Education

Please include details of any formal or military qualifications. If you are applying for CEng or IEng, please
attach copies of any certificates listed in section G(a) Formal Qualifications to this application.

EngTech/ICTTech applicants do not need to provide copies of certificates, but their qualifications are
checked by the relevant scheme coordinator/endorser.

Career History

In the Career History section, please provide details of your work experience, following the tips below.
This should be a complete career history, including career gaps:

CEng/IEng
 Keep it personal, i.e. talk about your own achievements, not what the team did.
 Use terms such as "I led, designed, built, tested, negotiated, presented,
implemented, achieved…….”
 Avoid use of jargon and unnecessary or unexplained abbreviations.

Current role: Give an extended description of your current role, or the role that is most relevant to the
demonstration of your current competence, giving details of your responsibilities together with any
relevant metrics. You should aim to be very specific in your examples and if you have held lots of
different roles, you should select examples that best illustrate your competence. Remember that you
are applying for Professional Registration as an Engineer so your examples should focus on activities
that demonstrate the competencies in an engineering context.

Version 2
August 2022

Indicate the size and complexity of the projects or tasks for which you have had direct responsibility
and quantify any budget(s) for which you have had overall responsibility. Use numbers to show the size
and scale of your responsibility; for example, numbers of people supervised, or the value in financial
terms of the activity for which you were responsible.
Remember that your application form will be used as an agenda for the interview (where applicable),
therefore it is in your own interest to give a full and clear summary of your responsibilities and
competence, otherwise time will be wasted while the interviewers try and understand facts which should
be on the form.

EngTech/ICTTech
You should write an extended description of your current role, or the role that is most relevant to your
application. Please also include short descriptions of your previous roles. Please provide details of
your work experience, try to identify instances that show how your experience demonstrates
achievement of the registration competences, especially focusing on your personal achievements.
You will be asked to answer three questions to allow you to demonstrate your competences and
commitment

 Describe your roles and responsibilities carefully and concisely.

 Keep it personal. This is your chance to talk about your own achievements, tasks
and actions, not the team’s.
 Use terms such as “I developed, built, tested, commissioned, operated,
maintained, supervised, achieved…”
 “I achieved X at…” is a more useful statement than “X was achieved at…”
 Avoid using jargon and unnecessary or unexplained abbreviations.
 Remember to use language that can be easily understood by someone who is not a
specialist in your field.
 Remember to include the dates, employer, job title and the roles and responsibilities you had.

Please continue on a separate sheet as necessary.

Interview (CEng/IEng Only)

Applicants applying for CEng or IEng professional registration with the IET are required to attend a
Professional Review Interview (PRI). Please visit the website for guidance notes to aid applicant for
interview preparation https://www.theiet.org/career/professional-registration/getting-help-with-your-
application/your- professional-review-interview/.

Fee for professional registration

Professional registration fees are payable in Sterling (GBP £), with special arrangements in some other
currencies.

Successful applicants are also required to pay an entrance fee which is collected by the IET on behalf of the
Engineering Council. Only on receipt of this payment can your details be sent to the Engineering Council for
inclusion on their register. Once your details have been added to the Engineering Council register you are
able to use your professional registration designatory letters.
