Learning framework

I learned a lot about the value of effective communication in the workplace as a leader or manager
through the MGT600 Influential and Impactful Communication course. Some of my most eye-
opening discoveries were the significance of attentive listening. Active listening includes paying great
attention to what somebody is saying, repeating their words to demonstrate expertise, and
responding meaningfully. This form of listening can aid in the development of confidence and
relationships with colleagues and employees. I also learned how crucial nonverbal communication
is, as it may be responsible for up to 90% of the message we send. It is vital to be aware of our facial
expressions, body language, and pitch of voice when communicating in order to guarantee that our
intended point of view is conveyed.

Another important concept was the importance of interpersonal skills in communicating effectively.
Emotional intelligence includes being aware of how we feel as well as how others feel, managing
how we feel, and using empathy to empathise with and sympathise with others. This ability can aid
in the development of trust and rapport, particularly in challenging or high-stress situations.

I intend to put my study findings into practice in the future by paying particular attention to my
colleagues and modifying how I interact to better match their needs.I feel that this will lead to
stronger teamwork and greater working relationships. Furthermore, rather than being combative, I
intend to approach challenging discussions with an even more receptive and collaborative
perspective.

Finally, the Influential and Impactful Communication course provided me with invaluable insight into
effective communication strategies. I aim to use these notions to my encounters at work in order to
strengthen bonds and get better results.

This class has provided me with a lot of new and eye-opening information on workplace
communication. The value of excellent communication as a leader/manager cannot be overstated.
I've studied a variety of skills and strategies for communicating, dispute resolution, bargaining, and
coping with communication crises.

One of the most important lessons from this training is the value of active listening. It is critical
for a leader/manager to actively listen to employees and allow them to share their issues and
thoughts. Managers can gain insight into their employees' perspectives and experiences just by
listening (Eldridge et al., 2020). This not only fosters a nice work atmosphere, but it also boosts
productivity and creativity. I've also learnt how important it is to provide constructive comments.
Feedback should be detailed, timely, and behavior-focused rather than personality-focused. Active
listening also entails asking questions to ensure that we grasp the material (Bond, 2012). This
strategy promotes growth and development while avoiding disputes and misunderstandings.
Managers may make a conscious effort to set aside distractions and devote their full attention to the
speaker by actively listening to employees. Managers can also concentrate on behaviors by offering
constructive criticism. Managers can also focus on actions rather than personalities by delivering
constructive comments. They can also present specific examples of problematic conduct and offer
ideas for change. Managers might also follow up with employees to confirm that the feedback was
received and understood.

In terms of conflict resolution, I've learnt about several approaches, such as partnering,
compromising, competing, avoiding, and accommodating. Each style has advantages and cons, and
it is critical to select the best style based on the scenario. Furthermore, I have learnt the necessity of
recognizing and resolving disagreements as soon as possible before they grow into big concerns.
Managers can analyze the issue and consider the interests of all parties involved by selecting the
right conflict resolution style. They can also promote open dialogue and endeavor to understand
each party's underlying issues. Managers should also consider hiring a mediator to help with the
dispute resolution process.

Negotiation is another key part of professional communication. Finding a mutually

advantageous solution to an issue is the goal of negotiation. I've studied several negotiating
techniques, such as distributive, integrative, and ethical bargaining. Preparation, active listening, and
creative problem-solving are also crucial qualities for effective negotiating. Managers may prepare
carefully for negotiations by outlining their aims and objectives, investigating the opposing party's
interests, and contemplating viable solutions. They can also actively listen to the opposing party and
look for areas of agreement. Managers can also utilize innovative problem-solving strategies to
develop mutually beneficial solutions.

I've also learnt how to handle communication crises. Communication breakdowns may harm a
company's reputation and bottom line. It is critical to have a crisis communication strategy in place,
establish clear communication routes, and address the situation in a timely and open manner while
dealing with a crisis. Managers may foresee impending crises and build a response plan by
implementing a crisis communication strategy. They can also select a spokesperson to connect with
stakeholders and develop clear communication routes. Managers might also perform frequent crisis
drills to confirm that the strategy is working.

In conclusion, this training has given me useful ideas and practices for efficient professional
communication. In the future, I intend to use what I've learned in this course to strengthen my
communication skills as a leader/manager. I will actively listen to my staff, offer constructive
criticism, select the proper dispute resolution approach, negotiate successfully, and implement a
crisis communication strategy. Finally, excellent communication is critical for developing strong
connections, increasing productivity, and accomplishing corporate objectives.
