Introduction
In this unit my students will learn about dinosaurs.
• We will go on a field trip to the Academy of Natural Science of Drexel University.
• We will read the book Discovering Dinosaurs by Myka-Lynne Sokoloff and Greg Harris
• I will have them a KWL chart
• We will get a class dinosaur (stuffed dinosaur) and name it as a class

Big Ideas
• They will make a table and separate the dinosaurs into plant-eaters and meat-eaters
• They will create a dinosaur and write about and what they would feed it
• They will write five sentences using the word wall
• Find what dinosaurs are still around today
Instructional Activities
• Reading- the books from the set will be in the class library along with other books they
can read on their own
• Listening- there will be audio for the books in the set they can listen to
• Social Studies- we will look at a map and look where dinosaurs were first found
• Speaking- They will present the dinosaur that they created, and they will also present the
dinosaur charts
• Science- we will use a dinosaur fossil kit and find fossils by digging
• Writing- they will use the word wall and create sentences
• Music- There is a playlist on apple music about dinosaurs I will play for them
• Physical Education- We will learn how to walk like a dinosaur
• Art- The dinosaur they created will be painted or colored and hung around the room
• Math- We will look up how long different dinosaurs are and figure out which is the
biggest and the shortest
Assessment
• They will fill out the “L” on the KWL chart
• They will label pictures of dinosaurs
• They will write down their favorite and most interesting thing they learned in the unit
Culminating Projects
• They will “adopt” a dinosaur and write a story on it
• They will take pictures of each of the kids and have them color a dinosaur and attach
their face on the dinosaur and put them all around the room
