CALIBRATION PROCEDURE Sheet 3 of 9

1 SCOPE:

This procedure establishes the general work plan for the accurate calibration of
instruments. The calibration shall be in compliance with the approved specifications,
codes, standards and manufacturer constructions.

2 PURPOSE:

The purpose of this procedure is to ensure that all Inspection, Measuring & Test
Equipment used during fabrication, construction, testing and commissioning is
checked and calibrated at specified intervals and is functioning correctly for the
activity to be performed and documented as such.

3 DEFINITIONS:
3.1 IM&TE Inspection, Measuring & Test Equipment
3.2 ICMTE Inventory of calibrated Measurement & Test
Equipment
3.3 SUB-CONTRACTOR DESCON Engineering
3.4 E&P Equipment & Plant Department
4 RESPONSIBILITIES:

4.1 It is the responsibility of the Sub Contractor Store Department to control the
calibration of IM&TE used in the fabrication and in the field are suitably
identified with the calibration status in accordance with this procedure.

4.2 It is the responsibility of each and every individual to ensure that IM&TE and
welding machines used in the field are calibrated.

4.3 It is the responsibility of Sub Contractors QA/QC department to have

surveillance audits and checks and raise NCR’s in case of any non- –
conformances.

4.4 It is the responsibility of the Store Department personnel to receive any

IM&TE, to monitor receipt of this equipment and arranges for calibration prior
to use.

5 PROCEDURE:

5.1 IM&TE either newly purchased or received from existing Sub Contractors
groups will be checked for availability of the calibration certificates prior to
use.

5.2 No IM&TE shall be issued by the Sub Contractors Store Department prior to
registration in the inventory of Calibrated Measurement & Test Equipment
(ICMTE). The absence of certification will result in the quarantine of
equipment until certification is supplied or the equipment re- calibrated and
IM&TE registered.

5.3 As the IM&TE are received along with the required certification, the Sub–
Contractors Store Department will:

5.3.1 Detail the individual item of IM&TE on the ICMTE.

5.3.2 Register and archive the calibration certificate and the calibration
records.

5.3.3 Record the serial no of the IM&TE on ICMTE.

5.3.4 Apply valid calibration sticker to items of the IM&TE and mention re-
calibration due date on the sticker.

5.3.5 The ICMTE will be held by Store Department.

5.4 All IM&TE used for inspection or acceptance of construction work shall be
assigned and permanently identified with an individual serial number. These
serial numbers shall be placed on the equipment by such appropriate means as
to produce durable identification. IM&TE with missing or illegible
identification serial number shall be re-calibrated before use.

5.5 Personnel using IM&TE are responsible for monitoring calibration due dates
and submitting instrument and devices for calibration on time. The Sub-
Contractor Store Department will notify relevant Incharges of IM&TE to be
removed from use due to expired calibration period.

5.6 QC inspector testing personnel shall not accept measurement values obtained
using Measuring and Test Equipment that have exceeded calibration due
dates.

5.7 Calibration of IM&TE shall be carried out in accordance with the Standard
Calibration Procedure for the individual instruments / equipment or
manufacturers instruction certified.

5.8 Calibration shall be against a certified reference standard or device whose

accuracy is :

5.8.1 Traceable to national or international standards.

5.8.2 Obtained from and independent reproducible standard derived from

accepted values of natural physical constants.

5.8.3 Otherwise verifiable to and accuracy tolerance smaller than one half of
the smallest measurement increment on the device to be calibrated.

5.9 Calibration intervals shall not be longer than as specified in Attachment 6.5,
for each item of IM&TE. Any IM&TE that is used on site but not identified
within Attachment 6.5 shall be subject to analysis by QC Department and
included within Attachment 6.5.

5.9.1 Certified reference standards for on site calibration shall be kept under
the control of Sub-Contract Store Department. Calibration record
for on site and off site calibration shall be held by Sub-Contractor
Store Department.

5.9.2 Issuance, return and maintenance of IM&TE shall be control by the

Sub-Contractor Store Department.

5.9.3 The Sub-Contractor QA/ QC department shall verify and monitor the
calibration status of equipment during in process examination.

5.9.4 When deficiencies are found in any IM&TE, NCR will be raised. The
deficient equipment will be immediately segregated from
construction work to prevent the use of equipment until repaired
and/or re-calibrated.

The impact on acceptability of items associated with the deficient will be

assessed and appropriate action(s) taken on a case by case basis.
