32. Mumbai Sweets Potato Crackers recently launched a campaign. If you return 4 empty packets

1. Before the paperback copies were issued, 36,000 hardback copies were sold. So, a total of
(441,000 – 36,000) or 405,000 copies were sold (hardback + paperback) after the paperback
copies were issued.
Let, the number of hardback copies sold later be x.
So, the number of paperback copies is 9x.
According to the question,
9x + x = 405,000
Or, 10x = 405,000
Or, x = 40,500
So, the total number of paperback copies sold is 9x = 9 X 40,500 = 364,500.
2. Given that, one-third the difference is 27. So, the total difference is 81.
Let, the smaller number be x.
Then, according to the question,
(81 + x) + 6x = 200
Or, 81 + x + 6x = 200
Or, 81 + 7x = 200
Or, 7x = 119
So, x = 17
Now, let us consider that after y months, Raiyan would no longer be able to save any money
every month from his salary.
Then, according to question,
2
50,000 + 2000y = X 50,000 + 3500y
5
Or, 1500y = 30,000
So, y = 20
7. If Maksud uses all his money to buy bananas and apples, he can buy 9 apples and 1 banana
or 5 apples and 7 bananas or 7 apples and 4 bananas which will cost him TK 81.
Since, the question asks for the maximum number of apples, the correct answer is option (a).
8. Here,
(cost of 8 shirts and 7 pants) – (cost of 4 shirts and 3 pants)
= cost of 4 shirts and 4 pants
= Tk. 3965 – Tk. 1825
= Tk. 2140
Again,
(cost of 4 shirts, 4 pants and 1 shoe) – (cost of 4shirts and 4 pants)
= cost of 1 shoe
= Tk. 2690 – Tk. 2140
= Tk. 550
9. She goes to the store with Tk. 950. Each old book costs Tk. 25. So she can buy 950/25 = 38
books. Since, she wants to keep the maximum number of books in her personal library, she
should not return any old book. Because, she would get only one book upon returning 4. So
the answer is 4.
11. If he buys 1 green pen and 2 red pens, then it costs him a total of TK. 35. At this rate he can
buy maximum numbers of red and green pens for Tk. 175 (multiple of 35 less than 205). So
he can buy 30/5 = 6 black pens with the remaining money.
12. If a number is divided by another number, and again divided by the factors of the second
number, in every case the difference between the divisor and the remainder shall remain
same.
In this case, the factors of 105 are 3, 5 and 7. And the remainders when the large number is
divided by 3, 5 and 7 are 1, 3 and 5 respectively. So, the difference in each case is 2.
Hence, when the larger number will be divided by 105, the difference between 105 and the
remainder will also be 2.
So, the remainder will be (105 – 2) = 103
13. The number of members in the club will be maximum if each member contributes the
minimum amount possible.
If each member contributes TK. 9
Then the number of members will be 230/9 = 25.55
But the number of people has to be an integer.
So, the number of members in the club is 25.
17. He earns $ 8 x 1.5 = $ 12 per hour on Saturdays and Sundays. He works a total of 22 hours on
Saturdays and Sundays. And a he works a total of 38 hours on the other days of the week.
So, his earning is = (22 x 12) + (38 x 8) = $ 568.
19. Let the price of one apple be x and the price of one orange is y.
According to the question,
80x = 120y
Or, x = 1.5y
The price total price of 60 apples and 75 oranges is Tk. 132
Therefore,
60x + 75y = 1320
Or, 90y + 75y = 1320
Or, 165y = 1320
Or, y=8
21. The sum of five odd number is always an odd number. So the answer is none of these.
22. Dividing the dividend by the divisor, we get 36 as remainder. However if the dividend is
doubled, the remainder is supposed be 72. Now, if the divisor was larger than 72, then the
remainder would have still been 72. As the remainder changes, it indicates that the remainder
was greater than the divisor. And the new remainder is the difference between the old
remainder doubled and the divisor.
So the divisor is = 72 – 17 = 55.
23. Let, the quotient be q after dividing the number by 8. Since, the remainder is 3 when divided
by 8, the can be considered to be (8q + 3). Squaring the number we get,
(8q + 3)2
= 64q2 + 48q + 9
= 64q2 + 48q + 8 + 1
= 8 (8q2 + 6q + 1) + 1
In the expression, the part 8 (8q2 + 6q + 1) is divisible by 8. So, the remainder is 1 when divided
by 8 as it is the remaining part not divisible by 8.
24. The product of two integers is 216. Therefore, the product of their LCM and HCF is 216. If the
HCF is x, the LCM is 6x.
According to the question,
6𝑥 2 = 216
Or, 𝑥 2 = 36
Or, x=6
So, the HCF is 6.
28. Fractions that have a value between 0 and 1 are all proper fractions. When they are multiplied
together, the denominator keeps increasing which keeps reducing the value.
For example, (1/5 x 1/4) = 1/20
Here, we see after two proper fractions are multiplied, the value of the product is less than
either of the original fractions.
33. Here, the required sum is (-346 + -345 + ………… + 345 + 346 + 347 + 348)
Now, the summation of each number from -346 to 346 is 0.
So, the required summation is (347 + 348) = 695.
34. Here, x and y are both positive integers and 1/x + 1/y = 1/6
So, maximum possible value of 1/x = 1/7
And, the minimum possible value of 1/x = (1/6 – 1/7) = 1/42
So, the maximum possible value of x is 42 and the minimum value is 7
The required difference is (42 – 7) = 35
35. Here, a = 3b
So, b = a/3
Now, b + 3 = (a/3) + 3
