Case Study on Flipkart e-commerce portal

Introduction :-

Flipkart Private Limited is an Indian e-commerce company,


headquartered in Bangalore, and incorporated in Singapore as a private
limited company. The company initially focused on online book sales
before expanding into other product categories such as consumer
electronics, fashion, home essentials, groceries, and lifestyle products.

Founders :-

Sachin Bansal Binny Bansal


Months after Sachin Bansal exited from Flipkart, following its
acquisition by the US retail company Waltmart Inc in May, his close
friend and Flipkart Group CEO Binny Bansal also stepped down
from the company he co-founded in 2007.

Flipkart is a domestic player because it is an Indian firm that


operates exclusively in India.
History :-

Flipkart was founded in October 2007 in Mumbai by Sachin


Bansal and Binny Bansal, alumni of the IIT, Delhi and
former Amazon employees. The company initially focused on online
book sales with country-wide shipping. Flipkart slowly grew in
prominence and was receiving 100 orders per day by 2008.

Flipkart Private Limited reported a loss of over 39 billion Indian


rupees in the financial year 2022 in India, compared to a loss of
over 24 billion Indian rupees in the previous financial year.

he first product sold on Flipkart was a book - "Leaving Microsoft
To Change The World" by John Wood. The order was placed
on October 22nd, 2007 (22:24:17, to be exact) and was
delivered to Mahbubnagar, a city 150KM outside of Hyderabad.

Flipkart is known for pioneering services such as Cash on


Delivery, No Cost EMI and easy returns – customer-centric
innovations have made online shopping more accessible and
affordable for millions of Indians. Together with its group
companies, Flipkart is committed to transforming commerce in
India through technology.

Flipkart's Big Billion Days Sale 2023 promises discounts on


smartphones from brands like Apple, The sale is teased to bring up
to 80 percent discount on electronics and accessories. Besides this,
shoppers can avail discounts, cashbacks, no-cost EMI offers, credit
and exchange discounts during the sale.
In the financial year 2023, the market share of the Flipkart Group in
the overall online retail sector was 48 percent. The market share
was highest at 51 percent in the financial year 2020 and 2021.
Flipkart Group is an e-commerce giant with headquarters in
Bengaluru, India.

Flipkart works as a marketplace that connects all interested


sellers to their potential customers and assists them in making
the sale. Flipkart follows a clear Business-to-Consumer model
or more commonly known as a B2C model.
