Collaborative Governance Theories, Concept and Approaches

Collaborative governance is a way of working together to address public challenges that

affect many different people and organizations. It is not easy, but it can lead to better solutions
and more trust among the participants. Collaborative governance requires dialogue, trust
building, and commitment to a common goal. It also requires careful design and leadership to
ensure that the process is fair, inclusive, and effective. Collaborative governance can help us
tackle some of the most difficult issues of our time, such as climate change, health care, and
social justice.

The theory of collaborative governance is a way of explaining how different actors can
work together to address public problems that are complex, uncertain, and contested. It assumes
that no single actor has the authority, resources, or expertise to solve these problems alone, and
that collaboration can produce more effective, legitimate, and sustainable outcomes than other
modes of governance.

Some approaches of Collaborative Governance is community-based, public-private

partnership, multi stake holder partnerships, adaptive governance, joint committees and task
force, co-management, e-governance, global governance initiatives. Public-private partnership,
multi stake holder partnership focuses on the joint partnership of public and private in providing
structural, public works or like for the convenience of the community. The government came up
with private or contractor to provide goods and services for the public usage. In adaptive
governance on the other hand refers to the ability of governance systems to adjust and respond to
changing and uncertain conditions in socio-ecological systems. It emphasizes the importance of
learning, experimentation, collaboration and diversity in dealing with complex and dynamic
problems. Joint committees and task force focus on a single problem that a society had, like
when covid strike the Philippines, the interagency task force created to fight and help to stop the
covid. E- governance merged the public or the society and the technology, it helps the society to
interact in the government through technology.

In conclusion, collaborative governance makes it easier for the government or the public
to have a relationship to the community easier. It helps the public to communicate and make
connection to the community easier. It identifies the conditions, processes, and mechanisms that
enable or constrain collaboration, as well as the outcomes and impacts of collaborative efforts.
