 Run through holiday music.
o With limited help
o Combined with the other 6th grade general music class
RATIONALE
According to Rote Song Procedure, students develop their singing voice and creative movement
in preparation for reading notation. This process will help students learn a song quicker and
allow them to explore their voice and core elements of music.

In this lesson I will be using rote song procedure to teach the warmup “I Love the Flowers.”
This serves the purpose of helping the students get more comfortable in their voice and singing.
The song also covers a wide vocal range, which will allow students to explore the range and
ability of their voices. If not in this lesson, the next lesson with this song, we will try and sing it
in a round, giving students a chance to practice singing independent parts.

We will then move to rehearsing on holiday music. The two general music classes will
combine, and we will practice singing our independent parts along with the other class. We will
try with music first, then have the students try singing the music without.

PRE/POST ASSESSMENT or EVALUATION
I think this warmup will be a nice break from the holiday music. I hope it will be a nice break
and regain their interest in the music they will be singing for the concert in the upcoming
weeks.
REFLECT
The students did great! I was very happy with how this class went. The students learned the
warmup quickly and responded well to it. A few of the students kept asking me to sing it to the
other general music class, or to sing it at the end of class. I had to promise that we would sing it
when they came back to class the next week. This excitement carried into our rehearsal for the
rest of class. I had never heard those students sing as well as they did on this day.
