PHYSICAL & CHEMICAL INFORMATION

Physical State; Appearance Formula: C3H5NO / CH2=CH-CONH2

WHITE CRYSTALS. Molecular mass: 71.1
Melting point: 84.5°C
Physical dangers
Density: 1.13 g/cm³
Solubility in water, g/100ml at 25°C: 204 (very good)
Chemical dangers Vapour pressure, Pa at 25°C: 0.9
Relative vapour density (air = 1): 2.45
The substance polymerizes violently due to heating above 85°C or
under the influence of light and oxidants. It reacts with strong bases Flash point: 138°C c.c.
Auto-ignition temperature: 424°C
and strong oxidants. Decomposes on burning. This produces toxic and
corrosive fumes including nitrogen oxides. Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: -0.78

EXPOSURE & HEALTH EFFECTS

Routes of exposure Inhalation risk

The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation, through Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne
the skin and by ingestion. particles can, however, be reached quickly.

Effects of short-term exposure Effects of long-term or repeated exposure

The substance is irritating to the eyes, skin and respiratory tract. The Repeated or prolonged contact may cause skin sensitization. The
substance may cause effects on the nervous system. The effects may substance may have effects on the nervous system. This may result in
be delayed. peripheral nerve damage. This substance is probably carcinogenic to
humans. May cause heritable genetic damage to human germ cells.
May cause toxicity to human reproduction or development. Repeated
or prolonged contact with skin may cause dermatitis. See Notes.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS

TLV: (inhalable fraction and vapour): 0.03 mg/m3, as TWA; (skin); (DSEN); A2 (suspected human carcinogen).
EU-OEL: 0.1 mg/m3 as TWA; (skin).
MAK: carcinogen category: 2; germ cell mutagen group: 2; sensitization of skin (SH); skin absorption (H)

ENVIRONMENT
This substance may be hazardous to the environment. Special attention should be given to fish.

NOTES
A severe intoxication is only likely after ingestion of large amounts. The following effects were reported: hallucinations, hypotension
and convulsions.
Depending on the degree of exposure, periodic medical examination is suggested.
Do NOT take working clothes home.
Long term exposure can cause skin peeling, rashes and acne-like dermatitis.
Damage to the peripheral nervous system may cause reversible effects like unsteady gait, impaired speech, tingling sensations,
incoordination, tremors of the hands and numbness of extremities.
Other UN number for acrylamide solution is 3426, hazard class 6.1, packing group III
