Barriers to Health education

A health educator is a medical professional who teaches individuals and groups about
strategies they can use to improve their health. To effectively complete their tasks and duties,
health educators develop and use a wide variety of skills and abilities, as A media-based
strategy to encourage people to lead healthy lifestyles, assist them in changing their behavior to
protect their health, work tirelessly to improve both individual and societal health, and attempt to
prevent or lessen the occurrence of diseases by influencing people's beliefs, attitudes, and behavior
both privately and publicly. Providing the individual with knowledge and experiences with the goal of
influencing his knowledge, tendencies, and behavior in terms of his health and the health of the
community in which he lives is a strategy used to increase health awareness. The actions intended at
enhancing health knowledge, creating trends, and promoting healthy behaviors can all be grouped
under the umbrella term of health education (JeffreyK, 1998). The health educator he has the
knowledge with the ability to communicate it and be convinced (Tappe, 2001). A health
educator A person who is trained professionally trained to carry out many duties and has
special training in the field of health education and its strategies and methods that help in
finding policies, interventions and health systems that support the health of people(Parker,
2020). Also Health educators "they are those who care about human health, in an integrated
manner, and treat his physical, psychological, spiritual, mental, social and behavioral health,"
and one of the most important features of their work is that they "can practice that work at
any time and place, without the need for special equipment or tools (Sherwood, 2017). One of
the tasks of the health educator is to "promote and contribute to gaining social and political
support for health issues, organizing health awareness campaigns and programs, contributing
to their activation and success in all fields of health education, preventive medicine,
educating health patients according to their estimated needs, individually or collectively,
preparing, testing, using and evaluating educational means and educational materials, and
implementing and implementing programs in innovative ways(Rowthorn, 2015) .

Communication:
Communication skills include the way in which professionals speak to one another to
convey messages. This skill entails more than simply talking to someone else, as it often also
requires active listening, displaying attentive nonverbal cues and using clear, concise
language, Health educators communicate daily with members of the public to teach them
about healthy habits and strategies they can use to improve their well-being. They may talk to
individuals about their health or communicate with large groups while giving a presentation,
both of which require communication skills to perform effectively.

Problem-solving:
This is the ability to identify an issue and suggest effective solutions to fix it. This skill
often requires creativity, analysis and reasoning to employ successfully. One situation in
which health educators use problem-solving skills is when they work with individuals to
create wellness plans for their specific health conditions, They evaluate these issues and use
critical thinking skills to discover possible solutions. When speaking to a larger group, they
may create pamphlets that provide tips the audience can follow to decrease their chances of
developing certain diseases.

Time management:
Health educators employ time management skills often, as they typically have many
tasks to complete daily, such as conducting educational programs, training new staff
members and communicating with groups of people, They may prioritize how and when they
complete particular duties to ensure they complete their tasks efficiently.

Teamwork:
Teamwork refers to working effectively with other people. While health educators may
complete a few of their tasks individually, they often work in group settings, Health educators
collaborate with community members to increase health and wellness and work with
colleagues to create or present materials jointly. They may also collaborate with other health
professionals, such as doctors or nurses, to develop health programs for patients.

Written communication:
These characteristics allow professionals to clearly express ideas through written
communication. Health educators create a variety of written material, such as educational
programs, reports, wellness plans and presentations. Many of these documents contain
essential information, which is why health educators often develop high-quality writing
skills.

Cultural competency:
This skill entails learning about cultures other than your own. Since health educators
teach diverse groups of people, they often encounter a variety of cultures with separate
practices and beliefs, so it's often important for health educators to remain respectful of all
cultures they encounter.

Knowledge of Health Sciences:


Health science involves the research, study and knowledge of health as well as applying
that knowledge to help people improve their health and function better, health educators must
have a thorough understanding of how health science works so they can relay it successfully
to the public, While relaying pertinent health information to a group of people.

Understanding of Health Issues and Ability to Access Healthcare:


The health educator meets with a variety of people throughout the community, Some
may be different cultures while others may be socially disadvantaged populations. health
educators travel to all these different populations, and they should be knowledgeable of each
of the populations. They must understand health issues that are prevalent in certain areas and
why they’re prevalent in those areas, They must also understand that one population may not
have the same ability to access healthcare as another. To be successful with every population,
the health educator must have a solid understanding of each one as well as their needs and
understanding of good healthcare.

In conclusion, these are some of the characteristics of an effective health educator,


which have a major role in the personality of the health educator and his success in improving
the health of individuals and society and changing some of their bad habits that they have and
understanding of the importance of health, and the role of the health educator and his skills
and his knowledge in health improvement and provide awareness of Health for individuals
and society.
