ON
CONTROL VALVES
The hydrostatic test on control valves is carried out according to ANSI/ASME B16.34.
The fluid used for the scope is water that may contain pitting inhibitors. The viscosity of the water
cannot be greater than the value at T = 50 °C (125 °F). Test shall be made with the valve in the
partially open position.
- ANSI 150÷600: the body and the bonnet are tested with a pressure 1,5 times the max
working pressure (MWP) at 38°C (100°F); after assembling the valve, instead, the
tightness of gaskets of body-bonnet and of the packing is checked at the
same pressure of the plug-seat tightness test .
- ANSI 900÷2500: the body and the bonnet are tested with a pressure 1,5 times the max
working pressure (MWP) at 38°C (100°F); after assembling valve, another test is carried
out at MWP to check the tightness of gaskets of body-bonnet and of the packing.
For the equipment and the details of the test refer to the specifc manufacturing cycle.
In Tab. I MWP and Hydrostatic test values are listed for the main materials used in valves
manufacturing.
