plants are available in a wide array
of leaf colors, from green, red, and
purple to yellow and white. With
proper care, the plant can provide
a dramatic accent. It is also known
as the Ti tree or Hawaiian Ti tree.
Cordyline needs a warm, draft-free location, rich, well-
drained high-quality potting mix with a pH of 6 to 6.5, and
weekly feeding. Keep it continually moist except in winter.

Dieffenbachia (Dieffenbachia
seguine)

Dieffenbachia is ubiquitous as
a houseplant, so it is easy to
forget it is also a true
tropical foliage plant. To
grow this popular plant with
its large green and white
leaves, use a fast-draining potting mix and fertilize with a
20-20-20 mix. Locate it in a warm (over 60 degrees
Fahrenheit) and draft-free location. Water twice a week,
and reduce water in the winter.

For indoor use, there are
climbing varieties and the

types of philodendrons.

the climbing varieties with the
convenience of the self-heading varieties. It is easier than
ever to grow them. Water and mist frequently in summer;
reduce water in winter.

Aglaonema or Chinese
Evergreen, is also
considered as the as Lucky
Plant as per Feng Shui and
considered a bringer of
fortune. Its longevity, ease of growth and striking
appearance are thought beneficial to the wellbeing and
financial success of the residents who grow it.

• Difficulty: none because Aglaonema 'Siam Aurora' is
relatively easy to care for.
Variegated Bishop's Weed
Groundcovers
The green and white
foliage makes a splash in
the garden with this fast-
growing perennial. White
flowers about a foot tall
appear in summer. This
plant can be invasive, so
be very careful to plant
it somewhere it can’t get out of control, such as between
the sidewalk and the house. Or snip off the flowers to
prevent spreading. Bishop’s weed is one of the few plants
that grows equally well in sun or shade.

‘Everglow’ from the
EverColor series is a C.
morrowii cultivar with
orange and green striped
foliage and spiky brown
seed heads. It’s another
wildly popular cultivar
thanks to its bold look. Perfect for adding glowing color
to shady areas, it grows in Zones 5 to 10 and tops out at
about 18 inches tall and wide.

Feather Falls
Sedges
With its bright, striped foliage,
it’s easy to fall in love with
‘Feather Falls.’ This hybrid
features creamy white and
green stripes on an 18-inch-
tall plant. In spring, it
produces feathery flower
stems. The gracefully arching leaves look like a tiny white
and green waterfall in the garden, and this cultivar can
spread up to three feet, with a clumping growth habit. It’s
also particularly suited to containers.

Croton
Tropical
Crotons, which naturally occur
in the globe's Western Pacific,
fare best in similar climates.
"Here in Houston and Austin, as
soon as we hit 31 degrees, they're
going to be toast," Alexander
shares. He also notes that in the
American South, crotons are
displayed in the fall because of their seasonal colors.
"They're used in pots, around pumpkins, in pine straw, and
all sorts of things to make your Halloween and fall
vignette," he says.
