OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
 Define Input Device
 State types of Input Devices
 Explain features of Input Devices
CONTENT OF INPUT DEVICE
LESSON A peripheral used to provide data and control signals to a
computer.

TYPES
Keyboard, Mouse, Scanner, Digital camera, Joystick

FEATURES
 Keyboard: a typewriter-style device which uses an
arrangement of buttons or keys to act as a mechanical lever or
electronic switch.
 Mouse: a pointing device that detects two-dimensional motion
relative to a surface which is typically translated into the
motion of a pointer on a display, which allows a smooth control
of the graphical user interface
 Scanner: a device that optically scans images, printed text,
handwriting or an object and converts it to a digital image
 Digital Camera: (Digicam) is a camera that encodes digital
images and videos digitally and stores them for later
reproduction
 Joystick: an input device consisting of a stick that pivots on a
base and reports its angle or direction to the device it is
controlling. It is the principal control device in the cockpit of
many aircraft and is often used to control video games.
PREVIOUS Students have been taught how to operate computers using
KNOWLEDGE keyboards and mouse.
PRESENTATION Teacher use questions to ascertain students recollection of input
devices taught in Basic 7
STEP I Students define Input Device
STEP II Students list types of Input Devices
STEP III Teacher displays pictures of various Input Devices
STEP IV Students describe features of various input devices
EVALUATION 1. What is an Input Device?
2. List 5 types of Input Devices
3. Briefly describe each of the input devices listed above
CONCLUSION Teacher reviews lesson main points
ASSIGNMENT 1. Describe the structure of a keyboard
2. State 2 types of mouse

OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to
 Define Register, Address and Bus
 State types of registers
 Explain differences between Registers and Main Memory
CONTENT OF REGISTER
LESSON A processor register is small high speed storage inside the CPU. All
data must be represented in a register before it can be processed.

ADDRESS
Memory address is a unique number that refers to a specific
location in a computer’s memory.

BUS
A bus is a communication system that transfers data between
components inside a computer, or between computers.

TYPES OF REGISTERS
• CIR – CURRENT INSTRUCTION REGISTER
• ACCUMULATOR
• MDR – MEMORY DATA REGISTER
• MAR – MEMORY ADDRESS REGISTER
• IR – INSTRUCTION REGISTER
• PC – PROGRAM COUNTER

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN REGISTERS AND MAIN MEMORY

REGISTER MAIN MEMORY (RAM)
Registers are located inside the Main memory is located outside
CPU the CPU
Registers contain data or Main memory contains data or
instructions that the CPU is instructions that the CPU will
currently working on work on or has worked on
Registers are fast Main memory is relatively slow
when compared to registers
Registers store very small amount Main memory stores large
of data amounts of data
PREVIOUS Students were taught components of a computer microprocessor
KNOWLEDGE in Basic 7 and 8
PRESENTATION Teacher uses questions to ascertain students’ recollection of
components of a microprocessor
STEP I Students define Register
STEP II Teacher guides students to define Memory Address and System
Bus
STEP III Teacher displays pictures showing internal components of a
microprocessor
STEP IV Students list types of Registers
STEP V Students state the differences between registers and main
memory
EVALUATION 1. Define CPU Register
2. List five types of CPU Registers
3. Define Memory Address
4. Define System Bus
5. List three types of System Bus
6. State three differences between Registers and Main Memory
CONCLUSION Teacher reviews lesson main points
ASSIGNMENT 1. State the steps involved in how a computer converts data to
required information
2. State two factors affecting the speed of data transfer
