Creating Controllers in CARE 10

To replace a Zone Manager with a Loytec router, you’ll have to basically start from scratch in CARE. For
LHSC sites, Ed Baker ([email protected]) can take a project and export the Neuron IDs for
Lon controllers into a document like this:

If Ed is not available to do this, you will need a Windows 95 laptop running E-Vision, so the next best
person to talk to is Lyle Kernighan ([email protected]).

From here, you will need to create a CARE database.

Use the Device Library in CARE (Globe icon) to drag
in the correct controller types into your buses. For
Victoria Hospital, I have been naming the controllers
just as the room number (ex. D1-100 would be
“D1100”). I try to keep the controller name as small
as possible so that I can use it again in the ASCII
Location field, which is what will show up if you do a
discovery on the bus with Excelon.

NV Point Sharing
Once the correct buses are created, you need to find out if there is any temperature sensor/setpoint or
any other type of point sharing going on. In some cases, multiple rooms are being controlled by one wall
module. Originally, this is programmed through the Zone Manager, but since the Loytec doesn’t have
this ability, it will need to be done with an XL5000 controller added to the bus. If possible, use the XL50
as it is a less expensive option, but it does have a limit of 46 NV shares. All logic and averaging will have
to be done in the XL5000 Plant control and then the resulting point shared back to the Lon controller
(see below).

Uploading Parameters
After the database is set up, the next task is to go plug into the bus and upload the current controller
configurations to CARE from the controllers in the field. This is done by right clicking on the channel or
the controllers individually and clicking Upload Parameters while Onnet.

It would also be wise to use RapidBalance and take a screenshot of all the balancing settings just to be
safe in case they somehow become lost. Once the configurations are uploaded, the controllers in the
field will go offline. If you are not replacing the Zone Manager controller with the Loytec at this point,
open Excelon and discover all devices then right click on each device and Set Online again.

Note: The above example was not using the VAV controllers with an output for damper, hence why the K-Factors are all the
default 0.54/0.55 value.

Creating Routers Between Channels

To create the network properly through the Loytec, you need to create routers to connect the channels
properly. You will need an IP Channel, a 1250 bus Channel, and 1-4 Port Channels depending on the
number of busses connected to the Loytec. To connect the Channels, do the following steps:

1. Set your IP channel as the NI Channel and Default Channel.

2. Right-click on the channel and select Create Router…
3. Name the router and set the Far Side as your 1250 Channel.
4. Set your 1250 channel as the NI Channel and the Default Channel.
5. Right-click on the channel and select Create Router…
6. Name the router and set the Far Side as one of your Port Channels.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for remaining Port Channels.

Configuring the Loytec Router

To configure your Loytec router, plug into the router with your serial connector and set the IP address
through Hyperterminal. Once the IP address is set, plug the router into the network and connect to your
Lon Point Server machine. Open Internet Explorer and launch the web interface to the Loytec by
entering the IP address of the device. Click Config in the left-side menu and log into the admin account
(Login is either admin/admin or admin/loytec4u depending on the firmware of the device). In the CEA-
852 Server menu, enable the Config Server.

In Control Panel, open LonWorks Interfaces. Add an IP-852 connection for the new Loytec router.
Choose an available IP Port on the server. In the Loytec web interface, go to the CEA-852 Channel List
and add the Lon Point Server connection to the Loytec (see image). Once these are both set up, Reload
and Recontact from the web interface. Once you see the status flag (green check mark), the connection
is functioning properly.

Synchronizing with LNS Database

Open the CARE project on the Lon Point Server and set the IP Channel to be the NI Channel. Go Onnet
and you should be able to use the web interface Device Info page to send the Service Pins to the Router
devices (You can also enter them manually by copying them from this page as well). Once the Neuron
IDs are all entered, you can commission all the devices. At this point, the CARE Project control must be
given to the LNS database. Go to the Lon-Works menu on the bottom left pane in CARE and then check
the box for LNS Controlled. Create a New LNS Network and choose the Local LNS NI interface (your IP-
852 connection from the LonWorks Interfaces application in Control Panel). Select your IP Channel as
the LNS NI Channel. You can Generate a Random Id for the Domain Settings on the bus (If connecting
locally to the Lon bus, you will need to set your Domain to this Id to discover devices in the future).

Once all of these settings are configured, you can synchronize the database with the LNS. Right-click on
the Lon-Works menu and select Synchronize with LNS… This will launch a menu similar to below that
shows your device changes since the last synchronization that need to be updated to the LNS database.

LonWorks Discovery in Quickbuilder

Open your Quickbuilder project on the Lon Point Server. Go to the Tools menu and select QB LonWorks
Discovery/Synchronization Wizard…

1. Click Next on the first screen

2. Make sure your Lon Server is selected and then click Next
3. Click Select None and then choose only your LNS network that you have set up and click Next
4. Here you can choose a where in the Facility Model to put your points and have the option to
add a prefix to your point names. Click Next once complete.
5. Select your proper Network Interface and click Next to discover the controllers and points.

Now your Quickbuilder project will have your LonWorks items in it. You need to find your Lon Network
Interface in the Networks page and download it to the server. Find your Channels and download them
to the server. Find your controllers and download them to the server. Finally find your points and
download them to the server (For XL10 devices, you will have one point per controller. It will be named
ControllerNameApp).

At this point, you can go through your Quickbuild project and delete the Zone Manager controller and all
of its associated points from EBI. Delete them and then download the Recycle Bin. Do not click Delete
Permanently. The Recycle Bin must be downloaded to remove the items from the EBI database.

Graphics Replacement
To replace the graphics that no longer have points associated with them, open Station and go to a
floorplan graphic. Go to Configure>Tools>Edit Current Display to open HMIWeb Display Builder to edit
the graphic. The temperature points need to be changed to show the proper nvoSpaceTemp parameters
of the ControllerNameApp point (see below).

To link to the VAV graphic, the push button must have the Request Task action applied to it. Set yours to
the same as the image below, where Parameter 2 is your Controller Name.

After saving the graphic, clicking on the push button will take you to the VAV template similar to below.
