    The mandible, or lower jaw, is the largest and strongest bone in the face. It consists of a body, ramus, condylar process, coronoid process, and angle. Teeth are embedded in the mandible's alveolar processes. The mandible articulates with the temporal bone at the temporomandibular joint. This joint is a synovial joint that allows for hinge-like opening and closing movements and is surrounded by ligaments. The mandibular branch of the trigeminal nerve innervates the mandible, supplying sensation.
