In its bid to combat fraudsters and cybercriminals, GCash, the country’s leading mobile
wallet, partners with the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG)
in developing the #CyberKatropaTips campaign to further educate Filipinos on how to
avoid getting scammed online as it ramps up its call for users to be extra vigilant when
making transactions.
Scammers are getting smarter and taking advantage of new technology, new products
or services, and even major events to create believable stories that will convince you to
give them your money or personal details. That’s why knowing what red flags to look out
for to protect your online transactions and hard-earned money is crucial, now more than
ever. Are you G to be protected? Here are some of the #CyberKatropaTips from PNP-
ACG and GCash to avoid getting scammed online.
1. Never share your personal data, MPIN and OTP with anyone.
Scammers often pose as a company representative or someone that their victim knows.
These are just one of the scammer’s ways to hack into your e-wallet account and steal
your wallet money. This is why it’s important to never share your personal information
like one-time passwords and MPINs. Remember, GCash will not ask for your
passwords and OTPs, and private information. As an additional layer of security for its
users, GCash also employs global class security authentication and has recently added
the facial recognition login process; DoubleSafe to prevent account takeovers.
2. Don’t get caught in phishing
Have you ever received a text or email pretending to be from GCash and asking you to
claim or click on a link? First, Check if the email address and the sender are the same
and if it comes from the email domains @gcash.com or @mynt.xyz. Then, check if
www.gcash.com or www.help.gcash.com are spelled correctly and without additional
punctuation. Otherwise, never click any links in emails or texts to avoid phishing. Also,
do not panic about the urgency of the message since such messages are intended to
instill pressure among users, asking them to take urgent action so their accounts will not
be deactivated.
3. Be wary of fake rewards and offers
Official GCash promos and raffles will only be released via email, SMS, and official
social media pages. Likewise, beware of illegitimate investments. If an offer seems too
good to be true, it may very well be a fraud attempt or a trap.
4. Do your part to reduce the case of scam
Maintaining your cybersecurity will help prevent you from being a victim of identity theft
and potential financial loss. Staying current on the latest types of scams can help you to
identify the risks and learn how to avoid them, so you can protect yourself and your
finances. Keep in mind that being extra careful and skeptical will save you from a lot of
inconveniences later on.
Together with the top law agencies in the country, GCash continues to reinforce its
state-of-the-art security measures in the app and also makes sure that cybercriminals
are apprehended while constantly reminding the public on how to safeguard their
accounts.
To report scams and fraudulent activities, visit the official GCash Help Center at
