For this term paper, we have chosen export of Bicycles. Bicycles are made from a variety of raw
materials that have been carefully chosen to provide durability, strength, and lightweight
construction. Steel, aluminum, titanium, or carbon fiber are the most common materials used in
bicycle frames. Steel frames are well-known for their durability and low cost, whilst aluminum
frames are light and corrosion-resistant. Titanium frames are popular among high-end bicycles
because they provide a good mix of strength and weight. Carbon fiber frames are the lightest and
most strong-to-weight ratio, but they are also the most expensive. Rubber for the tires, plastic for
the pedals and handlebar grips, and various metals for the chain, gears, and other components are
also utilized in the manufacturing of a bicycle. The selection of raw materials for a bicycle is
ultimately determined by the intended use of the bike and the rider's preferences.
Types of Bicycles
Bicycle Industry is comprised of many small and medium-sized businesses that are involved
in bicycle manufacturing and assembly, reflecting the country's history in this field. Meghna
Group of Industries is a major contributor in this industry and has achieved significant
success. Their bicycle brand is known as Veloce.
In Bangladesh, there are several types of bicycles that are exported in other countires:
1. Mountain Bikes: These are designed for off-road terrain, with wide, knobby tires and
suspension systems that absorb shocks. They are popular for trail riding, mountain
biking, and adventure cycling.
There are also many types in mountain Bikes , such as :
Jupiter :
Legion :
Outrage :
V Series :
2. Road Bikes: These are designed for speed and performance on smooth roads, with
lightweight frames and narrow tires. They are commonly used for racing and long-
distance cycling.
3. Hybrid Bikes:
These are a
cross between
road bikes and mountain bikes, designed for a combination of speed and versatility.
They typically have a more upright riding position and wider tires than road bikes,
but are lighter and faster than mountain bikes.
4. Kids Bike : A kids bike is a small-sized bicycle designed specifically for children.
Kids bikes are typically smaller and lighter than adult bikes, making them easier for
children to handle and maneuver. The size of a kids bike is determined by the
diameter of its wheels, which can range from 12 inches for very small children, up to
24 inches for older kids.
Production process
The production process for bicycles can vary depending on the type of bicycle and the
manufacturer, but here is a general overview:
Frame production: The first stage is to create the bicycle frame. This can be
accomplished with a variety of materials, including steel, aluminum, carbon fiber, and
titanium. The material will be cut and shaped by the manufacturer using various tools and
technology, and the parts will be welded or bonded together to make the frame.
Component manufacturing: The bicycle's components, such as the handlebars, wheels,
pedals, and gears, are made independently. Some companies produce these components
in-house, while others outsource them to specialist providers.
Painting: After the frame and components have been completed, the frame is painted in
the desired color or design. Powder coating, which uses an electrostatic charge to attract
paint particles to the frame, can be used to apply the paint.
Assembly: The bicycle is assembled after the frame and components have been painted
and are ready. Attaching the components to the frame entails attaching the wheels to the
frame, handlebars to the stem, and pedals to the cranks. The bike also has a seat, brakes,
and a chain.
Quality control: Before the bicycle is packaged and shipped, it is subjected to stringent
quality control testing to guarantee that all components are in working order and that the
bike is safe to ride.
Packaging and shipping: The final step is to prepare the bicycle for shipment. This may
involve partially disassembling the bike in order to put it into a smaller shipping box. The
bike is subsequently delivered to shops or consumers direct
Place of Production
Bicycle production in Bangladesh is primarily concentrated in the city of Gazipur, which is
located about 20 kilometers north of the capital city, Dhaka. Gazipur is home to several large
bicycle manufacturing companies, including MEGHNA Group of Industry’s VELOCE. Companies
produce a wide range of bicycles, including road bikes, mountain bikes, city bikes, and children's
bikes, and export them to markets around the world. In addition to Gazipur, there are also
smaller bicycle manufacturers located in other parts of the country.
