Troubleshooting

1.13 Aligning the light field to the radiation field

1.13.1 Operating sequence
Load a 24 Cm x 30 cm or 10” x12 “cassette with film and place it on a table or a similar
base. Using the collimator tape, measure and set a SID of 100cm to the upper edge of the
cassette. Using slide flaps collimate 18 cm x 24 cm or 8”x 10”.
Switch on the Collimator Lamp and align the cassette. Attach radio-opaque markings to
the cassette as shown. Attach a washer as lateral marking. Trigger an exposure with
60kV, 8mAs and develop the film.
Using a waterproof felt pen, write the following data on the developed film.
o set SID
o Film size
o Radiation filed size
o Light field size

1.13.2 Evaluation
Measure the deviations between light field edges and radiation field edges on all four
sides (X1, X2, Y1, Y2).
Determine the total deviations in the X and Y direction (ignore the +/- signs).
Both, length deviation ( Y) and width deviation ( X) must be less than 1.6 cm.
If the deviation is higher, loosen the 4 screws slightly and move the collimator
accordingly. Then, tighten the screws at the collimator again.
Repeat the check and, if necessary, adjust the collimator again until the deviation
between the light field and the radiation field is within the tolerance (< 2 cm).
1.14 Replacing the Collimator lamp
Loosen the screw of the clamp which has marked for light indication on the collimator.
Take out the defective lamp and replace it by a new lamp.

Caution: Do not touch the glass envelope with your bare fingers.

Check function of the lamp.

Wiring Description

1 Wiring Description
1.1 Turning on the unit
When the supply (415 V) is turned on, the supply is given to the transformer T2.
The secondary voltages developed are used for the generators interface and
controls various functions like AR, External exposure, bucky, etc. The 24 V that is
generated is used on the D801 to operate the different relays on the D801. The
other 24V is used for operation of the collimator.
When the ON switch on the D936 is operated it causes relay K5 to pick, in turn
causing K4 to pickup. This results in Contactor NS to pick up and hence the 220 V
from K2.2 is supplied to the Rectifier V1, D980 SMPS & the filament inverter circuit.
Initially the capacitor bank is charged via the NS contacts -83, 84 in series with the
Resistor R1. After 9 seconds K3 energizes & LS contactor picks up thus bypassing
the resistor R1 via contacts 13-14, 33-34, 43-44 all in parallel.

Line filter input (phase and neutral) is connected to the LN contacts-13 and NS
contacts-23 respectively. The output of the line filter (P, N) is connected to the X1
connector (pin1, 4) of the filament inverter circuit. The line filter is used to enhance
the performance of the D801 PCB by suppressing the spike and surges on the
main line and also to provide protection to the filament PCB D801.

1.2 Turning Off the unit

When the Off Switch on the D936 is operated Relay K1 picks up and de-energizing
K5 on the D801 thus NS drops & hence the unit is turned off.
1.3 Anode rotation Principle
The 240V AC supply for the rotating anode circuit is obtained by operation of the relay
K2.
The rotating anode circuit consists of triacs which act as switching devices.
The conduction of these triacs result in AC voltage of 240V appearing at X3.1 and
X3.2 with respect X3.3. The X3.3 is connected to 0V through relay K2. X3.1 is
connected to the main winding via a 10µF capacitor in series and X3.2 is connected to
the auxiliary winding of stator. This helps in providing the required phase shift
between the two windings. The application of 240V AC supply at X3.1 and X3.2 w.r.t.
X3.3 starts anode rotation.
A DC voltage is made to flow through the winding and used for breaking the rotating
anode after Exposure.
1.4 High Tension Transformer
The output of the inverter circuit is applied to the H.T. transformer primary at UV in
series with the capacitor C5/C6, through the D900A card mounted on the top of HT
transformer. The secondary voltage of this is then applied to the two voltage
doubler circuit’s consisting of diode and capacitor combinations which steps up the
voltage to four times the secondary voltage, 50 % of the KV built up is applied at

Wiring Description

the anode as PKV (positive) via the H.T. Cables & the other 50% built is applied at
the Cathode as NKV (negative) of the X-ray tube via the H.T. Cables. The Damping
resistors (4* 5.1K) in series with the high Voltage are used to limit current flow in
the secondary circuit in case of tube arcing takes place.
The Resistance thick films (200 M ohms) appear in the feedback circuitry in series
with a 20 KOhms resistor which functions as a voltage divider for the voltage being
applied across the tube .The voltage developed across the 20kohms resistors’ are
used as the feedback voltage to the D915/D915A card.
The four spark gaps used helps in prevention of voltage building above 90V to
protect the D915/D915A & the Filament circuit.

Master Card D915

2 Master Card D915

2.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Master Card D915 forms the main closed loop control system in the entire
X ray generator MULTIPHOS 15.
2.2 FUNCTION DESCRIPTION
The functions performed by D915 are as follows:
1. The microcontroller 80552 (J31) on D915 executes the program which makes
the X-ray generator work. J31 generates control signals and receives command
signals for the control of most the activities of MULTIPHOS 15.
2. The EPROM stores the entire bios software.
3. The Nonvolatile RAM stores all the temporary variables while execution of the
main program. Even at power OFF, it stores the last display-data.
4. The peripheral IC’s along with J31 are used for generation of the driving
signals for
1. Main Inverter
2. Filament Inverter
3. Rotating Anode.
Additionally the peripheral IC’s receive the feedback signals from the output
Processes and feed it back to J31 for taking proper corrective action.
5. The faults such as accidental short circuit, mismatching of the actual value and
the reference value of KV, mA or ms, improper operation of any process are
reported to the Master card for indicating error to the operator and for taking
necessary action, if feasible.
6. The functions performed by D915 are as follows:
a) Accepting the key pressed by the operator through D936
b) Display the proper Radiography and Fluoroscopy data through D932 and
D930 respectively.
c) Generating the reference values of KV (KVS) and mA (JRS) and converting
them to the driving pulses of the Main and the Filament Inverter.
d) Accepting actual values of the set parameters and regulating the required
parameters.
2.2.1 POWER SUPPLY
The +15, 0V, -15V and +5V, 0V voltages are obtained from the SMPS through the
Connector X 15.
The +Vp supply of 15V is obtained through X10 from the power card D801.
The reference voltage for the Microcontroller (J31) is 5V and it is generated by
R119 , C85, and J30.
2.2.2 RESET GENERATION
The RST/ signal is generated by IC J40 (MAX 700: power supply monitor with
reset) at power ON. The switch SW2 also allows for manual reset of the system.
On actuating SW2 ON, reset is generated by J40 which is applied to RST/ pin of
J31.

DL_SERV, ON / OFF, GR, RESET, BUZ) are accepted on the data bus through
J38 and J37at the address 9000H.
2.2.10 DISPLAY(RADIOGRAPHY)
The data bus, the control signal WR/ and the chip select signal CS2/ are provided
to the Display Driver J24 on D932 through X1.Writing the control word and the
string of 8 byte data at the addresses 8000H and 8800H respectively displays the
KV and mAs values and lights up function related Led’s on D915.
2.2.11 SERIAL COMMUNICATION
TXD and RXD are provided to the serial communication port of D915.Varous
activities of the unit can be controlled by an external device such as a PC or a
pocket terminal. The serial port is meant for testing and service purposes.
2.2.12 kV soll and mA soll
The KV soll and mA soll values are generated by Dual Digital to Analog Converter
J17 and the Opamp J13 acting as I - V converter.
The microcontroller J31 outputs the digital values of KV soll and mA soll on the
data bus at address A000H (CS3/) and A100H (CS4/) respectively. The reference
current for DAC is adjusted by means of presets P6 and P7.
The KV soll and mA soll are fed back to the AN3 and AN4 pins of J31 for ensuring
their proper values. These soll values are also used for regulation of KV and mA.
The KV soll ratio is 1 V = 30 KV and The mA soll ratio is 1 V = 50 mA
2.2.13 kV FEEDBACK
The actual KVp across the tube is stepped down and fed back in the form of KV/2+
and KV/2- to the Master card D915 at pins 1and 2 as PKV and NKV respectively
with respect to the common terminal at pin 3.
PKV and NKV are passed through the voltage follower J5 and then fed to the
Differential Amplifier formed by J5 to produce Kvist, which is used for KV regulation
(KVist ratio is 1V= 20 KV)
KV ist is fed back to AN7of J31 for monitoring purpose.
2.2.14 IH FEEDBACK
The Filament current (Ih) feedback is taken from the Filament Inverter and Rotation
PCB D801 through X11.1.J7 provides a gain of 5 to Ih.
The AC Filament current Iheiz is converted into DC value Ih by RMS - DC converter
J6.J9 provides an appropriate gain to Ih (that can be adjusted by preset P5)
So that the ratio 1V = 2A holds true. Ih is fed back to J31 at AN2 for monitoring
purpose; the same is used for Ih regulation.
2.2.15 mA FEEDBACK
The tube current (JR) is fed back in the form of voltages P+ and N- at pins 5 and 6
of X8 on D915. P+ and N- are applied to the Differential Amplifier formed by J4.

Master Card D915

The output JR represents the actual tube current mAist which is fed back to J31 at
AN1 through J9 for monitoring purpose. JR is also used for tube current regulation.
2.2.16 kV REGULATION
The KV soll and KV ist values are fed to the P-I controller formed by IC J10.
The difference between the KVist and KV soll value is amplified to produce an
appropriate error output, so as to compensate the error. The zener V12 limits the
maximum output voltage of the error amplifier to 10V.
The error amplifier output is fed to PLL IC J3 which is used as voltage to frequency
converter.
The J10 output voltage produces an equivalent frequency REG at J3 output.
For 10V, REG (the maximum firing frequency of the Main Inverter) is 16 kHz.
J3 is enabled by an active low INH2 signal provided by the microcontroller J31 at
P4.1 through J23.During HT, J3 is enabled through INH2 and J3 results in a firing
frequency of Main Inverter IGBTs, to result in actual KV in line with the required
value.
2.2.17 FILAMENT REGULATION
Filament Regulation is divided into two parts

1. Regulation without high voltage: The filament current Ih is regulated. The CPU
J31 outputs required filament current value on input of DAC.
2. The actual tube current JR is regulated. J31 outputs the required tube current on
the input of DAC. Depending upon whether the regulation is pre HT or post HT
either Ih or JR is selected through HEIZ signal from J31 (P4.4) and used for
regulation together with the corresponding value from the DAC. The output of
the error amplifier J10 is fed to PLL J2 which is configured as voltage to
frequency converter. The PLL J2 is enabled through INH1 signal from J31 (P4.0)
and generates a frequency in line with the output of error amplifierJ10 to result in
required filament current or the tube current.
2.2.18 mAS INTEGRATION
The actual tube current is applied to the input of V-F converter J1. The transfer
ratio (Frequency to Voltage) of J1 is adjusted by preset P1. The preset P2 is used
for adjusting the offset at the output. The output frequency is selected by J8 only
when the KVist reaches 75% of its final value.
The output of J8 is fed to J31 as timer 0 clock .The timer 0 inside J31 is configured
as timer counter which is preloaded with a count equivalent to mAs value. The
incoming clock decrements the counter and on reaching ‘0’, generates an interrupt
to terminate the exposure.

2.2.19 CONTROL OF THE FIRING FREQUENCIES REG and CAL

REG is controlled by the signals INH2 and INH3 and it is enable only when INH2=0
and INH3=1. CAL is enabled only when INH1 = 0.

Master Card D915
The pulse duration of the actual firing signals of the Main Inverter is decided by the
Monoshot Multivibrator J21 (IC 4538 Dual Monoshot Multivibrator) and R104, C66
and R105, C67.
The RST/ pin of J21 are normally high for its proper operation.
The outputs of J21 at pins 6 and 10 are out of phase. These signals are optically
Isolated by J39 and J41 and fed to the Main Inverter Driver (D961 or D960) through
X20.14 and X20.10.
The supply for the isolated output of J39 and J41 is obtained from the Filament
Inverter and Rotation PCB D801.
2.2.19.2 Filament Inverter Firing Frequency
J18 is used to determine the pulse width of the the actual firing signals of the
Filament Inverter. The IC J20 ensures that the firing pulses of the Filament Inverter
are out of phase. These signals are inverted by J22 and fed to the Filament
Inverter firing circuit on D915 through X11.13 and X11.16.
2.2.20 SHORT CIRCUIT FEEDBACKS (SCM, SCH)
2.2.20.1 SCM :( Main Inverter Short Circuit)
During normal operation, the transistor V39 is ON and simultaneously the
optocoupler is also ON.
An active LOW error signal at X20.16 turns V39 and consequently J34 OFF. The
J34 output becomes LOW to give the HIGH SCM (Main Inverter short circuit)
signal.
SCM is inverted by J22 and then it is fed back to the microcontroller J31 for taking
the corrective action.
The three signals SCM, KVM and JIM are used for disabling the Driving pulses of
the Main Inverter. This is done by OR ing of these three signals by J14. At the
occurrence of either of these three signals, RST/ of J21 goes LOW and its output is
disabled.
2.2.20.2 SCH (Filament Inverter Short Circuit)
During the short circuit of either of the two MOSFET’s forming the Filament Inverter
on D801, the short circuit signal generated by the two MOSFET drivers on the
Filament Inverter and Rotation PCB D801 are fed back to the Master card through
X11.12 and X11.14.
SCH is obtained on ORing of these signals by J14. SCH gives an interrupt at (P1.1)
to J31 .
SCH also resets J18, thus disabling the Filament Inverter driving pulses.

2.2.21 KV, MA MAX FEEDBACK (KVM,JIM )

2.2.21.1 KVM (Maximum KV)
If the KVN and KVP values exceed the reference value of 4.54V at J12
(Comparator) its output generates the KVM signal. KVM is also fed back to J31 at
P32 as Timer Zero Interrupt for initiating necessary corrective action like stopping
the exposure instantaneously.
2.2.21.2 JIM (Maximum mA)
An increase in Ih or JR than the reference values of 7.8A for X-ray tube and 250
mA respectively generates JIM.
JIM is fed as T1 interrupt to J31.
2.2.22 GENERATION OF ROTATING ANODE DRIVING AND CONTROL
SIGNALS
J31 generates ARR/ (Accelerate Anode signal) at P4.6 and FR/ (Brake Anode)
at P4.7 respectively. These signals are driven by the driver J23 and are applied to
the optotriacs on D801 through X11.8, X11.10 and X11.7 respectively. The signal
at X11.8 is delayed by R128 and C99 combination to fire the second triac after the
first on D801.
2.2.23 ROTATING ANODE CURRENT FEEDBACKS
From D801, the rotating anode alternating current is fed back in the form of AC
voltage. These feedback voltages are available at X11.5 and X11.3 respectively
and they are applied to J11. J11 limits the negative half of the input signal to
0.7 V while it provides the gain of 3 to the positive half cycle of the input signal.
The I1and I2 signals are as shown in the enclosed sheet.
I1 and I2 are compared with the reference values and then converted into
equivalent DC voltages by V16, R73, C46 and V14, R67, C40 combinations.RT1
and RT2 are the feedback voltages applied to J31 at P1.6 and P1.5 respectively to
ensure proper anode rotation.

2.3.9 Line voltage monitoring

The actual mains Line voltage stepped down & converted to DC and is
monitored every 5 second in standby mode of unit. The line voltage is
displayed during first step of hand release switch for radiography. If the
measured Line voltage is less than 380 volts, FPGA sends one signal to

2.3.11 IH Feedback
The filament current feedback is taken from the Filament Inverter and
Rotation PCB D801 through X11.1.
The AC filament current I(measurable at I test point on D915A) is converted
in DC value IH(measurable at IH test point on D915A) by RMS-DC
converter.
Gain is provided to IH (that can be adjusted by pot R72) so that the ratio 1V
= 2A holds true.
IH is fed back to FPGA through ADC for monitoring purpose and the same is
used for IH regulation.

2.3.12 mA Feedback
The tube current JR(measurable at JR test point on D915A) is fed back in
the form of voltages P+ and N- at pins 5 and 6 of X8 on D915A & is applied
to the Differential Amplifier.
Appropriate gain to JR that can be adjusted by pot R43.
The output JR represents the actual tube current mAist which is fed back to
FPGA through ADC for monitoring purpose and tube current regulation.

2.3.13 kV Regulation
Depending on the kV value selected, it generates kVsoll value internally in
FPGA. When exposure is triggered, the kVsoll and kVist values are fed to
the P-I controller module in the FPGA. The difference between the kVist and
kVsoll value is used to produce an appropriate error output, so as to
compensate the error. The error output produces an equivalent frequency of
inverter firing pulses M_INV1 and M_INV2. This is given as the input to
mains inverter which generates kV.

2.3.14 Filament Regulation

Filament Regulation is divided into two parts:
- Regulation without high voltage: The Filament Inverter firing pulses
F_INV1 and F_INV2 from FPGA depend on the IH or JRist value
depending on whether it is standby state and preparation state or
exposure state.
1) During standby state and preparation state, IH is used for regulation
together with the corresponding value IH set value. IH and IH set are
fed to the PI controller module in FPGA which is in turn, is used to
control the filament current through F_INV1 and F_INV2 pulses.
2) During exposure, the JRsoll and JRist values are fed to the P-I
controller module in the FPGA. The difference between the JRist
and JRsoll value is used to produce an appropriate error output, so

as to compensate the error. The error output produces an

equivalent frequency of filament firing pulses F_INV1 and
F_INV2. Depending on the error signal F_INV1 and F_INV2
frequency changes which in turn changes the firing frequency of
Filament, to result in actual tube(JR) current in line with the
required value. Potentiometer R43 is provided on D915A for setting
and calibrating of JR value.

2.3.15 mAs Integration

The multiplication of mA (tube current) and duration in ms is defined as mAs.
The mAs is controlled by allowing the tube current to flow for fixed interval
which defines the X-Ray radiation dosage. This value is selected by the
user. The FPGA sets the factor depending on the allowable power
dissipation for that time. Minimum possible time for optimum X-Ray tube
power dissipation should be selected to terminate the selected mAs.

2.3.16 Main Inverter Firing Frequency

The Main inverter firing pulses M_INV1(measurable at M_INV1 test point on
D915A) and M_INV2(measurable at M_INV2 test point on D915A) have a
maximum frequency between them to be 16.5 kHz. The pulse width of the
pulses is 43µsec.
The Main inverter firing pulses M_INV1 and M_INV2 are out of phase. These
signals are optically isolated by optocouplers and fed to the Main Inverter
Driver (D961 or D960) through X20.14 and X20.18.
2.3.17 Filament Regulator Firing Frequency
The Filament inverter firing pulses F_INV1(measurable at F_INV1 test point
on D915A) and F_INV2(measurable at F_INV2 test point on D915A) have a
maximum frequency between them to be 20 kHz. The pulse width of the
pulses is 32µsec.
The Filament inverter firing pulses F_INV1 and F_INV2 are out of phase.
These signals are inverted and fed to the Filament regulator firing circuit
through X11.13 and X11.16.

2.3.18 Main Inverter Short Circuit Feedback SCM

During normal operation, the SCM feedback signal from Main Inverter Driver
(D961 or D960) through X20.16 is monitored for active HIGH. An active
LOW error signal at X20.16 results in a LOW SCM (Main Inverter short
circuit) signal to FPGA for taking the corrective action.

X11.14 to the master card master card is high then the filament firing pulses
F_INV1 and F_INV2 are stopped and corresponding error is displayed.

2.3.20 FLASH

4.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This D801 contain electronic circuits for controlling

Filament Inverter

Rotating Anode

NS, LS and LN contactors.

4.2 FUNCTION DESCRIPTION

The voltages provided by D801 to other PCBs are as follows:

1. +15 V (Vp) for Main Inverter driver (D961 (or D960)).

The input supply to D801 is obtained from the Main transformer T2.
When the mains to the unit is switched ON, the 24V AC supply gets applied directly
from the output of the Mains transformer to D801 through connector X1.6 and X1.7
This 24V AC voltage is rectified by V49 (full wave rectifier) and then filtered by
capacitor C21. The DC voltage across C21 is 33V.
J16 (IC LM 317 voltage regulator) is used to provide exact DC voltage of 24V from
33V input .The presence of DC voltage at the output of the regulator J16 is indicated
by LED V50.
4.2.1 ON -- OFF CIRCUIT

The mains ON/ OFF signals and are available at X4.4 and X4.2 These
signals control the relays K5 ( ON) and K1 (OFF) .An additional relay K4 switched
ON by K5 turns the NS contactor ON.
Converter and also as Vp voltage for the Main Inverter Driver D961 ( or D960).
4.2.2 AC -- DC CONVERTER
The two +15Vdc isolated supply voltage is obtained using a step down transformer
(TR1) and a LM317 regulator (J15, J16). The resistors R57, R56 & R60, R59 decide
the output 15 voltage level of the LM317.
The two isolated +15V supply voltages (+VS1 and +VS2) generated are used for the
driver circuit of upper and lower arm of the half bridge filament inverter.
The fuses F8, F9 (200mA) protects against any short circuit in the AC- DC converter.

Filament Inverter & Rotation PCB D801
4.2.3 FILAMENT INVERTER CIRCUIT
The 240V AC supply obtained from X1.1 and X1.4 is rectified using bridge rectifier
V29.The fuse F1 of 6A prevents the overcurrent.
The LED V31 indicates the presence of 240V at the input.
The IGBT’s V11 and V19 along with capacitors C14, C12 and C13, C15 form the Half
Bridge Inverter circuit.
The varistors U7 and U6 are used to suppress the overvoltage spikes.
The thermistors R31 and R32 limit the in rush current in the capacitors.
Led’s V23 and V24 in series with R29 and R30 respectively indicate the presence of
the DC supply of about 330 V to the filament inverter.

The gate pulses for the two IGBT’s are obtained from the Master card (D915/D915A)
through X11(pins 13 and 16). These gate pulses are out of phase.
The optocouplers provide isolation between the power circuit and the digital circuit.
The +15V supply to the input of optocouplers J9, J7, J12, J13 (HCPL 2211) is
obtained through X11.15.

The MOSFET gate drivers J8 and J11 (both IR2121) are used for driving V11 and V19
and also for sensing any short circuit.
The isolated supply of +15V for the drivers (J8, J11) and the optocouplers J9, J7, J11,
J13) is obtained from AC-DC converter.
The frequency of the gate driving signals is determined by CAL in D915(or M_INV1
and M_INV2 in case of D915A).

V20 and V12 are over voltage protection zener diodes for gates of IGBT’s. V8 and
V18 are the free wheeling diodes. The current flows through these diodes when
IGBT’s across them are OFF.
V14 and V22 avoid excessive voltage (above 440V) appearing across each IGBT
when the other IGBT turns OFF. The filament inverter output current flows through the
primary winding of the filament transformer though X5.1 and X5.2.

4.2.3.1 Short circuit Detection and Protection

IGBT Drivers IR2121 senses any short circuit in the filament inverter. The current
sensing resistors R17 and R23 are connected in the path of the filament current. The
drop across these resistors is sensed for detecting any short circuit. If voltage at pin
CS (current sense) of IR2121 increases above 0.23V then ERR signal is generated by
it and the driving pulses at the output are disabled.

An 8.2V zener diode is connected at pin 3(ERR) of IR2121 to detect the error signal in
case of short circuit, the capacitors C3,C10 connected at the ERR pins of J8 and J11

Filament Inverter & Rotation PCB
D801

4.2.3.2 Filament current (Ih) Feedback

The Transformer T4 (turns ratio 100:1) is used for sensing the primary filament
current. The drop across R13 is sensed and fed to the master card through X11.1 and
X11.2 for current (Ih) regulation.

4.2.4 ROTATING ANODE CIRCUIT

The 240V AC supply for the rotating anode circuit is obtained at ‘A’ the relay K2 turns
ON. The fuse F3 of rating 2.5A prevents the overcurrent. The LED V32 gives the
indication of the input supply.

The rotating anode circuit consists of triacs V1 and V5 which act as a switching
device. The drive to these triacs is obtained from the optotriacs J1 and J3 and these
are controlled by the signals from the Master card. +15V supply is provided through
X11.9 to the optotriacs.

The acceleration signal ARR (logic LOW) at X11.10 and X11.8 causes J1 and J3 to
conduct which in turns provides the gate firing pulses to the main Triacs V1 and V5.
The signal applied at X11.8 is delayed in the Master card. The conduction of these
Triacs result in AC voltage of 240V appearing at X3.1 and X3.2 with respect X3.3.
X3.3 is connected to 0V through relay K2. X3.1 is connected to the main winding
through a 10µF capacitor and X3.2 is connected to the auxiliary winding of stator.
The application of 240V AC supply at X3.1 and X3.2 w.r.t. X3.3 starts anode rotation.
The current I1 flows through main winding and current I2 flows through auxiliary
winding of the stator. The braking signal (FR: logic LOW) turns J5 ON which fires the
Triac V5 in one half cycle due to diode V4. The DC voltage at the output of Triac V5 is
used for breaking the rotating anode. The metal oxide varistors U1 and U2 protect the
Triacs from high voltage surges.

4.2.4.1 Rotating Anode Current Feedback

The current transformers T1 and T2 are used for tacking the feedback of stator
winding I1 and I2. The drop across resistors R1 and R2 connected at the
secondary of current transformers is sensed and fed to the Master card through
X11.3, X11.4 (I1) and X11.5, X11.6 (I2) for detecting the errors.

4.2.5 CONTROL SIGNALS FOR THE RELAYS

+24V DC supply is provided to the control coils of the relays K3, K2, CS1 and K6
through the optocouplers J4, J6, J2 and J10. The optocouplers J4, J6, and J2 are
driven by the signals from the Master card. The optocoupler J10 is driven by signal
generated from the on board RC Delay circuit. The relay K2 controls the supply 240V
AC to the rotating anode circuit. K3 is used for making the contactor LS ON. CS1 is
used for making the contactor LN when the line voltage drops below 380V. The Relay

K6 is used for disconnecting the Inrush Current Limiter (NTC1) after the Capacitors
C8 and C9 are charged upto more than 95% of (1.414 x Supply Line Voltage).
(Note: Components K6, J10 and NTC1 are valid from D801 circuit Diagram ver.05)

4.2.6 VOLTAGE MONITORING SIGNAL

Unregulated DC Power Supply 33V dc from the output of V49 is used and attenuated
to 3.7V (approx) at 420V input AC. Attenuation is achieved by resistor network (R51
and P1 on D801) and Op-amp J17.Output of this Op-amp is fed to D915/D915A
through X10.17 and this V_BAT signal is fed to Master Card and this signal is polled
for every 5 sec and updates the display.

Generator Interface card D803

6 Generator Interface card D803

6.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
D803 interconnects the control unit to the auxiliary devices Explorator (E), Bucky
Table (B) and Wall stand exposure (T). D803 also connects the remote KV switch
and Foot switch to the Generator. D803 card consists of relays through which the
supply and signals are sent to the auxiliary devices.
6.2 FUNCTION DESCRIPTION
Supply voltages of 220V AC, 24V AC are obtained through pins 1, 3, 4 of X160
respectively. This card is connected to D802 through X100. The signals provided
by D802 through X100 are as follows;
a) GR1 for selecting station 1
b) GR2 for station 2
c) GR3 for station 3
d) VH
e) HU
+24V supply is provided to the control coils of all relays G1, G2, G3, VH and HU
through optocouplers. The signals from D802 operate optocouplers J4-J8 which
turn the corresponding relay ON. This operation provides the appropriate signal
(GR1, GR2, GR3, VH, and HU) to the connectors G1/G2 and G3. The Led’s GR1,
GR2, GR3, VH, HU indicates the presence of these signals. +24 V DC and 220 V
AC are also provided to connectors G1/G2 and G3. The COM G1/G2 connector
can be connected to either 24 G1/G2 or 220V G1/G2 depending on the voltages
required for the auxiliary devices. Similarly COM G3 can be connected to either
24G3 or 220G3.

The signals AR, ZB ext, DL ext are accepted through connectors G1/G2 and G3.
These signals are stepped down by a resistor network and then fed to D802 for
further action.

The connector KK2 is used for connecting the Remote Fluoroscopy switch. The
steps of Fluoroscopy are optically coupled by J10, J11, J12 (TLP521-4) and fed to
D803 through X100.

+24V and DL voltages are provided through X80.1 and X80.2 as the control voltage
for relay K1 on D900 (Terminal Feedback PCB) on HT trafo. The 220V signal
(HU_B) and 0VL is used for controlling ON/OFF of DL contactor.
6.2.1 STATION E (EXPLORATOR)
The signal obtained through X100.44 from D802 turns GR1 relay ON. This
connects 220V to pin 2 and VH_B signal to pin 3 of G1/G2.
6.2.1.1 FLUOROSCOPY at E
The Fluoroscopy Foot switch is connected between pins 2 and 13 of G1/G2.

Generator Interface card D803
is stepped down by resistor divider network consisting of R13, R14 and R15 and
then fed to D802 card through X100.39. On reception of Dl ext signal,
Fluoroscopy is initiated. The Fluoroscopy step is selected by the switch
connected at KK2.
6.2.1.2 RADIOGRAPY at E
The external radiography switch is connected between pins 2 and 12 of G1/G2.
The ZB ext signal obtained from pin 12 of G1/G2 is stepped down by R21, R22
and R23 and then fed to D802 through X100.40. On receiving ZB ext through
D802, VH is generated in D915/D915A. The VH relay on D803 turns ON and
connects 220V to pin 3 of G1/G2. Since VH (pin 3) and (pin 11) are shorted, the
same VH signal is received as AR ext (220V). AR ext is stepped down by R18,
R19 and R20 and then fed through X100.47. On reception of AR ext exposure is
initiated. On reception of internal radiography signal ZB_int, VH is generated
and received as AR ext. Thus exposure is possible at station E even by ZB_int
signal.

6.2.2 STATION B (BUCKY TABLE)

The signal obtained through X100.43 from D802 turns GR2 relay ON. This
connects 220V to pin 4 and VH_B signal to pin 5 of G1/G2.
6.2.2.1 RADIOGRAPY at B
The reception of ZB_int signal on D915/D915A is followed by generation of VH
signal at pin 5 of G1/G2 on D803. This VH is sent to the Bucky as the query and
AR ext is received as an acknowledgement from Bucky at pin 11 of G1/G2. On
reception of AR ext exposure is initiated. Fluoroscopy is not possible at station
B. 220V, 0V and Earth connections of Bucky are provided through pins 10, 9 and
16 of G1/G2 respectively.

6.2.3 STATION T (WALL STAND)

Signal obtained through X100.42 from D802 turns GR3 relay ON. This connects
220V to pin 2 and VH_B signal to pin 3 of G3.

Terminal Feedback PCB D900

9 Terminal Feedback PCB D900

9.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Terminal Feedback PCB D900 is mounted directly on the HT Trafo and it
is used for taking the KV and mA feedbacks.
9.2 FUNCTION DESCRIPTION
- The D900 PCB is divided into two main Functions: Kv feedback and mA feedback

9.2.1 KV Feedback at R+, S, R-

The KV applied to the X RAY tube is actually in the form of +KV/2 and – KV/2, with
respect to a common terminal S.
The +KV/2 is divided by means of a resistor divided network formed by 200M and
20K resistors. The drop across 20K resistor R1 is taken as the +KV/2 feedback at
terminals R+ (X1.5) and S (X1.3).
The spark gap U1 is used to prevent the excessive feedback voltage. If the voltage
across U1 exceeds 90V, it blows off.
The -KV/2 is also divided by means of a resistor divided network formed by 200M
and 20K resistors. The drop across 20K resistor R2 is taken as the -KV/2 feedback
at terminals R- (X1.4) and S (X1.6).
The spark gap U2 prevents the excessive feedback voltage.
9.2.2 mA Feedback at P and N
The tube current Jr (mA) completes its path through terminals P and N on D900.
During RADIOGRAPHY, this current is made to pass through R5 and R6 (10
each) and during FLUOROSCOPY it passes through resistors R3 and R4(500
each). This changeover of the resistors is done by means of a two change over
relay K1 .The control signal for this relay HU is obtained through X1.9 and X1.10
from D803(Generator Interface card) .

The mA link should be inserted at mA- and mA+ terminals.

The zener V3 is used for protection purpose.
The spark gaps U3 and U4 are used for preventing the excessive feedback.
The zeners V1 and V2 are used for limiting the voltages to 15V.
The mA feedback is taken from P (X1.2) and N (X1.1)
