ELICIT
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY
Since this is our first lesson for
this school year, I would like to
test your knowledge of some of
the topics you’ve learned in
your Grade 6 Mathematics
Class.

Let’s do it by playing a game.

Are you familiar with the game
named “YOU BELONG WITH Sounds familiar, Ma’am.
ME”?

In this game, I will show you a

picture and you will have to
identify where it belongs,
A. Reviewing the previous whether herbivores,
lesson or presenting the new omnivores, or carnivores. We
lesson will use a ‘duck race’ to choose
the lucky ones.

Are you ready to play?

Yes, we are!

Here are the mechanics. We are
going to play “The boat is
sinking”.
B. Establishing of purpose
for the lesson This is a common game activity
that requires participants to
form clusters of a given number
of people or form a group
according to particular
characteristics.
C. Presentation (Presenting
examples/instances of the The students form a group

2. Which part of our activity did
you find difficult in forming a
group? Why? Answers may vary.

But luckily you overcome it,

congratulations students.

EXPLAIN
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY
I have observed that you come
up to our lessons with the help
of our previous activities and
games, and you already grasp
the following concepts without
knowing them.
F. Developing mastery (Leads
to Formative Assessment 3) You Belong with Me and the
Boat Sinking is particularly a
game that is connected to sets.

What do you think of the

scenario where is the example
of sets? How about the subset?
The set is the whole class, which
includes all of us students, while
a subset is a group of students
who share similar
characteristics.

Very good! You have already

grasped the following concepts
without even knowing it.
Congratulations!

A set is a collection of distinct

objects, such as numbers,
letters, or shapes. We usually
write sets using curly braces { }
and separate the elements by
commas. For example, {1, 2, 3}
is a set of three numbers.

A subset is a set that contains

only elements from another set.
We use the symbol ⊆ to denote
subset. For example, {1, 2} is a
subset of {1, 2, 3}, and we write
{1, 2} ⊆ {1, 2, 3}.

A universal set is a set that

contains all the elements that
we are interested in. We use the
symbol U to denote the
universal set. For example, if we
are studying the letters of the
alphabet, we can take U = {a, b,
c, ..., z} as the universal set.

A null set is a set that has no

elements. We use the symbol ∅
to denote the null set. For
example, the set of even
numbers that are divisible by 3
and 5 is a null set, because there
is no such number.

The cardinality of a set is the

number of elements in the set.
We use the symbol | | to denote
the cardinality. For example,
the cardinality of {1, 2, 3} is 3,
and we write |{1, 2, 3}| = 3.

applications and skills in How about, how do you group
daily living the objects? Name each group. Group of vegetables
Group of fruits
Group of stuff toys

H. Making generalizations and Excellent! You can determine

abstraction about the lesson the sets.

If Set A is the set of vegetables,

can grapes be an element of set
A? Why? No, grapes are not vegetables, so
they cannot be an element of Set

application or Remediation
Very good, since grapes are not
vegetables, they cannot be an
element of Set A.

What is the cardinality of the

sets of fruits? |{apple, grapes, mango}| = 3.

Very good, Mr. /Ms. _____________.

Is a group of beautiful toys a

well-defined set? Why? Answers may vary.
EVALUATE
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY
I believe that you have grasped
the concepts of our topic. Let’s
have an activity. This test will
have two parts, and you must
complete it within 15 minutes.

Test 1. State whether each of

the following sets is well
defined or not Write your
answers in the space provided
before the number.

_____ 1. The set of young

politicians.
V. EVALUATION
_____ 2. The set of versatile
actress.

_____ 3. The set of months

containing 31 days.

_____ 4. The set of tasty food.

_____ 5. The set of planets in our

solar system.

Test II. Find the cardinality of

the following sets.

_____ 1. Bet A is the set of days

week.

_____ 2. Set B in the set of letters

in the word
"recognition".

_____ 3. Set C is the set of even

numbers less than 2.

_____ 4. Set D is the set of odd

numbers between 3 and
9.

_____ 5. Set It is the set of factors

of 12.
EXTEND
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY
I will provide an assignment to
the class to extend our topic.
You must complete the solution
on paper, take a picture of your
answers, and upload it to the
Google Classroom for our class.
Are we clear, students?” Yes, teacher.

I. TRUE or FALSE: Given the

sets below, write true if the
statement is correct and false if
it is wrong. Write your answer
in the space provided before the
number.
