3. In the upper right corner of the browser, click Help > Tips to review helpful
information.
4. In the panel on the left, locate the lab environment under Enrollments to start.
1. From the CONSOLES panel on the left, unlock the console for the NMC host.
The NMC console is used for most operations in the lab. Sign in with the
following credentials:
Password: Student1!
2. The desktop contains two text files that are named Network and Passwords.
The Network and Passwords files contain all the DNS names, IP addresses,
and passwords for the environment.
Notice that there are bookmarks for the PowerProtect DD System Managers
(DDVE) and vSphere in the bookmarks toolbar.
4. Notice that there is a bookmark for the NetWorker Web UI (NWUI) in the
bookmarks toolbar.
Click the NWUI bookmark and verify that the login page appears. NWUI is the
interface that is used for most operations in the lab. Any operations that web
UI does not support are performed in the NetWorker Management Console
(NMC).
5. If any consoles are not accessible, use the POWER RESET option at the top
of the console.
If resolution is too small, use the tools in the console of the VLP panel to adjust
screen size.
NetWorker Security
The purpose of this lab is to perform several tasks relating to security features of
NetWorker.

7. Launch the Firefox web browser from the taskbar at the bottom.
Username: Administrator

10. From the NWUI menu on the left, expand Authentication Server.
Name: NW AD Admin
Port: 389
Tenant: default

13. From the start button on NMC, open the SSH terminal program PuTTY.
Host Name: nw
Click Open.

14. Use the authc_mgmt commands on the NetWorker server to verify that the
Active Directory users and groups are visible. The user Student1 has already
been created in Active Directory for use in this lab.
Text files with the commands and output are found on the NMC server at
Z:\Software. Copy the commands from the text files that are listed below and
paste into the PuTTY session by right-clicking in the PuTTY screen. Below are
the files and the expected output:
cd /nsr/authc/bin
15. Verify that each authc_mgmt query command returns records successfully.
Close the text files and close the PuTTY session by typing exit.
17. To authorize the external group to perform tasks on the NetWorker server,
assign the external group to a user group on the NetWorker server.
Click the radio button for Application Administrators and click EDIT.
Click SAVE.
19. Log out of NWUI by clicking the user icon in the upper right.
Click Logout.
20. Log in with the Active Directory domain username and password.
Username: dellemc.edu\Student1
Password: Student1!
21. Click the user icon in the upper right to confirm domain user profile login.
Click Groups.
Click +ADD.
Type: Client
Verify that the group was created. To delete Test Group, click the radio button
and click DELETE.
24. From the NWUI menu on the left, expand Authentication Server.
Select Users.
Name: Student2
Password: Student1!
Click CREATE.
27. Log out of the NWUI by clicking the user icon in the upper right.
Username: Student2
Password: Student1!
The operation failed because the correct privileges have not been assigned to
user Student2.
30. From the NWUI menu on the left, expand Authentication Server.
Select Users.
31. To enable Administrator privileges for Student2, click the radio button and
click EDIT.
32. In Student2 scroll down to Groups and move Administrators to the Selected
field.
Click SAVE.
Verify that the group was created. To delete Test Group, click the radio button
and click DELETE.
Scenario:
The purpose of this lab is to create a NetWorker label template, a backup media
pool, and a backup device in preparation for running backups.
35. Log into NWUI as Administrator. From the NWUI menu on the left, expand
Devices and Media.
36. To add a new label template, click +ADD in the main window.
Separator: Dot(.)
38. From the menu on the left, expand Devices and Media.
39. To add a new media pool, click +ADD in the main window.

42. From the menu on the left, expand Devices and Media.
43. DDVE1 must be added to NetWorker first. To add a new system, click +ADD

Pool: DR Pool
NetWorker Backups
Scenario:
The purpose of this lab is to create a client and scheduled backup for the
NetWorker clients WINDOWS and LINUX.
Select Policies.
55. When navigating NWUI, either click the name of the feature or the radio
button. These instructions specify which to choose.
To edit the action Server: Server db backup, click the radio button and click
EDIT.
57. Click the back arrow "<" and click the name NMC server backup.
To edit the action Traditional: NMC server backup, click the radio button and
click EDIT.
58. In the Data Movement tab, ensure the options match the following:
Select the hostnames and use the left and right arrows to make changes.
Select Clients.
60. To add server WINDOWS as a NetWorker client click +ADD in the main
window.
Name: windows.dellemc.edu
Click NEXT.
63. Allow a few minutes for the next screen. In Save Sets Configuration, accept
the default options.
Click NEXT.
Click NEXT.
Click FINISH.
Select Clients.
68. To edit linux.dellemc.edu, click the radio button and click EDIT.
69. In the GENERAL tab, scroll down to Save Sets and click delete the All save
set.
Expand / and select the documentation folder on the right. The folder
contains NetWorker PDF files.
71. Verify only the /documentation save set is shown and click SAVE.
Delete the All save setand add the C:\Documents save set.
Click SAVE.
Select Groups.
74. To add a new protection group for clients, click +ADD in the main window.
Type: Client

Manually start the backup outside of the schedule by clicking START and
confirm by clicking START again.
However, some client backups may run too quickly to view and may have
already completed. Click REFRESH.
5. From the menu on the left, select Server Messages to confirm that the
workflow completed successfully. Sort by Time and filter by Source and
Category.
6. Start the backup of the workflow Server backup in the Server Protection
policy.
Start the backup of the workflow NMC server backup in the Server
Protection policy.
From the menu on the left, select Active Sessions and Server Messages to
confirm that both workflows completed successfully.
Advanced Workflows
Scenario:
Select Groups.
Type: Client

16. To add a new action to the policy expand +ACTION in the main window.
Notice the new Succeed only after all clients succeed option.

24. In Data Movement, select the following using the left and right arrows:

From the menu on the left select Active Sessions and Server Messages to
confirm that the workflow completed successfully.
Select Groups.

Click ADD, and verify that the tag has moved to the Selected Client Tags
field.

39. To add a new action to the policy expand +ACTION in the main window.
41. In Data Movement select the following using the left and right arrows:

backed up.

59. To add a new action to the policy, expand +ACTION in the main window.

This backup is used later in this lab to compare the size of a directive backup.

71. To edit windows.dellemc.edu, click the radio button and click EDIT.
72. In the GENERAL tab, scroll down to Directive and specify the following:
73. Start the backup of the Directive Workflow. Use this backup later in the lab
as a comparison before a directive was created.
From the menu on the left, select Server Messages to confirm that the
workflow completed successfully.
74. Verify the backup size difference before and after the directive by clicking
Recover and Savesets in the NWUI menu on the left.
75. In Recover and Savesets, specify the following options for the filter:
Client: windows.dellemc.edu
76. Verify that the most recent save sets are at the top of the list. Review the
details of the two most recent backups and identify the size difference.
The first save set is with the directive and skipped all the PDF files during the
backup.

Configure Notifications
Configure a notification to be sent upon completion of the check connectivity action
in the Multiple Action Workflow.
Select Policies.
To edit check connectivity action, click the radio button and click EDIT.
Notify: On Completion
Click SAVE.
From the menu on the left, select Server Messages to confirm that the policy
completed successfully.

Scenario:
The purpose of this lab is to configure resources for cloning and staging, and use
them to perform cloning and automatic staging operations.
From the NWUI menu on the left, expand Devices and Media.
86. To edit sn.dellemc.edu and specify the destination storage node for a clone
action, click the radio button and click EDIT.
87. In the CONFIGURATION tab, scroll down to Clone Storage Nodes and enter
sn.dellemc.edu.
91. In Create Data Domain Device, click ADD DATA DOMAIN and specify the
following options:
Name: ddve2.dellemc.edu
Username: ddboost_user
Password: Student1!
Click NEXT.
Separator: Dot(.)
Click CREATE.
Verify that the device was created successfully and click FINISH.
Select Polices.
100. In Data Movement, select the following using the left and right arrows:
Click NEXT.
Enable Define.
Type: Weekly
Click NEXT.
Click NEXT.
107. Save and clone sessions show quickly for both WINDOWS and LINUX clients.
Click REFRESH to show them.
108. From the menu on the left, select Server Messages to confirm that the
workflow actions completed successfully.
2. Enter the NMC server hostname nmc.dellemc.edu when the window appears.
Click Connect.

4. In the Enterprise window, click the name of the NetWorker server on the left.
The vertical pane divider to the right might need to expand to display the tree.
5. Modify the NetWorker storage node for clone storage. In the Devices window,
right-click sn.dellemc.edu and select Properties.
Click OK.
Select New.
8. In the Create Staging window, click the General tab and specify the following
attributes:
Enabled: Yes
Devices: ddve1.dellemc.edu_Dev_DR
Click OK.
9. From the Monitoring window, watch for staging to occur over the next few
minutes. Sort by Time by clicking the black triangle to see the newest
messages at the top.
The Log window displays messages about the staging session. When the
staging operation starts, activity for the clone operation running in the Clone
Sessions tab and activity with the devices that are displayed in the Devices
panel appears.
At the end of staging, the log shows that save sets are deleted from the device
Dev_DR after the clone operation.
10. Once the stage operation has completed, go to the Devices window and either
disable Automatic Staging in Properties or delete the Automatic Staging
policy.
Scenario:
The purpose of this lab is to display the contents of volumes, review client file
indexes, and search for save sets.
View the list of SSIDs for the C:\Documents save set and their backup times.
13. Remove the oldest backup of this save set by clicking the Remove Oldest
Cycle button.
Click Yes to confirm removing the oldest cycle for the save set
C:\Documents.
14. Notice the change in the list of SSIDs for the C:\Documents save set.
In this view, sorted by newest at the top, the bottom SSID has been deleted
from the list. The SSID is not deleted from NetWorker, but the Browse policy is
expired. The SSID is removed only from the Client File Index and its status
changes from browsable status to recoverable.
Click OK.
15. To view save set details from a search, select Save Sets from the left pane of
the Media window.
Save Time From: Select the day before the first backup at 12:00 a.m.
17. Select the Save Set List tab to run the query and see the results.
In the Search Save Set filter box type C:\ and press Enter.
This content is filtered so only C:\Documents save sets are displayed using
the Save Set filter column. The /documentation save sets from
linux.dellemc.edu are filtered out.
From the NWUI menu on the left, select Recover and Savesets.
Client: windows.dellemc.edu
20. Save sets and their properties are viewed in the window on the right by
clicking the save set radio button.
21. From the NWUI menu on the left, expand Devices and Media.
Select Devices.
23. To change the volume mode, select Volumes from the menu on the left.
24. To change the volume to read only, click the radio button on the unmounted
volume 001 and click OPERATIONS > Change Mode.
Click APPLY.
Perform the steps again to change the mode from ReadOnly to Appendable.
27. Take note of the unmounted volume's Recycle Policy from the Configuration
window on the right side.
28. To change the unmounted volume 001 recycle policy, click OPERATIONS >
Change Recycle Policy.
Click APPLY.
30. Notice the change in the Recycle Policy under Configuration. This would
normally be an operation performed on a tape device and not a disk device
and could lead to data loss.
Perform the steps again to change the recycle policy from Manual to
Automatic.
NetWorker Recoveries
Scenario:
The purpose of this lab is to perform save set and file level recoveries using the
NetWorker Web UI.
1. From the NWUI menu on the left, select Recover and Savesets.
Expand Clients.
Client: linux.dellemc.edu
Expand Volumes.
Name: 001
3. Select the radio button for the most recent Primary copy of save set
/documentation.
Destination Path: click BROWSE and expand linux.dellemc.edu > /tmp and
click SAVE.
Click NEXT.
Click FINISH.
9. Click the more options icon (three vertical dots) to the left of the recovery job.
11. To see the results of the restore on server linux.dellemc.edu, open the
LINUX console.

12. Change to the file recovery destination specified during the recovery
configuration and view the files by typing the following commands:
cd /tmp
ls -l
cd documentation
ls
Because the file was restored to a new location, the file was not renamed.
1. From the NWUI menu on the left, select Recover and Savesets.
Expand Clients.
Client: windows.dellemc.edu
Expand Volumes.
Name: 001
3. Select the radio button for the most recent Primary copy of save set
C:\Documents.
Select Documents.
Select the PDF file at the top of the list and click SAVE.
Click NEXT.
Click NEXT.
Debug Level: 0
Click NEXT.
Click FINISH.
10. Find the recovery in the list and confirm that it succeeded.
11. To see the results of the restore on server windows.dellemc.edu, open the
WINDOWS console.
Login: DellEMC\Administrator

12. Change to the file recovery destination specified during the recovery
configuration and view the files by opening File Explorer from the taskbar and
browse to the following location:
C:\Documents
Because the file was restored to the same location, the filename was modified
with "~" at the beginning of the filename.
Scenario:
The purpose of this lab is to prepare the environment for a Dell EMC NetWorker
vProxy virtual appliance to support VMware backups.
1. To add the vProxy appliance to DNS, open the console for the AD host from
Consoles tab in VLP.

IP Address: 192.168.1.61
Username: DellEMC\Administrator
Password: Student1!
Password: Student1!
Click Browse.
Click Open.
6. In the Select a name and folder window, type vproxy for the Virtual
machine name.
Click Next.
7. In the Select a compute resource window, verify that the esxi host is
selected.
Click Next.
Click Next.
Click Next.
Click Next.
Click Next.
DNS: 192.168.1.100
FQDN: vproxy.dellemc.edu
IP Address: 192.168.1.61
Netmask/Prefix: 255.255.255.0
13. Monitor the tasks to import and deploy the template successfully.
Locate the vproxy appliance under Datacenter. Right-click the appliance and
select Power > Power On.
14. To ensure that the vProxy appliance powers on automatically, select the esxi
host from the menu on the left. Click the Configure tab and select Virtual
Machines > VM Startup/Shutdown.
Click EDIT.
Click OK.
16. To verify that the vProxy appliance is powered on and that the customization
succeeded, click the vProxy host. Under the Summary tab, select Launch
Web Console.
If a notification about popups appears, enable the popup window to view the
Web Console.
17. Verify that the appliance has finished booting and that the login prompt shows
vproxy login.
Scenario:
The purpose of this lab is to configure NetWorker software for VMware backups of
the VMware vCenter and the virtual machines.

6. Select the radio button next to vcsa.dellemc.edu and expand the vCenter
Inventory to view the vCenter environment and to verify that the vCenter
inventory is complete.

Click FINISH.
6. Click the PROXIES tab to view the list of vProxies in NetWorker. Use the
REFRESH button to update the list.
Select Policies.
To edit the action VMware: Backup click the radio button and click EDIT.
Click SAVE.
Click SAVE.
Select Groups.
7. To edit the group Gold-Vmware, click the radio button and click EDIT.
Click SAVE.
Select Policies.
Manually start the backup by clicking START and confirm by clicking START
again.
Review the messages to confirm that the workflow VMware has succeeded.
Scenario:
1. From the NWUI menu on the left, select Recover and Savesets.
Expand Clients.
vCenter: vcsa.dellemc.edu
Tip: If the client listing is not displaying well, enable vCenter view
to select vmwarevm3 Linux.
Click NEXT.
Click NEXT.
7. In the vSphere HTML5 UI, click Recent Tasks at the bottom to show the
restore and reconfigure tasks that ran for vmwarevm3.
The purpose of this lab is to read NetWorker raw log files and create NetWorker
Management Console reports.

2. Render and view the contents of the NetWorker daemon.raw log file with the
nsr_render_log command.
In this example, there are the last 15 lines of code (-B start line option).
Use the command to read the daemon.raw file from a remote host (-R) such
as nmc.dellemc.edu:
Combine the commands to render the NMC daemon.raw file and output to a
log file:
View the contents of the NMC daemon log file by typing the following
commands:
cd /nsr/logs
tail daemon.log
Password: Student1!
Note all the drill down reports and their sequences in the Drill Down
Sequence section.
6. Double-click any policy in the Policy Name column to display the next drill
down sequence report.
7. Double-click the month in the Month column to display the next drill down
sequence report.
This is the Daily Summary report. There is a summary of activity for each day
in the month.
8. Double-click any day in the Date column to display the next report in the drill
down sequence, Client Summary.
In the Client Summary report, double-click any client to display the Save Set
Details report.
9. View the Client Summary by Group report for the period of time of the class
in the View Report tab.
10. Right-click anywhere on the report and select Chart to change the report
format.
The chart that appears is a bar chart. Use the Chart Type drop down to
change the chart graphic.
11. Select the Save Set Details report from Reports > Policy Statistics to
generate a custom report and save it for future use.
12. Specify the following report parameters using the left and right arrows in each
field:
Click OK.
16. The custom Documents on DD report is saved under Save Set Details.
17. To share a custom report with all console users, right-click the report.
Select Share.
18. To export a report, right-click anywhere on the Save Set Details report and
select Export.
Scenario:
The purpose of this lab is to perform a recovery of the NetWorker media database
and client file index (CFI) using the NetWorker Management Console and
command-line interfaces.

5. After the services are stopped, simulate a disaster by renaming the following
directories under /nsr:
cd /nsr
Rename mm to mm.bak
mv /nsr/mm /nsr/mm.bak
mv /nsr/index /nsr/index.bak
mv /nsr/res /nsr/res.bak
To view the changes, type cd /nsr, press Enter, type ls, and press Enter.
7. The renamed directories are re-created. However, the media database and
CFIs are now empty.

9. From the NWUI menu on the left, expand Devices and Media.
Select Volumes.
10. To recover the NetWorker bootstrap save set, add a PowerProtect DD device
for ddve1.dellemc.edu. The PowerProtect DD will need to be added as well.
Instead of creating a folder, select the existing folder DEV_DR. This is the
name of the device that has the server backup save sets before the “Disaster”.
Click NEXT.
Warning: Notice that Label & Mount is not an option. Label &
Mount would destroy the backup data on the device, if enabled.
nsrdr
13. Enter the NetWorker bootstrap Save Set ID number recorded earlier.
14. Wait until all NetWorker services are shut down. Answer Y to replace the
existing NetWorker Authentication Service database file.
15. Answer Y to confirm that the /nsr/authc/data folder does not contain a
recovered NetWorker Authentication Service database file.
16. Wait until all NetWorker services come up. Type Y to recover the client file
indexes.
Type Y to continue.
17. Monitor the nsrdr recovery process and validate that it completes
successfully.
18. Log in to NWUI as administrator. Confirm that the volumes and save sets are
recovered. Users may have to log out and log in to NWUI again.
1. From the NWUI menu on the left, expand Devices and Media.
Select Volumes.
2. To simulate the loss of 101, expand Devices and Media from the NWUI menu
on the left.
Select Devices.
3. Click the radio button for the device. From the menu above, click
OPERATIONS > Unmount.
4. From the NWUI menu on the left, expand Devices and Media.
Select Volumes.
Click the radio button for the volume 101. From the menu above, click
DELETE.
6. From consoles tab in VLP, open the console for NW and log in.
Run the following command to scan the recently deleted volume back into the
database:
scanner –i rd=sn.dellemc.edu:ddve2.dellemc.edu_Dev_2
Tip: The scanner option is (-i) rebuild the media and client file
indexes from the volume read.
7. In NWUI refresh the Volumes window to see the recovered volume. Notice
that the volume is not mounted.
Stop the NetWorker Management Console server service EMC GST Service
by right-clicking the service and selecting Stop.
3. Simulate a disaster by renaming the NMC database file and folder in the
C:\Program Files\EMC NetWorker\Management\nmcdb directory.
7. Validate that the NMC database file and folder are recovered to the
C:\Program Files\EMC NetWorker\Management\nmcdb folder.
8. In the Services desktop app, start the EMC GST Service. Log in to
NetWorker Management Console and verify that the custom configurations
are recovered.
REMINDER
Your action is required to ensure that course credit is given upon completion of on

Conclusion
