and I would see
comments and recreations from the drinks I would post. I love how I got to
connect with people even from miles away.
I think that negative feedback will always be part of life. There were instances
where people would comment malicious things whenever I would go live on
Tiktok. It never really affected me deeply as I always considered negative
feedback as noise that should not be entertained. I know for myself the kind of
person and the kind of influencer that I am so I just accepted constructive
criticism towards me.
As a content creator, I would say being up to date with all the trends and latest
hits plays a vital role in terms of engagement and publicity. You would always
want to share parts of your life but at the same time be relatable to your audience
which is why it is important to use your platform well in order to be an effective
influencer. I always try my best to read and consume content that can all the
more help me be of better influence to my viewers. There are times I would
exchange thoughts with my peers that allow me to widen my perspective on
trends. The different social media platforms also enable me to show different
sides of myself as I share different things on different platforms as trends and
issues always vary from one platform to another.
I make it a point to always be confident and sure with the content I share out
there. Knowing cancel culture is rampant in social media, I want to be an
influencer with credibility, authenticity, and trustworthiness. That is why I refrain
from sharing content I am not sure about and always go back to my purpose
which excludes creating chaos and negativity online.
Although I am very far from really connecting with a wider audience, I hold onto
who I am and always stick to my being. At the end of the day, I want my
personality to come across the screen and at the same time leave me the
amount of privacy I want to have. I want to be a content creator that the viewers
can rely on and someone they feel like they can be friends with. I want to be
someone they can go to for food and drink recommendations as well as be of
inspiration to a lot of people!

My name is Khalil Ramos, and I'm both an actor and a content creator with over
a decade's experience in the entertainment industry since 2011. My journey into
social media and influencer marketing began during the early stages of my
career in showbiz. Witnessing the emergence of social media as a pivotal
platform for artists, I recognized its potential to amplify our reach by collaborating
with brands and participating in their campaigns.
I ensure that my actions align with my words. Declining campaigns that contradict
my beliefs or don't align with my lifestyle is crucial. I've declined numerous
partnerships in the past when they didn't resonate with my values.

Yes, but looking into the business side of it— It has been a mater of catering &
making a strong impact towards brands, marketing agencies, companies & PR
Agencies; making them my TARGET audience. By far, my contents leaving an
impact is only the smallest part & a bonus point as far as I could say. In terms of
facts, what leaves a mark is your overall presence & assets in & out of the videos
you make: Wit, Communication & Negotiation Skills, A Flamboyant Personality,
Dedication & Commitment… Lastly, the ability to discern who to connect with &
market yourself to.
By far, the challenge that I face is running out of ideas & the words to say… And,
the pressure that the question “WHAT SHOULD I DO TODAY TO REMAIN
RELEVANT?” brings; and making sure the ideas I have in mind would still align
with my beliefs & decorum. When it comes to criticisms & negative feedback, it
personally has been a matter of accepting that every content I put out on my
platforms are already the property of my audiences, the property of the public
viewers… With that being said, every time I press upload button— They have
already been given the liberty to say & comment what they want, to share the
videos to whoever & to do what they want with my contents.
When it comes to staying relevant, you have to adapt & ride onto the changes
that are taking place in every social media platform you’re in. One thing i’ve
noticed is that every time I don’t keep up with what’s relevant, my contents would
automatically be left behind, views would drop & engagements would lessen.
It is true that influence comes with great responsibility, but lately I have been
learning that even accountability has its limit in order to protect my own mental
peace. To me, keeping myself accountable means owning up whatever I do or
say & executing proper decorum & sticking to my beliefs without intentionally /
unintentionally stepping on other people or in other words, committing cyber
crime. But as i’ve answered in the previous question, everything you upload is
the property of your audience. They are the judge. Which means, people will say
or comment whatever they want to say regardless of what you do, may it be nice
or unkind. And, yes… Sometimes you have to listen to your audience &
sometimes you don’t. You are not accountable for what everybody feels or say,
so that’s where the discernment of when you need to take accountability comes
in. If something wrong has been said by you, OWN IT.
The legacy or the message I wanna leave is simple… NEVER take yourself too
seriously because life is short & nobody cares. Live, laugh, love, cry, make
mistakes, learn, act stupid, be funny! Never let the fear of criticisms hold you
back from showing your HEART. Every time I make people smile, every time I
move people with what I say & every time I share a laughter with someone I
barely even know. The moment I see & feel those, I have already measured the
impact i bring to the lives of my audiences.

SAM: With each question, we aim to see different perspectives on how the
impact of social media influencers can benefit a global audience and at the same
time delve deeper into the minds of one who creates content for a living. Its also
important to hear the intentions of the influencers for their audience which is an
important part of the whole thing.
Was there ever an instance where you felt your content had a particularly strong
impact on your global audience?
Influencers create diverse content, including lifestyle, fashion, beauty, travel, and more,
tailored to engage their audience. This content impacts their global audience in several
ways: such as Cultural influence, trendsetting, Social Advocacy, Brand Awareness and
etc. An advantage an audience can get from watching content of influencers can be
learning new things. One instance where my content resonated strongly with a
global audience was a series about restoring a car alongside my father. Posting
this content on TikTok and YouTube enabled it to reach a vast audience,
especially capturing the interest of people from the Western world, due to the
universal appeal of car restoration. Which would have a certain impact on
automobile collectors and car owners that would change they way they view car
restoration because of the information that was given in the video. And with caila
Because of this, people who watch
her content learned new ways to make different drinks that they might even be
using for the rest of their lives.
The next question being What challenges have you faced as an influencer,
especially in terms of criticisms or negative feedback?Influencers might discuss
strategies for dealing with negative comments or feedback. This could include methods
such as ignoring trolls, responding diplomatically, or even using criticism as an
opportunity for improvement. Some influencers might express the challenge of
balancing authenticity with the demands of sponsored content. Maintaining credibility
while promoting products or services can be a delicate balance. As Khalil Ramos states
as he answers this question, Maintaining authenticity is a priority in all my
endeavors. A notable challenge arises when collaborating with new or unfamiliar
brands. Balancing the need to portray familiarity with a brand's products while
staying genuine to my audience can be demanding.
ANTONETTE: The next question is How has the rise of certain different social
media platforms or even trends, affect they way you create your content?
Influencers may discuss how the features and audience preferences of different social
media platforms influence their content creation. For instance, the rise of short-form
video content on platforms like TikTok might prompt influencers to adapt their content
style to suit the platform's format. Laurence states as he answers the question When it
comes to staying relevant, you have to adapt & ride onto the changes that are
taking place in every social media platform you’re in. One thing i’ve noticed is
that every time I don’t keep up with what’s relevant, my contents would
automatically be left behind, views would drop & engagements would lessen and
same goes for Caila. However, Khalil Ramos goes against this as he believes
that his audience follows him for who he is and the kind of content that he always
has been creating. He answers While I believe in staying true to myself, I
acknowledge the evolving landscape of social media. I don't always conform to
every online trend, as I prioritize authenticity and connection with a genuine
audience.
MIKEY :The next question is How do you hold yourself accountable for the
messages you share and the influence you wield? Influencers might discuss their
commitment to ethical content creation, emphasizing transparency, honesty, and
integrity. They may share how they verify information before sharing it, ensuring that
their content aligns with values that promote positive engagement. This information
signals to the global audience that the influencer prioritizes ethical considerations,
fostering trust and credibility. responsibility to ensure that promoted items align with
their values and are genuinely beneficial to their audience. This information provides
transparency about the influencer's approach to sponsored content, influencing the
audience's perception of the influencer's credibility. Like Khalil ramos states that I
ensure that my actions align with my words. Declining campaigns that contradict
my beliefs or don't align with my lifestyle is crucial. I've declined numerous
partnerships in the past when they didn't resonate with my values. However
some people view it differently like Laurence as he think that it is not up to him
whether or not people will be influenced by his content but states that if he knows
he has done something wrong, he has to own up to it. He states that everything
you upload is the property of your audience. They are the judge. Which means,
people will say or comment whatever they want to say regardless of what you do,
may it be nice or unkind. And, yes… Sometimes you have to listen to your
audience & sometimes you don’t. You are not accountable for what everybody
feels or say, so that’s where the discernment of when you need to take
accountability comes in.
