At the end of the learning activity, the students should be able to:

1. identify ways of storing tools and equipment;


2. explain proper ways of storing tools and equipment; and
3. appreciate the value of proper storage of tools and equipment.

STORING OF TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

Every workplace especially nail salon needs to be well coordinated to


ensure effective and productive service to its client. One way to accomplish this
objective is by doing adequate storage of resources and equipment. Nail salon
personnel must ensure that the following standards are met for the storage of tools
and equipment.

1. Combustible and flammable materials are kept away from possible ignition
sources such as an open flame or electrical system.

2. All nail care chemicals and ingredients are kept in closed bottles and
containers and properly labeled to avoid mistake in product application.

3. All cabinets and drawers must be clean, sealed and dust proofed where clean
towels and other linens are stored.

4. Implements which have been used by the client are not placed in a container
with clean implements. Soiled implements in any manner are placed in a
properly labeled covered receptacle until disinfected.
5. Used and soiled disposable materials shall be deposited in a clean, closed
waste receptacle immediately.

6. Sanitized implements are stored in a clean closed container or drawer until


used.

7. Use an organizer to hold lotions and creams.

4. Reduce movement. Handling effort is reduced if the often-used materials and
supplies are within reach.
5. Safety of personnel and client is ensured.
6. Maintain enough supplies and materials inventory.

Proper storage and movement within the context of occupational health and
safety is essential for the prevention of workplace injuries and accidents.
