BENEFITS OF GOOD HOUSEKEEPING

Someone visits a salon for relaxation and to reduce tension. But imagine this!
You come to visit a salon to get a hand spa treatment and as you enter the salon,
hair and other salon tools and materials are scattered all over the place. There are
wax strips and creams spilling from the bottle. Remember you went to the salon to
relax but ended up feeling stressed. Are you going to come back to this salon again?
Definitely not! A salon that is not well maintained stands to lose its clients and is
sure to shut down sooner or later. Housekeeping is a prerequisite to maintain
excellent standards of a salon.
Effective housekeeping is keeping a place of work in an organized, uncluttered

and hazard-free environment. Although this is a fairly simple idea, the benefits that
good housekeeping practices can bring, are far reaching and affect not only the
worker’s safety but also their health and productivity. If health and productivity is
improved, operating costs is lowered thereby providing benefits to the workers and
the employers. Furthermore, effective housekeeping promotes safety and security to
clients.
1. Improved worker safety

✓ Less incidents of trips and slips where walkways and working surfaces
are free of clutters and spills.
✓ Decreased fire hazards as a result of elimination of waste, dusts, debris
and other flammable materials.
✓ Reduced number of employees hit by an object by careful and organized
storage of tools and equipment.
✓ Less injuries to staff as a result of defective and malfunctioning parts
by prompt servicing of machines, equipment or systems.
2. Improved Health of Staffs and Visitor/ Client

✓ Decreased number of worker and client exposure to harmful
substances, such as dust and vapor build up by regular cleaning
schedule.
✓ Working condition and health of worker is improved through regular
servicing, cleaning and supplying sanitation facilities.
3. Increased Worker Productivity / Reduced Costs

✓ Better control over tools and materials as well as the inventory of
supplies.
✓ Better hygienic conditions leading to improved health.
✓ Improved worker morale and increased productivity is a result of a safe
work environment.
✓ Effective use of space because of orderly and clean work.
✓ Property damage can be reduced through improved preventive
maintenance.

the workload and expense of the managerial workers.

✓ Minimized respiratory irritants is achieved by wiping surfaces and
cleaning upholstery.
5. Appearance of Professionalism
✓ A clean workplace is an expression that the employer values his
personnel and clients as well as his enterprise.
If nail salon practices good housekeeping, it results to effective and efficient

workers and loyal clients. The success of a nail salon or any business organization
can hinge on a clean and orderly working environment.
