ABSTRACT
CHAPTER I
CONTEXT AND RATIONALE
Tanauan, Nueva Ecija is a hidden gem endowed with rich biodiversity, fascinating
landscapes and a vibrant cultural heritage. The potential for ecotourism in the region is
significant and offers an opportunity for sustainable development that balances economic
growth with environmental protection and community empowerment. Although potential
for ecotourism is clear, Tanauan faces challenges that require a strategic intervention
approach. The surge in global tourism has underscored the need for sustainable practices,
particularly in ecotourism—an industry premised on the delicate balance between human
enjoyment and environmental preservation. At the heart of this balance lies the challenge
of waste management, a critical aspect that necessitates intervention strategies for the
enhancement of ecotourism sustainability.
Tanauan, Nueva Ecija, known for its diverse ecosystems and cultural heritage, has
great potential for sustainable Eco-tourism. However, like many other destinations, it faces
various challenges that hinder the achievement of long-term sustainability goals.
This approach also creates opportunities for income generation through the
provision of community-based tourism services and products. Capacity building programs,
on the other hand, will aim to empower local stakeholders, including residents, tour
operators, and government officials, by providing them with the necessary knowledge and
skills for sustainable tourism management. Training programs on waste management,
environmental conservation, and responsible tourism practices will enable them to actively
participate in safeguarding the natural and cultural assets of Tanauan.

This chapter provided analysis and explanation of the study's collected data. Its findings
were based on the observation from Tanauan Laur, Nueva Ecija. The study presented
figures and tables derived from the data obtained by the researchers to facilitate
comprehension and relevance of the supplied topics.

implementing sustainable
business operations.
The table illustrates recommendations and suggestion based on the observant of Laur,
Tanauan Nueva Ecija addressing the challenges caused by waste disposal. The researcher
suggest in doing waste management program to help residents in Tanauan in recycling
initiative to reduce the environmental impact of improper waste disposal. The second
suggestion is to encourage local businesses to adopt environmentally friendly practices,
such as reducing single-use plastics, and use a reusable alternatives like carry reusable
shopping bag to reduce plastic pollution and to help Tanauan to enhance its ecotourism
sustainability. Also, Organize regular community clean-up events involving residents, to
maintain cleanliness in public spaces. The next recommendation is about turning Organic
matter into something beneficial, it can be for soil enrichment and to help reduce the
amount of waste. Since, burning is one of the common practices in Tanauan, researchers
suggest to conduct tree planting campaign to increase greenery and to improve the air
quality. Another suggestion is to provide a trash cans, they help in preventing the need of
extensive cleanup efforts, saving resources and labor. Lastly, to conduct an educational
campaign to inform the community about the importance of waste disposal practices. By
combining these interventions, Tanauan can create a more beautiful, sustainable, and
resilient community that residents can take pride in, and visitors can appreciate.
