PURPOSE
On some affected vehicles, incorrect software parameters in the PCM may cause the MIL to illuminate
and Diagnostic Trouble Code P2100 (Throttle Actuator Control Motor Circuit), P2138 (Accelerator
Pedal Position Sensor (main and sub) Range/Performance Problem) or P0736 (Reverse Gear
" Incorrect Ratio) to set in the PCM. Automatic transmission Diagnostic Trouble Codes 46 (Reverse
Gear Incorrect Ratio) or P1784 (Reverse Gear Incorrect Ratio) may also be stored in the PCM.
To eliminate this condition, reprogram the PCM as described in this bulletin.

PROCEDURE
CAUTION
BATTERY VOLTAGE (AS MEASURED AT THE BATTERY POSTS WITHOUT ELECTRICAL LOAD)
MUST BE 12.4V OR HIGHER IN ORDER TO REPROGRAM THE PCM.
FILE UNDER:
Group 13 Fuel in the Dealer Service Information Binder (3058)

IMPORTANT
Verify whether the vehicle is K−Line Flash or CAN−Flash. Refer to the “Reprogramming
System Identification” chart on the Service Tech Resources page on the Mitsubishi Dealer
Link. The procedure for PCM reprogramming on CAN−Flash vehicles is different than K−Line Flash
vehicles. Be sure to follow the correct reprogramming instructions for the vehicle being repaired.
1. Check the underside of the hood to verify that there is no label previously installed to indicate that
this TSB reprogramming has already been done.
2. Using the MUT−III, verify that the vehicle’s ECU part number is listed in the table in Step 9. If the
Software P/N is the same as or higher than the Software P/N in the table, the PCM has already
been reprogrammed for this concern. Do not continue with this bulletin procedure. Refer to Group
13 in the appropriate service manual to diagnose the DTC.

b. Click on “Download”.

5. Scan Tool Viewer (STV) ONLY. Verify that your MUT−III is at STV Version 14 or higher, and that it
has the most current version of the reprogramming database:
b. Select “Database File Display”. The database version is displayed in the top right corner of the
screen. Make sure the database version is N06081 or greater.
d. If the database version is less than N06081, you must transfer the new reprogramming data
from the Reflash Update CD 8/06 to the MUT−III hard drive as follows:
6. MEDIC−II and STV Transfer the reprogramming data from the MEDIC−II laptop to the memory card
as follows (Use the port on the left side of the MEDIC−II laptop):
When the memory card data transfer is complete, remove the memory card from the laptop and install it
in the VCI. Then go to Step 7 for CAN−FLASH VEHICLES ONLY or Step 8 FOR K−LINE FLASH
VEHICLES.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT DISCONNECT THE MEDIC−II LAPTOP. DO NOT USE VCI STANDALONE
REPROGRAMMING.
Connect this equipment in the same manner as for normal vehicle diagnosis. When reprogram-
ming a CAN−Flash vehicle, the VCI and MEDIC−II laptop must be connected. DO NOT use VCI
Standalone on CAN−Flash vehicles.
a. In the MUT−III System Select menu, click on the car symbol at the bottom of the screen.

CAUTION
DO NOT DISTURB THE HARNESS CABLES OR
CONNECTIONS. INTERRUPTION DURING THE
PROGRAMMING PROCESS COULD CAUSE THE
PCM TO LOSE DATA OR PREVENT FUTURE PCM
REPROGRAMMING.
a. STV ONLY. If you just transferred the new reprogramming data from the Reflash Update
CD 8/06 to the MUT−III hard drive, now transfer the reprogramming data from the MUT−III
laptop to the memory card. (Use the port on the left side of the MUT−III laptop.) Select ECU
Reprogramming, then Memory Card Transfer. A status bar will display while the data is
loading into the memory card.
When the memory card data transfer is complete, remove the memory card from the laptop
and install it in the VCI.

d. IMPORTANT!
Lancer and Outlander models equipped with ABS: With the ignition key OFF, unplug
the ABS fuse (7.5 amp fuse in the junction box in the passenger compartment). Refer
to the service manual for exact fuse location in the box.
e. Reprogram the PCM, using “Automatic reprogramming” on the VCI. It will take up to 20
minutes to complete the reprogramming.

CAUTION
DO NOT DISTURB THE HARNESS CABLES OR CONNECTIONS. INTERRUPTION DURING THE
PROGRAMMING PROCESS COULD CAUSE THE PCM TO LOSE DATA OR PREVENT FUTURE
PCM REPROGRAMMING.
If the message “ECU at Current Level of VCI” appears, the PCM did not reprogram. Verify that
the ROM ID is the same as the ROM ID listed in the table in Step 9.
S If the ROM ID is the same or higher than the ROM ID in the table, the PCM has already been
reprogrammed for this concern. Do not continue with this reprogramming procedure.
S If it is not, verify that the correct database update is in the MUT−III. Verify the correct database
was transferred to the memory card, and that the memory card is properly installed in the
VCI.
9. After reprogramming, the new ECU part number and software part number will display. Verify that
they are the same as those listed below. Note this information.

10. Turn the ignition switch to OFF. Disconnect the MUT−III from the vehicle. Wait at least 10 seconds,
then start the engine to verify proper operation.
11. Using a ball−point pen, enter the appropriate PCM part number, vendor number, ROM ID, this
TSB number (TSB−06−13−011REV), your dealer code, and the current date on the Engine
Compartment and Control Module Label (part no. MSSF−024G−00).
12. Carefully remove all dirt and oil from a vacant area near the VECI label on the underside of the
hood, and affix the Engine Compartment label.
14. Lancer and Outlander models equipped with ABS: Reconnect the ABS fuse. Confirm no DTC
is set.
15. Test drive the vehicle to confirm proper operation and no MIL illumination.
