WHAT IS

BLEED ?

Bleed refers to printing


that goes beyond the
Bleed
edge of the sheet
before trimming.
In other words,
the bleed is the area
to be trimmed off.

HOW DO I
INCORPORATE
BLEED?

1. Make the file 1/8” (0.125”) larger on all four sides.


E.G.: Business card size with no bleed is 3.5”x2”. With bleed it is
3.75” x 2.25”. NOTE: Background images/colour/text must be
extended as well.

2. Keep all important text and images 1/8” (0.125”)


inside the trim edge not the bleed edge.
Copiers shift up to 1/16” (0.0625”) and keeping text 1/8” (0.125”)
away from the trimming edge, ensures nothing gets cut off.

Most design programs will give you bleed options (see below)
with the exception of Photoshop. For this reason we do not
WHERE DO I FIND MY encourage using Photoshop to create layouts.
When using software with no bleed options make the page size

BLEED OPTIONS? 1/8” (0.125”) larger on all for sides.


NOTE: All important text and images must be kept at least
1/8” (0.125”) away from the TRIM EDGE, not the bleed edge.
Background images/colour/text must be extended to the
BLEED EDGE.

For Example:
3.5”x2” with bleed is 3.75”x2.25”
5”x7” with bleed is 5.25”x7.25”
4”x6” with bleed is 4.25”x6.25”
8.5”x5.5” with bleed is 8.75”x5.75”
