I am familiar, sir.
What are hand tools, sir?
Hand tools are any tool that is powered by hand
rather than a motor. With that, our class will be
divided into five (5) groups. Each group will have
two printed image of tools and a representative will
explain the tools loudly. The other groups will then
try to guess the tool the representative is
describing. The group can answer by raising their
hands and wait for their signal before answering. Is
the instruction clear?

Yes, sir.
We understand, sir.
Let’s begin.

Group 1: Pipe Cutter and Pipe Vise

common tool in construction and house drainage
works. Plumb Bob is used to check the vertical
alignment of any members or pipes.
Plumb Bob is the name of this tool. Thank you,
_____. I believe you know our most common
plumbing tools and equipment. Now, after
identifying our tools, let’s study how we can store
and maintain them properly.
We have here five (5) tips on how store and
maintain our tools and equipment. The first tip is to
Store Tools in the Toolbox. You should have big
toolbox so that you can easily find your tools when
doing a project. When storing the toolbox and your
tools, always keep them in a room-temperature
environment with low humidity. No direct sunlight
should land on the equipment.
Why do we need to be careful about humidity?

Humidity can cause rust to our tools, making them

blunt and broken, sir.

That is correct. Thank you, ______. For the second

tip, Inspect Your Tools Thoroughly. During your
inspections, you’ll be looking to make sure that
there are no outwardly visible issues. This can
include chips and cracks or equipment that is
broken. If there are any problems, you’ll need to fix
or repair them.
Why are regular inspections important for our
tools?
Sir, regular inspections keep you aware of the state
of your equipment. You also don’t have to worry
about your tools falling on you during work.

That is the main reason why we inspect our tools.

Good thinking, ______. Thank you.
For our third tip, we have to Clean Our Equipment
Regularly. Ideally, you should clean your
equipment after every job. This may not be
possible during busier days, but you can still wipe
down your equipment between jobs.
How do we keep our hand and power tools in good
shape?

Hand and power tools will need a different

cleaning regimen as well. These need to be
lubricated regularly to ensure that they work well,
sir.

That is correct, ______. Thank you for that. For our

fourth tip, we have Care for Your Power Tools.
Power tools can be battery powered. In these cases,
you need to be careful about how you store them.
If you don’t need to use a power tool for an
extended period of time, then remove the batteries
until you need the tool.
In power tools, what else do we check before using
them?

You should also keep an eye on the power tools to

see if the cords are fraying. Fraying or exposed
wires can cause electrocution and fire related
accidents.

Precisely! Thank you for that, _____. For our last

tip, you need to Care for your Hand Tools.
Maintaining your hand tools and sharpening the
blades on a regular basis will help them last longer.
Those are the tips we need to remember when
storing our tools and equipment. Doing these tips
will ensure your tools and equipment will be
functional and can be used for longer period of
time.
Before storing your tools, you also need to
remember five (5) methods in identifying
functional to non-functional tools. Can someone
give me the first one?
The first one is Visual Inspection. It refers to the
visual observation of an expert on the appearance
of the tools and equipment.

That is right. Thank you, ______. This is the

physical appearance of the tools. Whether it has
broken handle or chipped blade. What is our
second method?

The second method is Functionality. Vibration or

extra noise from the operation means problems on
parts and accessories started to develop.

That is correct, ______. That means there might be

loose screws or there are debris that went inside
your tool or equipment. For our third method, we
have Performance. What do we mean about this
method?

When there is something wrong with the

performance of either hand tools or equipment,
they need an immediate repair or maintenance, sir.

Precisely! This makes your work easier and safer.

Now, can someone give us the fourth method on
checking which tools are functional and non-
functional?

Sir, the next one is Power Supply. This is

applicable to electrically operated equipment.
Failure to meet standard power supply may cause
harm to the worker.

That is correct. Thank you, _____. When these

tools malfunction, the worker may also be
electrocuted and may cause danger. Now for the
last method, we have Person’s Involved. This
refers to the technical person who has the
knowledge and skills about the technology. This
means yourself and the understanding you have
towards your tools.
In our discussion, I truly see that you understand
our lesson and you study our module in advanced.
Good job, class.

D. ABSTRACTION/GENERALIZATION
Before concluding our lesson, let’s check our
understanding of the lesson we discussed. Can you
give me the six (6) classification of tools in
plumbing? Yes, ______?

There are six (6) classifications namely Measuring,

Holding, Cutting, Driving, Boring, and Electrical
tools, sir.

That is correct. Can someone give me the tools we

discussed today? You’re raising your hand, _____
