Certificate of Submission
This is to certify that Gopal , Parthiv , Suvam , Aditya ,
Vinil , Abhiram of Vikas-The Concept School studying
in Class XII have successfully completed the ALS based
Project Portfolio for the academic session 2023-2024
under the guidance of Ms. Usha R

Internal Examiner
Acknowledgement

We would like to take this opportunity to

express our sincere gratitude to our
English teacher Ms. Usha R for guiding
us through the course of the project.
Objectives
● Plastics are referred to as both a boon and a bane .

● The increasing amount of Plastic and Polythene wastes

are major environmental concerns . Nations across the
world are calling for ban on plastics and polythene
bags.

● In this Project we are going to study about the impact of

plastics on the environment , Human Rights abuses that
occur throughout the life cycle of plastics and the False
Solution of Plastic recycling.
Action Plan
● We formed a whatsapp group to discuss ideas collectively

● The theme was decided after thorough research

● We collected information from various credible sources

● The final report was compiled after consulting with the English
teacher.

● We submitted the Project on 18th November 2023

Report : Introduction
Plastic has become one of the most
common and convenient substances in
our modern world. Especially when it
comes to food packaging and food
storage, plastic has infiltrated the market,
frequently used for everyday items like
storing leftovers, bottled water, and baby
bottles. However, plastic contains
thousands of harmful compounds that
have the potential to disrupt your
hormones, metabolism, and brain.
Questionnaire
1)Where do people dispose plastic wastes?

2)What techniques are used to control plastic pollution?

3) Explain briefly about the importance of plastic

4)What are the effects of plastic on human body?

5) What is the current trend in plastic use?

Report : Importance of plastic
Plastic has become one of the most common and
convenient substances in our modern world.

Especially when it comes to food packaging and food

storage, plastic has infiltrated the market, frequently
used for everyday items like storing leftovers, bottled
water, and baby bottles.

However, plastic contains thousands of harmful

compounds that have the potential to disrupt your
hormones, metabolism, and brain.
Report : Decomposition of plastic
Plastic takes lot of time to decompose.
This means that all plastic that has ever
been produced and has ended up in the
environment is still present there in one
form or another. Plastic production is
booming since the 1950s. For this reason,
and as plastic is non-biodegradable, there
is a build-up or accumulation of plastic as
more and more is released into the
environment. So what happens to plastic
in the oceans? It accumulates in certain
places due to rain, wind, or ocean currents,
but some of it might simply stay in places
where plastic waste is dumped.
Report : Surge in Plastic Menace
Plastic production keeps growing at
a rapid pace.About half of all plastic
on earth has been produced in the
last thirteen years.
If the current trend continues,
around the year 2050, there will be
about twelve billion tons of plastic in
landfills and in the environment..
Plastic consumption has
quadrupled over the past 30 years
Report : Newspaper cuttings
Report : How Sikkim fought plastic
Sikkim, which in 1998 became the first Indian state to
ban disposable plastic bags, is also among the first to
target single-use plastic bottles.

Studies by Delhi-based Toxics Link and Pune-based

eCoexist NGOs conducted in 2014 and 2018,
respectively, showed that, despite the continued use of
plastic bags, Sikkim has fared quite well in the
implementation of its green policies. eCoexist study
found that around 66 percent of shops in Sikkim used
paper bags or newspapers and around 34 percent used
plastic bags, which includes non-woven bags.
Report : Plastic man of India
● Rajagopalan Vasudevan is also called as the
'Plastic Man of India' who has found a way to
reuse plastic waste
● He developed an innovative method to reuse
plastic waste to construct better, more durable
and very cost-effective roads
● The construction of every kilometre of road
required nine tonnes of bitumen and one
tonne of plastic waste. This means for every
kilometre of road, one tonne bitumen is
saved, which costs about Rs 30,000.

R. VASUDEVAN
● As of July 2021, 703 kilometres of national
highways have been built using this
technology.
Reflection
Plastic has to be carefully until completely replaced by better
alternatives
We must follow the 5rs While using Plastics

● Refuse: Refuse to buy plastics and its products which harms us

and the environment
● Reduce:Reduce the use of plastic bags and use cloth bags or jute
bags as a substitute
● Recycle:Plastics goods which can be subjected to a chemical
process to recycle them should be used as they can be
recycled back to the new form again.( More and more packaging
is harder and more expensive to recycle because of the type of
plastic used or because the packaging is made by laying
different materials together).
● Reuse:Reuse old plastic bags while shopping
● Repurpose:Repurpose is the process of using plastics for
another purpose
