Lesson 32: Topic: Lesson Type: Arts and Crafts

MATERIALS
• Big Book – Storytelling Integrated with Math – Giantina, The Giant Ladybug –
Sizes, Sorting, and Matching – L2;
• Appendix 1, Pages 1-5 – Storytelling Integrated with Art – Giantina, The Giant
Ladybug – Fun with Accessories – L3;
• Cellophane paper;
• Colored pencils;
• Crayons;
• Glue;
• Tape.
PREPARATION IN ADVANCE
• Cut out Appendix 1, Pages 1-5, from students’ materials. Choose a model from
each page and paste the accessories so you can see in advance the difficulties
the children might have when doing this.
• Cut the cellophane paper into squares, a little bit larger than the hole for the
lenses. See model in Appendix 1, Page 4.
• Send a note to parents asking students to bring some accessories: hairbands,
purses, watches and sunglasses, etc.

CAMPOS DE EXPERIÊNCIAS:
1. Reread the Big Book to the class. Show Pages 2 and 3 to the students and ask
them to observe what Giantina and Little Joseph are wearing.
2. Ask students if they brought the hairband, purse, the sunglasses, the watch, or
any other accessories. Develop a conversation with the children. Ask the students
if they enjoy wearing those accessories. Have them put on their accessories.
4. Game. Play a quick game with the children. Have them get their accessories.
Explain that when you say “put on”, they should put on the accessory, and
when you say “take off”, they should take off the accessory. Give the commands
alternately and have the students follow them.

5. Hand out the pictures from Appendix 1, Pages 1-5. Ask students to show you
Giantina’s hairband and purse and Joseph’s glasses and watch. Have the students
color all of them. Then, help them paste the parts. Students will need your help to
paste the cellophane paper between the lenses. Monitor the whole project. Ask a
helper to assist you if necessary.
6. Have students put on Giantina’s and Joseph’s accessories and invite them to
walk around the school to show off their new accessories!
7. Tell students you will take one more walk around the school, but now your are
going to notice accessories other people wear. Take them around and ask
questions so students will give you complete answers such as TEACHER ___
WEARS GLASSES/A WATCH.
8. Sketchpad. Back in class, have students record their findings. Go around checking
their drawings of the people they met during their walk and their accessories.
Ask them who they are drawing and what accessories they were wearing.
