Summarization
Ishaan Awasthi, an eight-year-old boy who is filled with joy and imagination, experiences
difficulties in his young life. His parents seemed to be more focused and interested with his
smarter sibling. They simply do not seem to recognize Ishaan’s talent for creativity and art.
Ishaan struggles in school as well because he is unable to read or write. When he writes, his
letters and numbers are occasionally inverted, and the characters he sees keep moving and
dancing. Due to his situation at school and with his family, he suffered depression and
confusion. His parents eventually came to a decision to transfer Ishaan to an alternative
institution, a boarding school, wherein they hope would educate him better and be far from their
home, in which they were unaware that that would make Ishaan more depressed. Ishaan
struggles to cope and adjust to his new environment, and painting was his sole form of
expression that helps him decompress. Suddenly out of nowhere, Ram Shankar Nikumbh, a
new art schoolteacher who challenges constitutional teaching methods, appeared. He lit his
pupils on fire while urging them to be imaginative.
He noticed Ishaan and his concerns. He learned that Ishaan has dyslexia, a neurological
disorder that involves difficulties in learning how to read, write or decipher words, letters,
symbols but does not impede overall intelligence. He fails to follow multiple instructions and has
poor motor skills. This explains why Ishaan keeps on making mistakes. Since he is different
from typical growing children, he was always viewed to be dumb, an idiot, and lazy. Even his
own family, as well as his teachers, classmates, schoolmates and friends, were unaware of
what he was going through. Later then, Nikumbh thought back on his past because he also
experienced the same situation as Ishaan before. So, he chose to assist the child. Nikumbh
observed Ishaan and noted his artistic talent. He saw the youngster’s potential. He visited
Ishaan’s family and explained to them the child’s situation and why he is different from any child.
His parents felt guilty for not seeing their son’s ability. Nikumbh helped Ishaan to know how to
read and write properly. They eventually formed a strong bond together.
In order to show proof to the school that Ishaan is not who they appear to think he is,
Nikumbh approached the school’s principal about hosting a painting event. Ishaan competes
against other artists in the event, including his mentor. When it came time for the judges to
make their choice, one candidate stood out. He and his teacher Nikumbh are tied, but only one
should win. And Ishaan himself qualifies as to that “someone”. He succeeded in winning over
his own teacher. It pleased and delighted him, Nikumbh, and his family. Ishaan’s success helped
him discover who he was, making him a better person in his family, community and school. His
personality developed, his grades rose, and he became a more intelligent and contented child.
This movie tells us that all children are like stars in the night sky. Each one of them is unique,
special, and precious.
