7 TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR 24VDC MOTORS

7.1 GENERAL

Electrical equipment enclosures shall be IP55 and suitable for the area classification
and range of site ambient conditions specified in this specification.

Motors shall be suitable for either direction of rotation. The reversal in direction of
rotation may be achieved by interchanging the external connecting leads. The direction
of the motor shall remain unaffected by the direction of rotation by suitable design of
fans.

The Motors expected lifetime shall be at least 30 years.

7.2 MOTORS

All motors shall conform to IEC 60034-1.

Motors shall be Brushless, Permanent Magnet type or Induction three phase motor
(asynchronous motor) internally supplied with an integrated Inverter.

Motors shall be provided with Insulation class “F” and temperature rise limited to class
“B” i.e. a temperature rise of 65 deg. at a design ambient of 55°C.

7.3 MOTORS ENCLOSURE

All motors shall be Ex’d’ ‘e’, IIB, T3 and ATEX certified type.

Motors shall have current certification/ approval by a certifying authority and shall be in
accordance with ATEX 94/9/EC Directive requirements.

The degree of protection for the motor shall have a minimum enclosure protection of
IP55 for the motors, auxiliaries and for the terminal box and bearing housings.
7.4 TYPE OF CONSTRUCTION AND MOUNTING

The type of mounting for electrical motors shall be horizontal, foot mounted, according
to equipment data sheets.

7.5 DECLARATION OF DUTY

The motor shall be designed for duty type S1 (continuous duty) according to IEC 60034-
1, and shall be suitable for the load characteristics and operational duty of the driven
equipment. Motor service factor shall be 1.

7.6 VOLTAGE VARIATIONS DURING OPERATION

The transient limits and steady state limits for voltage variation shall be as follows:

Voltage Variation
Normal
Nominal Voltage ± 10 %
Conditions

Transients
+10% / -20% at motor terminals
conditions

7.7 STARTING CURRENT

The starting current shall not exceed five (5) times the rated current of the motor unless
otherwise specified in the data sheet.

Starting current specified for LV motors shall be inclusive of IEC tolerances.

Where applicable, motors shall be able to restart with full opposite residual voltage,
under full load conditions, and at any voltage between 80% and 100% of the rated
voltage applied at the motor terminals.

7.8 TORQUE SPEED CHARACTERISTICS

DC motor’s starting torque capability and power rating shall exceed the torque-speed
and power requirement of pump including gear & transmission losses, under PSV set
pressure condition at pump maximum flow rate.

However absorber power shall be minimized since the DC power is produced from a
solar energy power system.
The locked rotor torque with 80% rated voltage applied at the motor terminals should be
more than 30% of the rated torque.

7.9 MACHINE HOUSING - GENERAL

Motors with mass greater than 10 kg shall have eye bolts.

Motors shall be provided with external earthing facilities which shall be clearly marked
with the appropriate symbol.

The terminal boxes shall be provided with bolted, stud type terminals suitable for
connection of crimped type lugs, flame proof type cable glands. Ample space shall be
provided in the terminal box for interchanging external loads to reverse to the direction
of rotation of motor. The terminal box shall be suitable to rotate in steps of 90o to allow
cable entry from any direction.

Terminal boxes shall have threaded entries with ISO metric threads to suit compression
type cable glands of size specified in the data sheet.

Rating nameplate made for corrosion resistance metal and fixed to non-removable part
of frame with details as specified in IEC-60034-1 shall be provided.
