SECTION-E

(First two case study questions have three sub- parts (i) , (ii) , (iii) of marks 1 , 1 , 2 respectively. The
third case study question has two sub- parts of 2 marks each.)

Q.36. Case study-1: An organization conducted a bike race under two different categories- Boys and
girls. In all , there were 250 participants. Among all of them finally three from category 1 and two from
category 2 were selected for the final race. Ravi forms two sets B and G with these participants for his
college project.

Let B = { b1 , b2 , b3 } , G = { g1 , g2 } where B , G represent set of boys and girls selected for final race
respectively.

Answer that questions that follow:

(i) Ravi wishes to form all the relations possible from B to G. How many such relations are
possible?
(ii) Let R: B → B be defined by R = { (x , y): x and y are students of same sex }, then is R an
equivalence relation?
(iii) Ravi wants to know among those relations , how many functions can be formed from B to
G?

OR

(iii) Ravi wants to find the number of injective functions from B to G . How many number of
injective functions are possible?

Q.37. Case Study -2 : On the request of villagers , a construction agency designs a tank with the help
of an architect. Tank consists of rectangular base with rectangular sides , open at the top so that its
depth is 2 m and volume is 8 m3 .

Based on the above information answer that questions that follow:

(i) If x and y represent the length and breadth of its rectangular base , then find the relation
between the variables .
(ii) If the construction of tank cost Rs. 70 per sq. metre for the base and Rs. 45 per sq. metre for
sides , then express making cost ‘C’ as a function of x .
(iii) The owner of a construction agency is interested in minimizing the cost C of whole tank , for
this to happen what is the value of x?

OR

(iii) The Pradhan of the village wants to know minimum cost. What is the value of minimum
cost?

Q.38. A pharmaceutical company wants to advertise a new product on T.V. , where the product is
specially designed for women . For that an advertising executive is hired to study television –
viewing habits of married couples during prime time hours. Based on past viewing records he has
determined that during prime time husbands are watching television 70% of the time . It has also
been determined that when the husband is watching television , 30% of the time the wife is also
watching . When the husband is not watching television , 40% of the time the wife is watching
television.

Based on the above information answer that questions that follow:

(i) Find the probability that the husband is not watching television during prime time .
(ii) If the wife is watching television ,find the probability that husband is also watching
television.
